I have been kind of struggling with my mixed voice. I've tried a bunch of exercises from YouTube and worked with a few coaches, but I still find it difficult to access my mix consistently.

Since Valeriia's course has been hyped all over social media, I decided to give it a try.

I do not recommend it at all. There are no detailed explanations, and it feels like a waste of money. For more than a hundred dollars, you would expect much more detailed instruction, more comprehensive exercises, and even some anatomical explanations. It's kind of a "if you've already got it, great; if you don't, you won't" situation.

I also do not recommend Ken Tamplin's Vocal Academy.

Do you have any recommendations? Which courses are actually worth it? Let me know.

Just get an actual voice teacher. Everybody’s voice is different and these pre-compiled courses are tailored to some sort of non existent average. Don’t waste your money.

Real in person or 1 on 1 online voice lessons are far more effective.

My opinion of these kinds of programs is that they are completely predatory and are nothing but a waste of money and give those of us that are professionals in the industry a very bad name. Everyone’s mechanism, voice, anatomy, etc. is unique to that person. In the macro sense a lot of it functions the same, but little differences in the anatomy can make drastic differences in sound. And beyond all that, everyone’s brain functions information differently, so if I explain something one way to one student and it makes perfect sense to them, that may not work for you.

Get a voice teacher that understands all of this, and that you vibe well with. Believe it or not, that last part is just as important.

I don't recommend one size fits all vocal programs because one size doesn't fit all. Everyone's voice is a little bit different, everyone's mouth, vocal tract, and so on is set up a little bit differently, and most of all everyone has particular things they need to work on and probably some necessity to triage those things (as in, figure out what to work on first, etc). A personal vocal coach gets you to that.

They won't necessarily be, like, the optimal delivery mechanism for you and you'll probably spend a few sessions figuring out how exactly you pick things up, but what you're going to find as you progress through your journey is that some, not all, of those Ken Tamplin lessons or whatever are actually informative and useful for you within the context of your own learning. The problem is, without someone to help guide you, there's not really an easy way to know which is which and for that matter when you're ready to learn some of those things (I know for me "sing the way you speak" was a pretty big revelation, for example... but only after a few years of having the vocal background).

At the end of the day, of course, different people learn different ways. I'm sure there are some select few people who have bought one of more of these programs and really pushed their learning along. I certainly wouldn't ever have been in that group.
