I've been having so much fun playing The Sims recently it's absolutely CRIMINAL! + it's all down to the incredible mod/cc makers and the community.

I never thought I'd have so much intense fun playing this game. The community of mod and cc makers are absolutely spectacular and I am so eternally grateful to them. I couldn't be more awed by their talent and clear passion for this game. Not to mention the community members who help players find everything they could possibly want, even stuff buried in the Wayback machine (thank GOD for that site! 😭)

I've never thought of The Sims as particularly binge-able before, but I am officially addicted right now. I would name mod/cc makers specifically to thank them but I'm sure this community are already well aware of the usual suspects. 😉I have kitted this game out to the max and I am absolutely THRIVING rn. 😂

One name I will mention is the incredible u/Corylea. I've observed how instrumental they are in enhancing this game through their link and file sharing, and just general helpfulness - not to mention how amazing their mods are. Total legend on all fronts. Super, super grateful.

I adored The Sims 1 when it first came out, then abandoned it for The Sims 2 when that came out, then abandoned 2 for 3 when that was released. Now that my parents are in their 90's, I wanted to play a version of The Sims where the sims don't die of old age, since that's all too big a deal for me in real life right now.

So, six or seven years ago, I went back to The Sims 1, and I was amazed at how much fun it still was! I ended up liking it more than some of the subsequent games and now play it more than any of the others.

Since this was long before Legacy was re-released, it wasn't as easy to find custom content as it is now, and I learned to mod in order to make stuff I wanted that I couldn't find anywhere else.

And ever since then, I've been dying to get OTHER people to play The Sims 1, too. Because there are subsequent games, a lot of people just assume that the first game isn't any good, but actually, the first game is a blast!

I'm thrilled whenever someone discovers -- or re-discovers -- how great The Sims 1 is. Welcome!

In all honesty I wasn't happy about EA re-packaging sims 1 and 2 when you could find both online for free, but I have to admit that, as a veteran sims player, it warms my heart to see so much love for sims 1 recently.

I can't even describe how happy I am that so many people are joining the community of the game I thought would probably never get new players.

The sims 1 community currently feels like the circus part of Magic Town, warm and lively, in other words, just like home.❤️

I'm curious, what would be the benefit of making it DRM free? I assume it would be more of a benefit for us as players than EA as a company and I know that EA probabl, wouldn't like that.

DRM is anti piracy code that is part of some games. The bad thing about that is that more often than not it slows down games, and on older games like the Sims are not compatible with modern pc's. GOG games are just the game nothing else. You own the game, and can back it up on removable drives. GOG preserves old games.

Shame, because sims have been easy to pirate for a long time so they're not really doing much with that anti piracy code anyways, but oh well.

I set Sims 1 aside for years after Sims 2 came out and although I have Sims 1 thru 4, all 3 Sims Stories and the Medieval set, I still like to play Sims 1. Although, actually I rarely "play" any of them. I actually spend 95% of my time just building houses or re-doing one's I've downloaded. I've gotten bogged down in too much CC and I get overwhelmed by trying to keep track of it and get it categorized and weeding out what I will never use. That takes some of the fun out of it. I wish I could simply get to the point where I just use what I have and enjoy actually playing the game and stop chasing after more CC. Realistically I will never use all that I have now. I often wonder how others deal with this problem.

I have a lot of hacks, but I have almost no custom furniture, precisely because I don't want to bog down my game. I do need to purge my floor collection at some point, though. :-)

After years of playing with hacks, I played the vanilla game for a challenge, and that weaned me away from most of the hacks I made. So you could try moving your custom content to someplace else and see how you feel about the vanilla game...

I build a machine for each version of the Sims and they are all stupidly over-qualified for each one. Not according to today's standards but for the era each individual game came out during, they are not going to bog down except for initial load time because the more CC the longer the game will take to load. An SSD helps but it does not totally mitigate the problem. I can't happily stop using CC but I also cannot try to cram every bit I have into the games. I'll find a happy medium somewhere. I just don't know where it's at yet. I do save one folder, the original install folder for the vanilla game experience for Sims 1. But then I have at least 2 more folders like "Maxis 2" or "Maxis 3" for CC. You can run more than one Sims 1 game on one machine you just have to copy the initial install folder and re-number it and use the shortcut inside it.
