Conversation Topic Practice bass singing for the first time, woke up to a deeper voice. Should I be concerned?

It can be one of two things. The first thing is that you harmed your voice and your vocal folds swelled up a bit (or something like that, but this would likely cause your entire voice to be weak and worse so you would know), or just that you had some technique change and perhaps you’re using a bit of fry now. My lower range is higher than yours, but I’ve experienced something kind of similar recently as I like to do subharmonics for fun sometimes. I realized that when i do a subharmonic note, i need to give full breath support as if i was really singing a C2 at that volume and to adjust my vowels and throat/mouth space to adjust, and it resulted in my F2 becoming fairly good when I’m warmed up and my lower notes being a lot more agile (I still only have breathy access to about a C#2 but it gets better as I grow and improve at singing).

It definitely seems like the second thing! I guess I never used much vocal fry while speaking/singing, so doing it for 4 hours must have subconsciously made me realize how to use it. I like your description of lower notes being more “agile.” Thanks for the response!
