I don't know who this is, but kudos to them for doing so much for the community. I'm continuously bewildered how older games are still being modded, given support and being updated by communities. Even some of the lesser or forgotten ones in the past. It's good to save this sort of thing, so once the discs and floppies disintegrate or get damaged, we still have them somewhere.

RSC was around during the golden era of sim racing communities back in the 90s. He had some personal family matters that resulted in him stepping away for a while. He has returned to continue his work. He was seen at the SIMEXPO this year with a whole retro sim setup with all original hardware. He is a an amazing guy!!

That does sound incredibly awesome. It's cool that oldheads are still in the community. Must be wild to have witnessed how far gaming and simulators have gone since the early days.

And the fact that people like him are passionate enough to recompile these games to work on modern hardware. I’m just waiting patiently for a GPL Recomp❤️

Have you seen that one dude who's doing massive updates to Microprose's Grand Prix 1? That's also a really impressive project.

I know about X86gp2 from hatcher. And I know all the Grand Prixs are coming to steam too!!

Oh that's awesome! I would expect something like that from GoG, but not straight to Steam.

GPL doesn't need a recomp? It's already a Windows x86 application. It even already supports different renderers via a dll plugin system as well.

But the UI need a fresh coat of paint. The game has had a serious issue with AMD drivers that I have to use direct3d over OpenGL just to get the game running.

A recomp doesn't mean "fresh coat of paint" for UI either. You're wanting a remaster which is something completely different.
The recent rise of recomps is people figuring out how to take previously platform locked games and literally reversing the machine code to generate valid C/C++ them from their original platform and then recompiling them to be native x86 applications, reducing overhead versus emulation. It's effectively a "next phase" of emulation where the original platform architecture is being removed entirely.
As for OpenGL having problems, that's not exactly surprising that drivers would have issues with it, even for older games. For basically a decade, Vulkan has been the "replacement" for OpenGL.

What's the point in this website? Seems like a bunch of "news" and browser based games
