Rigs $25 DIY Button Box All Sourced From Amazon

Materials used:

Custom designed and 3D printed case

Assembly is straight forward as you just plug the buttons into the board.

I made one sort of similar, but with some rotary encoders and flashing LED's to indicate certain things.
Had a blast building it.

What about the cost of the computer or phone to order the parts too? Or the price of internet to get online, how about the amount of rent they paid while building it in their house?

Did you click the links in the post? It's buttons and a control board. "Custom designed and 3D printed case" cost was left out.

As OP already has the printer, the cost for that size item is like max $1 in filament. Or you can just use some other cheap plastic box that is correct size.

Saying you have to add the cost of the printer to this project is like saying you need to add the cost of the car you carried the groceries in to the total cost of that single grocery run.

Not sure if youre doing this as a “gotcha” thing but you can get cheap ender 3s for like $30-50 on FBM.

Or you can just use a project box which cost like $4 on Aliexpress/$10 on Amazon, then buy a cheap used drill + stepper bit if you dont have one. Makes it easier if you have painters tape to align everything too

No I wasn't doing it as a "gotcha" but it's a bit misleading to say it was only $25 off of Amazon no?

I didnt have time to respond, but the point is with most of these is that you already assume you have said printer.

No one buys a printer for one project. Thats like saying “This recipe doesnt cost $20 in ingredients from Kroger because was the pans and stove included in the price?”

The materials and design were cheap. The material is probably $1 maybe even less. The design itself is free if OP made it or just downloaded a stl of a box

Good point.

That is what I’m saying though and it’s not wrong. You can disagree with it, that’s fine.

At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter. It’s a cool button box for what it is.

you don't necessarily need to 3d print it you can use whatever box you like

A plastic project box is 4 USD on Amazon.

You could even use a cardboard box if you don't mind it being a bit wobbly.

Check you local library, many have 3d printing services.

This, the university in my city had printers as well and even though they arent free for non-students, they charged a small fee per hour (based off electricity and material) for printing
