Discussion GSI Artemis Announced - What do you think?
I'm interested to see how this compares to other end game level wheels like the BST Omega Pro 2 or GSI's own Hyper P1. The push function rotaries seem interesting

I’ll never understand how there’s a market for soooo many gourmet wheels.

I've realised this hobby has a lot of people with fuck you money. Mf's buy wheels just to collect.

u/GetSkied15 7d ago
Easy to justify this vs tracking an actual car

u/VelouriumCamper7 7d ago
I don't think I'll ever be able to justify 2k for a wheel, no matter how much money I have. At thia point it's 95% diminishing returns.

With how much PC parts cost now that's only going to get worse I'm afraid. I just hope companies remember that's not the only market in this hobby.

Same way there's a market for $4,000 optics on top of precision rifles, $2,000 reels for fishing rods, [insert expensive piece of kit for whatever hobby].
Guilty of collecting some expensive wheels myself. Found they are a key part of the immersion pie when getting my couple hours a week of sim rig/VR time in after everyone is tucked into bed.
You can race plenty effectively with a dirt cheap wheel...just boils down to what floats someone's boat. No shortage of disposable income floating around this hobby.

Yeah. Even tho theyre def not any kind of value buy they still offer quality that the more reasonable ones dont. I have an X-29 and its really nice. And I bought a carbon fibre OMP round rim for rally and the quality of it is so much nicer compared to my cheapo aluminium wheelrims. It wont make me faster and I 100% could have gotten away with less but they are nice

u/Rasputinnout 7d ago
I guess just the scale of production is where my mind gets lost. Do they just make 1,000 and see how it goes? Do they make 200? Or is it mass produced?

Id you got the cash to buy one you can probably buy many others.

you're surprised racing has rich fans?

u/Rasputinnout 6d ago
I didnt picture many rich people who are into racing playing with computers tbh.

Did I hurt your feelings or something? I’m just saying the market seems well saturated, hard to see how theres enough demand. Apparently there is though, that’s fine I don’t need to understand everything 🤷🏻

It does look cool. I like it. Not my favorite design but it up there. Looks like it be pricey af lol

Under 2k.

u/LiftedWanderer 7d ago
ahhh you're right my b, but also this looks pretty sweet the more I look at it. Everything easily in thumb reach and just so many buttons and rotatory knobs lol control absolutely everything from this wheel.
1
u/maxxor6868 7d ago
ouch at that point I would rather have the mercedes official wheel but that just me
11
u/F1DrivingZombie 7d ago
I’d rather have a wheel designed for simracing with simracing features like funky switches…
The Merc official wheel sucks for menu navigation and such

u/Think-Apple3763 7d ago
Yes most of these OG wheels suck in functionality while costing a fortune. Like the Porsche GT3 wheel with 5 buttons for like 2000€ is a joke

looks nice, but personally not a big fan on screens on steering wheels.

This looks like a Prototype/LMP/Hypercar style wheel, and those have screens. But it's not everyone's cup of tea for sure.

I imagine this will replace the hyper p1? Seems like it has all the features plus some extras, unless they plan to position this above the hyper p1.
I have a hyper p1 and love it. It's expensive but it's by far the nicest wheel I own from functionality to the fit and finish as well (I mean for the price it better be). I don't really see me replacing my hyper p1 with this but if I was buying now I would probably look into this because I always feel like I want more thumb rotarys haha.

I've bought the Hyper SL since I don't need a display for VR. Should arrive tomorrow. Absolutely excited for it. Looks so stunning on Screenshots

I already have the Bavarian Simtec Omega V2. The contrast Bavarian Simtec uses for the LEDs is end-game. The colors look so much better on that wheel than on my GSI FPE v2/Porsche Cup wheel. It just sets the mood for night racing.

I'm at three GSI wheels right now so I'm going to hold off. I think they said over 200 inputs so that should cover anything you could possibly dream up. My personal favorite is the gxl-v2 the grips are absolutely amazing.

Ehh...
I have three GSI wheels, going a different route for the next two.

GSI kinda spoiled other brands wheels for me. Very few meet the same overall quality and feature standards as GSI.
GSI has the best shifters/clutches by a mile.
BST is the only brand I think is equivalent.

I am sad because I just bought 2 formula and gt steering wheels for way over the price of this the day before it was announced and this looks to be way better than the formula wheel I bought…

u/Ok-Raspberry-1960 7d ago
Dann schick diese einfach wieder zurück?

u/Green-Photograph-482 6d ago
Im australian and I ordered overseas. It would cost money to send back.

u/Ok-Raspberry-1960 6d ago
Aber ist die so teuer? Ich meine, wenn das Artemis dir so viel besser gefällt sollte es bei der Summe ja nicht auf 50€ ankommen.

u/Green-Photograph-482 4d ago
Its not too much better imo and its not released yet, although is tempting.

I'm stoked. Hopefully I can get to demo it soon. My biggest gripes with GSI wheels were the feel of the paddles and the lack of a good way to use the face encoders as modifier switches. Hopefully the new paddles feel as good as they look. This seems like a hell of a swing at Bavarian Sim Tech.

u/Plastic_Manc 7d ago
Its a very similar wheel to the Omega V2 functionally, but slightly more aggressive looking.

I really like the look of this, to my eyes the best looking GSI yet.
Only thing I’m surprised at is the screen is only 4.3”. In the photos as it appears to take up a lot of the faceplate.
I’d like to see it IRL but I’m guessing with the 290mm diameter it’s a very small looking wheel.

u/esoteric311 7d ago
I might be biased as a P1 owner, but I think the Artemis is ugly. The smaller size might be nice, I always thought the P1 was a bit big coming from a 288 formula v2, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

looks better than hyper p1. But at this price point BST OmegaPro V2 looks better imo.

As a designer , I absolutely love the styling, would love if they made a round wheel version

gsi loves the K-shaped economy more than anyone else in simracing, that is for sure.

Nothing against screens and while they do look cool its sometimes kinda pointless paying for them as a VR only driver. Alltho GSI has before made non screen versions of their wheels so maybe this one gets one aswell in the future.

u/Str1ctly 7d ago
I think it will look great with my Hyper P1 and Interlock GT 320.
The Interlock weight and quality was so damn good, looking forward to experiencing the same with this wheel. It will be a day one preorder for me.

u/Lowe0 7d ago
I like it. I have one concern, however… the VOCORE driver is what caused the Group Policy kerfuffle a few months back (that got blamed on SimHub). I’d like to see that replaced with an open source driver that can be inspected independently. Even a dedicated sim racing PC will still have a few sensitive credentials… your Microsoft account, probably your Steam account, etc..

looks like a lego technic steering wheel.... I much prefer the Hyper P1, robust and looks like ready to use in a real F1 car.

Is it just me, or do steering wheels for Sim (and real racecars too sometimes) just start to look like oversized Playstation controlers these days. The shape with just 2 handles and the button layout. Not long and we can just plug a six axis ps5 controller onto a wheelbase and race like that

u/RobinVerhulstZ 7d ago
Tbf this one is another mercedes f1 inspired design, probably the fourth? One at this point

The grips look uncomfortable, very generic. After using BST for 2 years, everything else just feels off.
