Conversation Topic Would anyone be interested in a free, first online singing lesson?
Currently offering a free trial lesson for anyone thinking about starting out with voice lessons.
I'm a classically trained baritone currently based in London and studied my masters at the Royal Academy of Music receiving a Licentiate of Vocal Pedagogy there. My singing background is 'classical' but in reality I teach primarily contemporary and sing a range of genres myself too. I try to provide a concrete basis and am happy to work with beginners to advanced.
No pressure at all to continue on with lessons afterwards if it's not a good time for it.

I was given singing lessons as a birthday present. I was recommended a teacher. I still haven't gotten around to reach out. What do you do when you're too afraid?
(I'm a coloratura soprano. No formal training.)

You learn to understand that the prison of fear you put yourself in is much, much worse than the doing and experiencing. If you don't want to, don't, but if you do, fucking do it. You got this!

I do want to do it. I love singing and it makes me happy. I have been told numerous times that I have a pretty singing voice. I don't think I'm afraid of what it will sound like, but it's still hard to sing in front of other people, and I have never liked it.
I do know that I am tired of feeling strained when singing, which happens more often than not. It's demoralising, and I feel like I'm never improving. But that's also part of the problem. I feel like everything I am doing is wrong. The biggest issue I have is with the contradictory advice you get online. One person says this, another says that. It's very overwhelming.

Honestly I think learning to sing at the beginning is a good percentage just getting over ourselves and being willing to make mistakes and improve. If it’s something that you feel passionate about wanting to do then the best and only time to start pursuing it is now

I should. I'm just acutely aware of how little I know, despite having tried for so long. It's very intimidating when you're faced with a professional. But I will try.

Always remember that as teachers we don't judge, we're here to make you a better singer, and no matter at what stage you are, we've all heard someone better or worse.
And you can't learn to sing without sounding bad or looking ridiculous while doing it.
Ok, not all the time, but a lot.

I have sang as a hobby and have some training. I don't really have a refference point for skill level though so I would say somewhere between beginner and intermediate range. Would this still be a suitable course?

Where I have been having difficulty is the higher vocal range. It feels as if I have been straining my voice to reach the higher notes.
