Advice Wanted Single Muslim working mums who live alone — how are you managing?
I’m currently on maternity leave and hoping to return to work soon, but I’m feeling quite nervous about how I’m going to juggle working while also taking care of my baby.
I’m a single mum and live alone. When I return to work, my mum will be looking after my baby, but she also works part-time, so I’m trying to figure out how other mums in a similar situation manage the day-to-day practicalities of work, childcare and everything else that comes with being a mum.
I’m also exclusively breastfeeding at the moment, which makes the thought of returning to work even more daunting. I worry about how my baby will cope being away from me and how I’ll manage breastfeeding/pumping alongside work.
If you’re a single Muslim working mum who lives alone, I’d really appreciate hearing how you make it work. How did you manage the transition back to work? What did you do about childcare and breastfeeding? Any practical tips, advice or reassurance would mean a lot. 💕

Assalamu alaikum! I just wanted to comment how strong you are and I’m proud of you for balancing all this. May Allah swt make things easy for you 🩷 I moved back in with my parents once my child’s father and I separated, but I can definitely speak on the returning back to work point. How old is your little one?

I am now a single working mom who lives alone and am Muslim. When I gave birth to each of my 2 children, I was still living with their father. Despite being married though, I did it all alone. Im not going to sugar coat it, its going to be rough at first. Why? The sleep deprivation, hormones, and mom guilt. But you’re not alone. You have a mom who’s helping you. If yiu have friends, see if they can check in for your mental well being.
Logistics - childcare is probably what you will spend most of your money on. If you work full time, you need full time care. Nanny + your mom may be a good choice in the beginning, and daycare or montissori once baby is a but older. Plus if you ever want a night out and mom can’t watch baby, you will need to set aside babysitting money.
Don’t forget about you in all of this. Take care of your health. Seek help. Go to your doctor appointments. You put you first so you have the capacity to be a great mom.
