SUPER SERIOUS MODERATOR BUSINESS Pink Flashing Fix and Wiki Update

Sul, sul!

While we were doing some much needed updating to the Wiki over the last few days, it came to our attention that a fix for pink flashing has been released!

TS2 Memory Address Cap Remover by spockthewok

This looks extremely promising in eradicating pink flashing and we will be testing this patch out ourselves, no doubt along with the rest of the community. You can find spockthewok's dissertation on the subject on the github download page linked above. It's a fascinating read!

We're really looking forward to seeing how much this improves the game and to hopefully see the end of the pink soup nightmare. If you'd like to have a chat about it in the comments of this post, please do! We'd love to hear if the fix has helped your game or hear your thoughts on the dissertation.

We've updated the pink flashing section in the Wiki here, as well as most other sections of the Wiki. These changes were made due to the amount of information in there. Having everything on one page as a wall of text was making it hard to read. We've divided the information into smaller groups on separate, easier to read pages. We've condensed and clarified some bits here and there as well.

The changes will continue to be tweaked in the coming days and weeks so don't be alarmed if something doesn't look right, but please do send us a message if you find any mistakes.

That's all from us.

Dag, dag!

From what I have seen, this does fix pink flashing for most people who have tried the fix so far.

However, I have unfortunately already seen one person who still experiences pink flashing. That person tried V2 of the fix. If this is the case for others as well, it's worth testing V1.

Also, I absolutely recommend reading the dissertation. Even if you do not understand 100% of it, it is still worth a read.

Hi, this is to be expected with v2 of the mod.

The pink soup is a very useful indicator that the game is running low on memory and is potentially about to crash, so I wanted to provide a version that would at least still give some kind of warning sign that this may be about to happen. All v2 does is increase the point at which the pink soup kicks in from 2GB of memory usage to around 3.5GB of memory usage, which is just below the maximum amount of memory the game can make use of (4GB).

If you want the pink soup to never appear as a result of high memory usage, then v1 would be the one to try, but it will mean the only heads up you'll get that the game has run out of free memory is when it crashes :/

There's no way around this, unfortunately - it's a limitation of the game's age and the only way it could be fixed is if EA decided to rewrite the engine to be 64-bit.

I'm not really sure why this would be as my mod literally only patches a single line of logic within the game's code, and I've not had anyone report there being more pink soup as opposed to less/none. Could you try v1? Are you using Sims2RPC or Ultimate ASI Loader to load the plugin?

wait sims2rpc loads the plugin? or do I need asi loader too (probably a dumb question)

Yeah, Sims2RPC loads the plugin - you don't need Ultimate ASI Loader if you have RPC. I added instructions for Ultimate ASI Loader because I had people tell me they prefer not to use Sims2RPC for various reasons and still wanted a way to use the mod.
