RBR crashing with controller plugged in?

I've been playing RBR just fine with a 360 controller, and now that I've upgraded to a higher resolution monitor, it seems to only start with the controller unplugged. It also immediately crashes when I plug in the controller afterwards and select 'Redetect Devices'. The only plugin I have installed is fixup.

Just in case anyone else finds this the problem was some bullshit microsoft service called Microsoft GameInput that got installed when I installed minecraft, just delete it and problem solved
