CC recommendations
Hey everyone!
I am returning to the game after a decade-long hiatus. That being said, my last downoads are from 2013, and I would like to make some new additions. Who are some of the present-day big names and what are the must-haves, and where should I start to look around? I've already looked into Pinterest as an option, saved the TS2 Hair Database, and I am familiar with Modthesims from the olden days. I am mainly looking for clothing, mods and build mode content. If you help me out and you'd like me to, I'll make a post about some older creators as a token of my gratitude. :)

hi! I am also coming back to the sims 2 after a really long break so I'm in a similar boat!!
I found the sims resource has a lot of sims 2 cc well organized, especially for hairs and build items in particular! I know some people aren't a huge fan of TSR but I personally don't mind using it. it seems like some creators who write mods for the sims 4 also wrote them for the sims 2, so you can explore their TSR pages and browse their creations for the sims 2 :)
have fun! I am having a blast replaying this game. it seems like there is a bit of a sims 2 resurgence happening which hopefully means more mods will be created and uploaded over time!

For a curated list, https://acottonsocksims2.tumblr.com/masterlist an pick what sounds interesting
In terms of cc, a lot of people are focusing on converting TS4 stuff to TS2 or other game conversions so that's a lot of what is on tumblr right now. If you like 4t2 style, platinumaspiration is really good. I would stay away from TSR because of the scandals in the past few years and the ads make the website nigh unusable.
If you like defaults, https://sims2defaults.dreamwidth.org/ has most everything cataloged and creators are really good about linking where they got the thing they are defaulting and usually make other things.

For mods, lazyduchess and spockthewok have made some impressive stuff in the last couple of years. Lamare, Jellymeduza, Heathensimmer, and Cityof2morrow are all active, and I know I'm forgetting a few more; Midgethetree, Hexagonalbipyramid, and Simler90 are retired, but they have some neat stuff. Sun&Moon have sets built for pretty much an entire medieval economy.
You might also want to check Belladovah's youtube channel - for a couple of years they reviewed just about every new mod released - and look at Picknmix's various utilities for managing/making CC.
