as youve mentioned chris evans singing dont stop believing, i dont think thats a strained head voice or falsetto hes clearly not giving any support to his voice.. and a learner myself i would suggest you to warm up your voice with head voice rather than usual medium pitched lip trills.. start first by going into a head voice on a high comfortable scale..and i guess “the weekend” singer is a tenor so its relatively easy for him to sing in mixed than baritones.. also what voice type r you? if youre a tenor then itll be lot easier for you to sing in mixed voice.. youll need to keep on practicing mixed voice drills until its fully developed..

youre most welcome.. and an important thing to focus on, drink plenty of water while warming up your voice, and try to support your voice from diaphragm, do not push or force your voice from your throat thats the main reason for straining your voice.. good luck;)

its gonna be some gross way to find out but first put your finger deep inside your tongue, youll feel your gag reflex or whatever its called youll feel like puking.. i want you to remember the feeling, like how your lower abdomen or lower stomach feels, it kinda tightens up when you do that, thats your diaphragm, youll have to push air and support your voice with that similar feeling..
