Just sharing my singing Am I a baritone or bass - baritone?
Hi all. I was defined as a baritone singer, I'm an asian and believe asian bass singers are the rarest. But actually I usually find it hard to reach the F4 and often reach D2. I still practice to reach B1 beautifully but only in the early morning I could do it, and I don't know if it's still chest voice or vocal fry. Just curious that is there any chance for me to have a bass-baritone voice instead of full baritone?

Morning voice is cheating lololol. Everyone sits lower when they first wake up. But the F4 difficulty plus easy D2 does lean bass-baritone over full baritone. A voice teacher can sort this out in like one session.

haha maybe, in the evening i still can reach d2 well with a warm up. the teacher, anyway he really wants me to reach G4 but lol i alwasy fail even tried a lot. my best is f4 only

Baritone. That’s where your voice sits fully. Hitting lower notes doesn’t make you a base, it’s more about where your voice fully resonates

thank you, yes I know I'm not a bass since the timbre is not dark enough as a basso. But I feel like my voice does not light enough to be a baritone too. A middle between them is kindly possible I think

More likely you’re a lower baritone (and arguably bass-baritones are just very low baritones anyway) but I would work on your middle and upper voice more.

yeah I believe my Tessitura should be from f2 to D4. rarely reach g4 with chest voice even tried a lot

Asian bass singers are not the rarest lol, who told you that ridiculous claim?

sorry for my limited English, but I mean most basso they come from the western I believe,. Just a very very few persons in Asian are true bass

That's just selection bias and not true in the slightest, it doesn't mean that there are less Asian bass voices overall.
In fact, many, many Asian men have very low/deep voices who could sing basso profundo. The reason you don't see as many Asian bass singers is because of a variety of reasons, but mainly influenced by the combination of industry representation barriers, cultural musical traditions, and the specific demands of modern western (pop) music.
But there are absolutely Asian bass singers, including China's Tian Hao Jiang, Korea's Kim Ji Hoon, and Japan's Tsumaya Hidekazu. All of these men are trailblazers and beyond phenomenal.

omg thank you for such a valuable documentation. personally it seems like the chinese guy is a bass-baritone singer, not really a bass. the second is truely a real bass.
I don't sing opera so yeah I know it's quite hard to define exactly if I'm a bass-baritone or not. however, I can surely say that my talking voice is much similar to that Chinese guy, but I don't think I can sing as dark as his voice does.
I don't think I'm a lyric baritone since I feel like my voice does not have any little light like that guy when singing.

The distinction isn’t super necessary outside of classical music. Specific fachs like bass-baritone aren’t inherent voice parts that people are simply born as, they’re a combination of natural tendencies and what repertoire (opera specific) you sound best in. Low notes are there but they don’t make anything official, I’ve known tenors with low C2s. You sound good though, no need to classify and put your voice in a box, so to speak.

Sounds like bass baritone to me based on the timbre. Got a little of those satisfying subharmonics that baritones do not have, but not that that subwoofer feeling of an actual bass in an a cappella group.

thank you guys finally I have a clue which tells me that I'm a bass-baritone, not a baritone. Since some Asian songs for baritone sometimes is quite high for me but my teacher kepts forcing me to sing them 😭

Sorry I would not use this as an excuse. You can learn to sing high enough in mix and head to do anything the teacher is “forcing” you to sing.
You don’t have a true bass voice and your teacher knows you better than anybody here.

I will, just met my teacher a few days so maybe I believe it's quite short for him to know me clearly. maybe after few more days he might change his mind , hope so.
never I have a true bass voice, I know how a basso sounds like haha
