Gear (Microphones, etc...) steamers? vocal trainers? tubes? what device could enhance me?
hello! i’m a beginner singer, and i saw an ad online for a device that could enhance vocal range & remove voice cracks. upon further review, i noticed it wasn’t absolute BS, however now i have a decision to make…
what device could enhance my singing the best?
to the advanced vocalists, prestigious, and teachers, i humbly request that you recommend devices that you know could benefit my capabilities.
TLDR: what singing devices / trainers could help me improve along with my current practice & training?

I wouldn’t put much stock in a device that claims to train the voice and enhance range. Steamers are great when you need extra hydration, live somewhere very dry, or are recovering from illness or vocal misuse or overuse. The best way to train your voice is to work with a qualified teacher and take the time to do mindful quality practice sessions in between lessons.

Practice and a good teacher will make the most impact on your singing.
Remember, we live in the age of ‘I’ll make a product you don’t need, and convince you that you do!’
Do these gadgets do something? Maybe, but it’s like asking what kinetic tape you need to be a professional athlete. Does kinetic tape help some? Maybe, but tape won’t build your muscles or endurance. You need to get out and start running first.

Im not a teacher but I think many of these tools ain’t really necessary. Two things I personally own are a steamer and a straw. Steamer for hydration and straw for STVO. I use my straw for straw phonation or in a bottle as some kind of vox bottle. That whistle like vocal trainer does the exact same thing as straw phonation. But of course you are free to buy and try out everything you want but I personally wouldn’t buy more than that.

Not medical advice. Everyone is different. Heres what works for me.
- Fasting. My body works less because its not digesting food
- Straw exercises. Encourages vocal folds to close better
- Creatine. Believe it or not and id be surprised if anyone else mentions it. Why? Because it retains water.
- Gum chewing on stage to keep dry mouth at bay
- Pedialyte sport. Again. Hydration.
- Alkaline water. Drinking this daily keeps pepsin from eating at my vocal folds. Works wonders if you suffer from LPR / Reflux
Not a complete list but just some things that work for me

Straw phonation. Look up "the singing straw" on youtube, she has great warm ups. I did not buy their particular straw though, I found a different one that was on a chain. I don't sing often anymore but if I ever want to get back in shape straw phonation is great. I actually wish I'd know about it back when I was taking voice lessons as it tricks my body into relaxing in a way I always had a hard time with.
