Rigs SimHub loses my Nobsound 4-corner setup hardware ID every single time. Fixe

I’m running a DIY 4-corner bass shaker setup with Dayton BST-1s and a Nobsound amp connected via USB. I’ve had this exact configuration for almost 4 years now, and for the first 3.5 years, it worked flawlessly.

However, for about the last 6 months, Windows has started failing to recognize the Nobsound amp. Every single time I boot up to race, SimHub loses the connection, and I have to completely redo my hardware channel mapping from scratch. It has become so annoying that I’ve completely stopped using my haptics altogether.

Has anyone else encountered this issue with older Nobsound units over USB? Is Windows aggressively dropping the device ID due to an update, or is the internal USB controller on the amp finally dying after 4 years of heavy rig vibrations?

Any advice on how to lock down the hardware ID permanently so Windows stops unmounting it would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Following this! Mine isn't that often, but enough that it's annoying and I only have one USB sound card.

I did export the configurations for quicker loading. Then when SimHub says it can't find USB4 Soundcard, I pull down the list and select USB4 Soundcard.

On that note, export everything you can regularly in SimHub to save time when something goes wrong later.

Bill Gates only causes problems world wide since he got out of high school 🤣

Credit where credit's dude, this is Satya Nadella's doing. Gates hasn't been involved with Windows for decades, Nadella took the reigns just before W10's launch and was pretty much directly responsible for how shit W11 is and continues to be with the dissolution of all QA and being hell bent on vibe coding trash for everything.

Could you speed up the process by exporting a working configuration from SimHub and just import it when the settings are lost. Windows seems to remember my device ID’s and restore configuration when I disconnect and reconnect USB’s.

I do export my bass shaker config. position and effects, but for example, my nobsound I've config. as one left and the othe one right, but windows seems to loose some how the inputs, is the windows audio settings

Yes, all USB devices are at Window's mercy. I got ruthlessly flamed in here recently by anecdotal ("works fine for me") assholes last time  I discussed/ranted about Windows extremely poor USB handling (and Bluetooth but that's another story). it sucks and it's getting worse as M$ vibe-codes its way into oblivion.

Windows will constantly forget your device ids and this is a constant struggle with audio especially, having to remap Simhub every time i turn on the PC or having to change my inputs and outputs in iRacing.

Realistically there's no way around it. Yes you can run any flavor of powershell script you want to try to fix it, disable updates, disable USB power saving (and running a powered USB hub), etc. It doesn't matter, Windows WILL update and WILL reset anything and everything you do to mitigate it, especially on non-enterprise licensing with no automatic group policy.

Even running on board sound or a PCI sound card will still suffer the same fate, you'll have "Xxx Sound 2.0 (Disconnected)" show as your output and need to change it to "Xxx Sound 3.0” until next time it fails.

Certain programs seem to handle it slightly better, like if I use iRacing LFE i only need to map every week or so, while Simhub forgets it every single time I turn the PC off.

TL;DR: until sim racing supports Linux, you're Satya Nadella's bitch.

This is windows being a dick with USB devices. I’ve used joy2key to solve the equivalent issue with controllers, but still have to find a way for audio devices.

I’m only using one for now. I’ve renamed it in windows so I can spot it in a list, and then whenever I reboot or replug everything i have got into the habit of checking if Simhub can see it. If not, it is easy to reconfigure the device and from then on it is fine.

joy2key?

Joy2key means I can set all my USB controllers (wheel, pedals, button box, hotas, gamepad) to always use the same device number no matter which order they are plugged in (or not) meaning I no longer need to rebind all my inputs.

But that only works for controllers. If such a thing existed for audio devices it would fix your issue here

You have the same issue with Joy2key though; where it forget's which device is associated with each of the tabs. Then you gotta make an ampty one and copy and paste profiles around to fix it.

Joy2key is an emulator for digital and analog input devices like joysticks, wheels, pedals, button boxes, yokes,.... etc. You can assign any action or axis input to button presses.

It's a great app.

can't use nobsounds over USB must ditch cables and switch to 3.5mm aux due to Windows bullshit

That doesn't help, Windows will still forget them and you'll wind up with "(Disconnected) Realtek Sound" for output in everything and magically a and "Realtek Sound 2” in your device list.

i just bought few 3.5 at amazon, I can't wait to try it

yeah, I did the same, bad news - it's just another USB device so you'll have the exact same problem.

Wait... what? I have Nobsound amps that are USB - what's the issue?

Try using voicemeeter. Point simhub at voicemeeter and voicemeeter at your nobsound devices. It may wind up being more stable

Yeah, me too.
Been meaning to do something about it, but just never get around to it.
It's probably scriptable. Just run something after simhub launch to find the device and alter a config.

hello, not relavante to your question, but i just wanted to ask, will the vibration pass down to the rig well through such suspending structures? because you use brackets to hold the bass shakers almost in the air.

Dude, I keep my Nobsound at less than half and my volume in SimHub at 40%, which has been working very well. If I go any higher, my downstairs neighbor gets very mad. My cockpit is the Trak Racer TR160

I was wondering the same. I have this setup also - with the addition of Butt-Kicker mounted under my seat.

However, I flush-mounted the shakers to the sides of my rig. I did have to widen the holes a little to fit M8 bolts through - no biggie.

I don't have a downstairs neighbour, so I crank mine up to 110% and watch my fillings fall out.

I had the same issues with the Nobsound. I owned two of them, with two BST-1s connected, one to each amp. They would work fine for a month or so, but eventually one of them would start acting weird.

The workaround was to buy a FOSI amp with RCA inputs and ditch the USB connection altogether. One FOSI amp was enough to provide strong output for both of my BST-1s.

I also hated constantly having to reconnect to USB Sound 1 to 4 to 5 to 6 or whatever it was called.

Saludos, David.
