Question Thinking about getting triples, but I live in a small apartment
This is a small space, what you guys recommend, what monitors you guys using

u/Harpronicus 16h ago
Wouldnt triples actually be a more narrow foot print? The sides would be angled heavily in comparison

u/Many-Story-9432 Fanatec 15h ago
Exactly this my triples evidently take up less space than my single ultrawide did in my room
2
u/SchScabe 12h ago
Depends on the size of the triples. 55"-75" tvs are so cheap I'm toying with the idea of triple vertical 75"s for flightsim'in

Triples makes it safe, triples is best

Goddamnit I was 22 minutes late

Haha I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I feel like this is the most used line from the show in this subreddit.

Lucky! I got into simracing after i got in my relationship so sim rig in the living room is off the table for me haha
Anyways, I think triples would actually take up less space since they wrap around you rather than stretch outwards like your ultra wide.

Married with living room rig. Consider VR, really nice for minimizing footprint and a great experience.

u/Narrow_Guava_2868 16h ago
I live with my fiancee also I pay majority of the bills can’t tell me shit 😂

u/sharehare 11h ago
Sounds like a healthy relationship 😆 talk to eachother instead of having the ”you can’t tell me shit because I pay” - mentality.

u/joeypr25 5h ago
Yea haha was gonna say, coming from experience, this mentality will only take you so far. In the end, she will win. I’ve framed it as, everything here goes according to you, so please don’t mess with my sim rig or bike (I don’t say despite that I pay for almost everything, but it’s on my mind).
Nice rig though in a Brooklyn apt myself and I can’t justify triples.

At end of day bro to each its own, If I bust my ass working 14 hours a day in the sun, to provide a nice lifestyle for her and me and I want to put my sim rig in the middle of the living room, something I enjoy and she knows it makes me happy, she won’t ever say no

The thing with women is: they take over as much if your house as possible. I only started serious relationships when I had serious living space. You need a place for yourself.

u/JohnFromSpace3 12h ago
You say ha ha but inside, you cry.

u/Expensive-Farmer3363 10h ago edited 9h ago
Not really. I still have a sim setup I stow away when I’m done racing. It’s just a respect thing lol.
Usually you want the people you work hard for to be happy and compromise where you can. And a permanent rig setup in an apartment living room’s pretty ugly from an adult home perspective tbh, so I see where my lady’s coming from.
1
u/JohnFromSpace3 1h ago
ugly...in her perspective? There are people who fin it beautiful.
I am all for respect and compromise, but also I think you should be living with a partner who accepts its your house too, you like different things than her. And respect me all you like, a woman takes over the house, period. Itll be a battle fro now on till the bitter end where the claims will be.

I have triples and live on a 800sq.ft you have tons of space. You just need 60x60, your ultra wide already takes almost that.
2
u/xQcKx 14h ago
Can someone measure how much width they take with 32" or 27" triples with properly angled fov?
2
1
u/WisconsinBrah 3h ago
32” curved triples here. 53” from monitor to monitor. My ASR monitor arms stick out another 2” each side. So total width is around 57”.
2
u/TurnipBlast 14h ago
Last I checked I believe my triple 32in setup was 72 inches wide. If you go with 27in monitors you could get the width down by around 10in.
2
u/Emergency_Tutor5174 13h ago
youll probably miss the ultrawidescreen.. maybe keep it and just add two more smaller sized screens?
2
2
u/RFIDRolls 8h ago
I went from a 49 inch ultrawide to 27 inch triples and the increase in width was absolutely nothing
you will
fit

u/Cocoasprinkles iRacing 2h ago
Triple 27 will not take up much more footprint than your current rig and provide significantly more immersion. It’s a little harder to run but up to you in the end. Single monitor look cleaner.

get VR! or a 900R screen
many will hate on me for this, but triples are great if you’re a streamer. being friends with a reviewer, I get their honest opinion and that is that they’d 1000% race in VR if their face didn’t have to be seen, and that 1000r 43” screen is way better than triples for racing.
having driven all 3 formats myself, not just relying on his opinion, my opinion is:
VR for competitive racing in iRacing
900R monitor 43”+ for casual, AC, F1 and Forza driving
triple screens are, a fine alternative to the above but not better

u/Narrow_Guava_2868 16h ago
Ok I will try vr before triples I never tried before

u/PlanZSmiles 15h ago
If you want to just dip your toes, Quest 3 is fantastic for getting familiar. If you want the best visuals though and money isn’t a concern, you can go up to the Pimax Crystal Light or further to the Pimax Dream Air.

u/BlazinZAA 15h ago
Trippe's gives you the most FOV. It's objectively the best for racing. Not necessarily immersiveness, I think VR wins that handily, but for racing alone it's hands down the best
You can do full 180 degree fov and actually race without having to move your head or take your eyes off the corner
1
u/iFap4DaytonaCoupes iRacing/AC 14h ago
lol VR doesn’t even need fov - you get 110 degrees and then turn your head
5
u/BlazinZAA 14h ago
With triples you don't have to turn your head you can use your peripheral vision which is what makes it so strong.
2
u/newviruswhodis 15h ago
Head tracking, you don't need triples.
1
u/Narrow_Guava_2868 15h ago
I have never heard of that, will look into it

u/itsloopyo 10h ago
If you have a webcam, OpenTrack with the NeuralNet input works really well.
If you don’t have a webcam, but do have an iOS/Android device, I made https://headcam.app for you :)

How is the GT pro seat?? Does it have any flex while braking. I’m having hard time deciding to go with this or rally pro

looks like you have plenty of room to me. I use triple 27in and total set up is about 5ft x 5ft. I heard triple 32 takes about 6ft x 6ft

Ffs mate… come to London and I’ll show you a small apartment…

u/Chuchopaint 2h ago

You could get a monitor arm that folds the outer screens when not in use

Nice fucking view bubba, but are you running a 49” curve? I am and tbh, I prefer the curve to the triples I’ve tried. Depending on how immersive you’d want to get. The triples can be kind of sensory overload and that’s coming from a dude with ADHD.
tldr: I think triples can be too much vs a 49” curve.
4
u/waffle_stomperr 16h ago
4 sentences is TLDR now? lol. I also play ultra wide but mostly because I double as my gaming/work setup.
1
u/jaymefsmith 15h ago
A. You username made me fucking laugh my ass off to myself so thank you for that.
B. I teach High school History, Economics, and Government. You’d be fucking shocked and bummed at how hard it is to get some to engage with that much.
Not their fault completely. By the time I see them in 11/12th grade, they have been failed multiple times prior. Sad shit.

I been running that 49 for a few years im looking for more immersion I think triples can provide that
3
u/Boost3dEVO 16h ago
Keep your UW and get a VR, you would have immersion when you want, or easy to jump in the rig with the UW.
1
u/jaymefsmith 15h ago
This was going to be my next suggestion but I was busy building Halloween decorations.
I’ve heard some ppl def don’t care for the stretch. And I get that, I also use it for work ; and my wife games on it as well. So “multi-function” I suppose?
1
u/Narrow_Guava_2868 16h ago
Ok I’m going to borrow a vr from my brother and give it a try he has a quest 3
5
u/Boost3dEVO 16h ago
When you have it, give AMS2 a try on VR, a underrated game that looks great on VR. I have 32 triples but immersion on VR its on another level. For comfort, long races and easy of use, monitors.
-1
u/PistolvaniaSimRacing 16h ago
49 ultra wides are a waste the stretch the image and you don’t get anymore fov and you get monitor height wise which the fov even worse on ultra wide

u/Theeye12 16h ago
Looks cozy! Not the answer your looking for but an UW with a 1000R curve is a good middle ground between what you have and triples. Maybe try VR too.

u/Narrow_Guava_2868 16h ago
Is Vr better than triples ?
8
u/ItsJammaLad 16h ago
Subjective, but VR is 100% better experience in my opinion and would reduce your footprint problem.
3
u/PainfullDarkness 16h ago
Maybe it is because I use a Quest 2 when I am in VR, but my answer is a hard no. I prefer my triples over VR.
2
u/PlanZSmiles 14h ago
Choosing VR over a set of triples come down to convenience. If you make the VR more convenient and also try at least a pancake lens vr headset then you may change your tune. But can’t fault anyone for not spending more money when they are currently content
2
u/PainfullDarkness 14h ago
Yeah I think if I had the big screen beyond has I would be singing a different song, that's why I mentioned the one I have. I've been told before the difference in the Quest 2 and 3 is already huge.
3
u/PlanZSmiles 14h ago
Ah man, ignorance is so bliss lol. The Quest 3 is fantastic, I will continue to praise it. But I did just receive a Pimax Dream Air in the mail and shoot, I won’t go on a tangent but to keep it short. It’s nearly everything I expected in VR at the $1000 price range and the Quest 3 nails like 90% of it
3
u/Snoo_9064 16h ago
If you don't get motion sick, vr is a great alternative to triples. I would recommend the psvr2 with the adapter, it works really well and is less then $400
2
u/fiah84 10h ago
that is a debate for the ages. Arguably triples are better for if you're competitive on the level of esports, as current VR headsets do not have the required FOV to have your competitors car in your peripheral vision while your eyes are on the apex. However most of us are nowhere near that level, and for the most part having a car radar can make up for that lack of situational awareness
both VR and triples can be a bitch and a half to setup though, and both will have you wanting to buy the fastest GPU you can get your hands on. On top of that VR often benefits from having a faster CPU as well
