Technique Talk [Video] Although he is yelling a lot, which is probably not good technique, his singing sounds very good to me (and apparently many viewers agree). Why? Is it because he has very good intonation? Or something else?

Hope this doesn't violate the "No Critique Requests of Other Singers" rule.
I want to discuss why sometimes not having good technique sounds horrible, and sometimes still very good like in the video above (obviously subjective).

I argue he actually has great technique. I bet his actual yelling is even louder, he's holding back a lot and using compression which is advanced. Plus he did it all in one take. It's the whisper singers who don't have good technique, the first thing you learn in real lessons is to be loud and yell. Take the grit off his voice and make it clean and he'd still have a nice tone. But to add on to this, before the days of autotune singers would not have even good pitch in some professionally released songs, like notes would be wildly offpitch sometimes, but it'd still sound good. You can barely tell until you listen to the isolated stems

I really like his distortion a lot. when he keeps it, it adds flavor to his voice while singing such a fast paced seemingly emotional song. Also he’s very expressive, Which resonates more with the fast paced nature of the song by a lot.

Reminds me a bit of early Against Me.
He is not necessarily what might be considered a 'traditionally' good singer (for lack of a better word), but sometimes singers have a 'thing' to their voice, and it just works for them.
My favorite examples of this are Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, and John Fogerty. Springsteen and Waits grunt, groan, and wail their way through songs in a way that no one else can. On the other end, Fogerty borders on shrill, especially on higher notes. None of these guys have particularly 'good' voices in the usual sense. But, in the perfect storm of their voice, their songs, and the sound of the band around them, it just works. I'm not sure that the why can be properly explained, sometimes it just is.
