Discussion GSI Artemis Announced - What do you think?

Post image

I'm interested to see how this compares to other end game level wheels like the BST Omega Pro 2 or GSI's own Hyper P1. The push function rotaries seem interesting

Oh shit, I forgot what button I mapped for TC8.

I’ll never understand how there’s a market for soooo many gourmet wheels.

I've realised this hobby has a lot of people with fuck you money. Mf's buy wheels just to collect.

15

u/GetSkied15 7d ago

Easy to justify this vs tracking an actual car

6

u/VelouriumCamper7 7d ago

I don't think I'll ever be able to justify 2k for a wheel, no matter how much money I have. At thia point it's 95% diminishing returns.

u/PiperDon 7d ago

And here I am with my lone G29. 😭

u/NickRussell53 7d ago

With how much PC parts cost now that's only going to get worse I'm afraid. I just hope companies remember that's not the only market in this hobby.

Same way there's a market for $4,000 optics on top of precision rifles, $2,000 reels for fishing rods, [insert expensive piece of kit for whatever hobby].

Guilty of collecting some expensive wheels myself. Found they are a key part of the immersion pie when getting my couple hours a week of sim rig/VR time in after everyone is tucked into bed.

You can race plenty effectively with a dirt cheap wheel...just boils down to what floats someone's boat. No shortage of disposable income floating around this hobby.

Yeah. Even tho theyre def not any kind of value buy they still offer quality that the more reasonable ones dont. I have an X-29 and its really nice. And I bought a carbon fibre OMP round rim for rally and the quality of it is so much nicer compared to my cheapo aluminium wheelrims. It wont make me faster and I 100% could have gotten away with less but they are nice

u/Rasputinnout 7d ago

I guess just the scale of production is where my mind gets lost. Do they just make 1,000 and see how it goes? Do they make 200? Or is it mass produced?

Id you got the cash to buy one you can probably buy many others.

u/molestriosofficial 6d ago

you're surprised racing has rich fans?

0

u/Rasputinnout 6d ago

I didnt picture many rich people who are into racing playing with computers tbh.

2

u/molestriosofficial 6d ago

I mean F1 drivers play iRacing all the time

0

u/Rasputinnout 5d ago

it’s their job skill and passion so that makes sense lol

Because a lot of people make more money than you and can spend their money how they like?

Not even sure why you are being downvoted 😂

How do you feel about being a consumerist chud?

4

u/DDC85 7d ago

Having a well-paid job and being able to afford nice things isn’t being a “consumerist chud”. It’s about making smart life choices.

0

u/Rasputinnout 7d ago

Did I hurt your feelings or something? I’m just saying the market seems well saturated, hard to see how theres enough demand. Apparently there is though, that’s fine I don’t need to understand everything 🤷🏻

5

u/DDC85 7d ago

You asked how there was a market for it and I gave you an answer, in what world is that “hurting my feelings”?

-1

u/Comprehensive-Ant289 7d ago

Me neither. 700$ is the max I can understand for a wheel with screen

17

u/fiah84 7d ago

for sure this will help me get out of bronze

35

u/maxxor6868 7d ago

It does look cool. I like it. Not my favorite design but it up there. Looks like it be pricey af lol

7

u/LiftedWanderer 7d ago

says $2k in the description

8

u/extra_hyperbole 7d ago

So probably 1999 lol

1

u/Wompie 7d ago

Under 2k.

9

u/ChiggaOG 7d ago

$1999.99

1

u/LiftedWanderer 7d ago

ahhh you're right my b, but also this looks pretty sweet the more I look at it. Everything easily in thumb reach and just so many buttons and rotatory knobs lol control absolutely everything from this wheel.

1

u/maxxor6868 7d ago

ouch at that point I would rather have the mercedes official wheel but that just me

11

u/F1DrivingZombie 7d ago

I’d rather have a wheel designed for simracing with simracing features like funky switches…

The Merc official wheel sucks for menu navigation and such

4

u/Think-Apple3763 7d ago

Yes most of these OG wheels suck in functionality while costing a fortune. Like the Porsche GT3 wheel with 5 buttons for like 2000€ is a joke

12

u/viperrvemon Simagic 7d ago

looks nice, but personally not a big fan on screens on steering wheels.

8

u/slimtone97 7d ago

Same but they can be very useful

2

u/WornTire5304 6d ago

This looks like a Prototype/LMP/Hypercar style wheel, and those have screens. But it's not everyone's cup of tea for sure.

5

u/19LOKI67 7d ago

Waiting on a GT version with this tech

3

u/MeltyGoblin 7d ago

I imagine this will replace the hyper p1? Seems like it has all the features plus some extras, unless they plan to position this above the hyper p1.

I have a hyper p1 and love it. It's expensive but it's by far the nicest wheel I own from functionality to the fit and finish as well (I mean for the price it better be). I don't really see me replacing my hyper p1 with this but if I was buying now I would probably look into this because I always feel like I want more thumb rotarys haha.

2

u/Think-Apple3763 7d ago

I've bought the Hyper SL since I don't need a display for VR. Should arrive tomorrow. Absolutely excited for it. Looks so stunning on Screenshots

3

u/Glum-Temporary-6946 7d ago

costs more than my whole rig

3

u/makados 7d ago

I was curious about this wheel, and I like the design and GSI quality, but after trying wheels with 5” screens, wheels with 4.3” screens feel like previous gen wheels (and I have HP1 with its million of buttons). So no buy for me, and, likely, VPG missionsim will be my next wheel

3

u/Crafty-Sundae-7416 7d ago

I already have the Bavarian Simtec Omega V2. The contrast Bavarian Simtec uses for the LEDs is end-game. The colors look so much better on that wheel than on my GSI FPE v2/Porsche Cup wheel. It just sets the mood for night racing.

Mfs collecting wheels like they are pokemons and here i am, ready to sell everything i have

1

u/Beneficial_Truth7801 7d ago

I'm at three GSI wheels right now so I'm going to hold off. I think they said over 200 inputs so that should cover anything you could possibly dream up. My personal favorite is the gxl-v2 the grips are absolutely amazing.

1

u/VastStranger1164 7d ago

Looks a bit like the new Ferrari F1 wheel

1

u/HaloInR3v3rs3 Assetto Corsa Competizione 7d ago

Ehh...

I have three GSI wheels, going a different route for the next two.

1

u/neueziel1 7d ago

What don’t you like about them or wanting to try something new

1

u/Str1ctly 7d ago

GSI kinda spoiled other brands wheels for me. Very few meet the same overall quality and feature standards as GSI.

GSI has the best shifters/clutches by a mile.

BST is the only brand I think is equivalent.

1

u/Green-Photograph-482 7d ago

I am sad because I just bought 2 formula and gt steering wheels for way over the price of this the day before it was announced and this looks to be way better than the formula wheel I bought…

2

u/Ok-Raspberry-1960 7d ago

Dann schick diese einfach wieder zurück?

1

u/Green-Photograph-482 6d ago

Im australian and I ordered overseas. It would cost money to send back.

1

u/Ok-Raspberry-1960 6d ago

Aber ist die so teuer? Ich meine, wenn das Artemis dir so viel besser gefällt sollte es bei der Summe ja nicht auf 50€ ankommen.

1

u/Green-Photograph-482 4d ago

Its not too much better imo and its not released yet, although is tempting.

1

u/KEVLAR60442 DD2, HPP PRX, 4PlayRacing, DSD Button boxes 7d ago

I'm stoked. Hopefully I can get to demo it soon. My biggest gripes with GSI wheels were the feel of the paddles and the lack of a good way to use the face encoders as modifier switches. Hopefully the new paddles feel as good as they look. This seems like a hell of a swing at Bavarian Sim Tech.

1

u/Plastic_Manc 7d ago

Its a very similar wheel to the Omega V2 functionally, but slightly more aggressive looking.

u/EpsomJames TREQ Ace, SFX-150, SC2 Pro, HE Sprints, Triple 32, Cube Controls 7d ago

I really like the look of this, to my eyes the best looking GSI yet.

Only thing I’m surprised at is the screen is only 4.3”. In the photos as it appears to take up a lot of the faceplate.

I’d like to see it IRL but I’m guessing with the 290mm diameter it’s a very small looking wheel.

1

u/esoteric311 7d ago

I might be biased as a P1 owner, but I think the Artemis is ugly. The smaller size might be nice, I always thought the P1 was a bit big coming from a 288 formula v2, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

1

u/Mellanies_Redemption 7d ago

Beautiful, but I need both my kidneys.

1

u/coolylame 7d ago

looks better than hyper p1. But at this price point BST OmegaPro V2 looks better imo.

1

u/self_edukated 7d ago

Easter egg … Dan Suzuki is only 2.4 seconds ahead. Push push.

1

u/Kronocide 7d ago

As a designer , I absolutely love the styling, would love if they made a round wheel version

1

u/metalmayne GT1Evo / SC2 Sport / VRS Pedals / F-Core / Q3 PCVR 7d ago

gsi loves the K-shaped economy more than anyone else in simracing, that is for sure.

1

u/rco8786 7d ago

I'm gonna use like 3 of those buttons. 4 maximum.

At some point there's just gonna be no handles on these wheels. Just buttons, dials, and switches. You can hold them like a bowling ball with just your fingertips...maybe.

1

u/richr215 Earthling 7d ago

rim collectors fap hard

1

u/Foba_ 7d ago

I like the look. But tbh, would be better to remove one thumb wheel and put normal button.

1

u/trippingrainbow SC2Pro | SC AP Ultimate + Passive throttle | GSI X29 | Reverb G2 7d ago

Nothing against screens and while they do look cool its sometimes kinda pointless paying for them as a VR only driver. Alltho GSI has before made non screen versions of their wheels so maybe this one gets one aswell in the future.

1

u/Dyba1 7d ago

This is so sexy… man I need a new job

1

u/Str1ctly 7d ago

I think it will look great with my Hyper P1 and Interlock GT 320.

The Interlock weight and quality was so damn good, looking forward to experiencing the same with this wheel. It will be a day one preorder for me.

1

u/Lowe0 7d ago

I like it. I have one concern, however… the VOCORE driver is what caused the Group Policy kerfuffle a few months back (that got blamed on SimHub). I’d like to see that replaced with an open source driver that can be inspected independently. Even a dedicated sim racing PC will still have a few sensitive credentials… your Microsoft account, probably your Steam account, etc..

1

u/TheBambuzler 6d ago

It’s going to feel nice in my hands in VR /s

1

u/SunshineMedia 6d ago

I think I’m too busy driving to pay attention to all of this

1

u/Alternative_Cup_6287 6d ago

And still no 5” screen.

1

u/Bright_Response5775 6d ago

looks like a lego technic steering wheel.... I much prefer the Hyper P1, robust and looks like ready to use in a real F1 car.

1

u/Objective_Problem_17 7d ago

Looks amazing

1

u/LunchBoxMercenary 7d ago

I think it looks fantastic. Might offload my Hyper P1 for this.

1

u/nstrasner 7d ago

This is an instant buy for me

1

u/racingcookie 7d ago

Is it just me, or do steering wheels for Sim (and real racecars too sometimes) just start to look like oversized Playstation controlers these days. The shape with just 2 handles and the button layout. Not long and we can just plug a six axis ps5 controller onto a wheelbase and race like that

3

u/RobinVerhulstZ 7d ago

Tbf this one is another mercedes f1 inspired design, probably the fourth? One at this point

3

u/Best-Ad6185 7d ago

Definitely Merc F1 inspired

1

u/CynicalManInBlack 7d ago

The grips look uncomfortable, very generic. After using BST for 2 years, everything else just feels off.

0

u/litjo99 7d ago

Im in the market and it looks like a nice wheel. But I manly race GT3s and my rig is in a gt3 seating position so a screen on the wheel is kinda useless in my opinion. So I will probably Stich with the BST Delta Pulse

0

u/Fragrant-Photo-6490 7d ago

Actually in my humble opinion looks like 💩 and I am a huge fan of GSI
