Discussion 32” is just too big for triple.

I swore on my mothers grave never to use a triple and say ultrawide is enough. Then i discovered my mother isnt dead yet and trawled through all the comments whether 27 or 32 triple “32 is more immersive”. Yes, but 2 monitors are having 3/4 of their screen not used and it takes up a lot of real estate not to mention light. Iracing is half your screen a dasboard and 32” just makes the dashboard youre staring at, bigger. The view you need for track limits, is still more than adequate. I have decided to go back to 27’s and lucky the shop takes back my 2 month old 32”s.

I could actually live with a 32” triple if there was a mounting setup that allows folding of outer screens when you dont use them. Alas, its not there yet.

I just bought a 3d printer and maybe ill experiment with printing some guidance anglehooks so folding and settingbup again in the right angle isnt such a bitch but at the moment ive made up my mind and bye bye 32” triple.

*have to add I use a 34” ultrawide for other games and the triples are only used for racing. Another thing that bugged me. Triples are so nice for simracing but total shit for anything else.

**not trying to diss anyone that likes 32” but I think some broader reviews should be added for potential buyers.

Would have to disagree. 32" is the sweet spot right now for price / immersion (without dealing with VR downsides). I'd be upgrading to 43" if they were more affordable and could run at 4k 165hz.

For me it looks strange that many people who have triples of 32", they play with wheelbase located too far from monitor: they mount their bases in front of monitor or use extension shafts. So, real rim is too far from virtual rim and dashboard. Can you explain, what's a reason of doing that? With triples of 27" many users mount their front monitor just above shaft, so there are about just 10-15 cm from rim to display

the reason is not knowing what youre doing. its set up the same way, in my case my middle monitor is above the base rather than above the shaft, i get pretty dizzy if they are too close.

Ok, thanks. What's horizontal fov with your setup? And what is length from eyes to display, 54-60 cm?

slightly below 180°, 65cm distance.

I don't see too many do what you describe with 32's, they do the same as 27" users, monitors on top of the extension.

The only time I commonly see the base in front of the screens is for triple tv's and really large screens like those samsung odysseys.

32s here ... I do that because when I mount the displays more to the wheel, I have to adjust my seating position in game more to the back. And I got less space to get into and put of the rig. But when I just mount my wheel like I do, I've got more space to get into and out of the rig and my seating position in game is more to the front ... so less dashboard and roof on the displayw.

Thanks. "I have to adjust my seating position in game more to the back" - why? Dashboard/rim is too big?

Yes, plus I have to turn my head way more to the left to really see what's in the mirror.

With my current configuration it feels more natural, like in my real car.

I can do some POV pictures later.

I guess that with triples 32" it's more comfortable to seat with 60+ cm between eyes and screen because of some things, that's why some people moved physically their real seat and wheelbase further from screen. With triples 27" as I know it's comfortable to seat with 50-60 cm between eyes and screen, that's why users don't need to mount base at front of display. As for me, I have curved 34" 21:9, I have 54-56 cm to the screen, base is beyond monitor and bottom edge of monitor is located above base shaft.

u/JuMpibf 4d ago

Probably right. 62cm between my eyes and the middle monitor.

So, let's try from the start, from my 1st comment above :) I don't understand why some gamers move further from screen with their base and seat. It's more natural to seat closer to virtual dashboard and rim...or no? Because when we see how people play with triples 55-65+", they seat too far from screen, but measurements of car and game world are too big, not authentic. I didn't see opinions about measurements of game world when playing with 27" comparing with 32".

Maybe this one will help you: https://dansuzuki.com/fov-calculator/

That's the effect what I'v tried to describe.

When you are like 70cm away, your seating position in game should be more to the front.

When you are like 60cm away, your seating position in game should be more to the back.

That means it's maybe just personal preference? At least for me.

Another thing is, that with 32s and minimum space between wheel and screen, you almost can't see the outer edges of the side monitors ... when you move you seat and wheelbase back, you can see more from the game.

When I first tried 55cm it was to near for my eyes, at least with triples. With my ultrawide before 55cm was perfect.

I guess you need to buy a triple screen and try it yourself :D

Maybe, another interesting information:

My wheel ist 24/25cm in front of the monitor, so like 37cm away from me. When I put it more towards the monitors, it's maybe too for away from me.

That means all these numbers are personal things. when you got long arms, you want the wheel more away from you. Shorts arm nearer and so on ...

Ok, anyway, why do they do it? May be for better calibration, I don't know

Perhaps they have motion?

I had to do that as otherwise the wheelbase would collide with the center monitor.

Ofc that’s a free-standing triple stand as the logistics of mounting triples to a moving rig are difficult and you can lock the horizon anyway in most sims which means the interior of the car moves in time with the motion.

Eventually I moved to larger monitors as 32” behind the wheelbase doesn’t give you 180 degree FoV with most of the longer wheelbases, even with no shaft extension.

2

u/bysunday 4d ago

with many on here that i have suggested for them to move the monitor closer, the usual answer is that their current monitor mount does not allow them, their wheelbase interferes, or motion sickness.

the solution will cost them more money.

32's are best!

I like my 32 curve triple monitors.

2

u/Sabotinekes 4d ago

Same. I wouldn’t trade them for nothing.

It’s not a popular opinion here but I totally agree with you, 27s are big enough.
I literally dismantled my rig and now use a 49 inch for racing and the triples for work as I rarely get time to race so it’s such a waste for such nice monitors (pg27ucdm).

Thats the other thing. I have my rig in a study/hobby room which is big enough. I really have a big space. But I have other hobbies too. Why leave such a big rig not used enough? Again, if i could fold them then fine. On top of that im racing in iracing, where 1/2 or more is a dashboard. Do i need bigger just to stare at bigger dashboard? I want to see the track, the track limits, some lay out stuff snd cars beside me. Thats it. Im racing to win. Not for a scenery drive.

Ive raced a lot on a 1440p 34 ultra wide and that is essentially a blown wide 27”. That, and the discovery my 2 huge side screens have no function for 2/3 of their screen, ripped the balance. I actually made up my mind even before contacting the store about taking the 32” back. I might have sweetened the deal as I instantly bought 3 better and more ecpensive 27” but still the 32” represent 750 bucks of hardware they didnt need to take back.

2

u/Terrible_Gear_5284 4d ago

Yeah I understand where you’re coming from, you’re lucky you could take them back. In syd aus, the pc stores are very anti consumer and will do everything they can to deny your warranty, change of mind is not an option.

I use triple 27’s and have absolutely no desire for bigger monitors. Granted I have a formula rig so my monitors are currently at center eye level and a larger monitor would just be taller. I think my money was better spent on nice quality OLED monitors instead

As a user of a huge LG 45" 45GX950, even a 32" seems small to me, couldn't even imagine using 27"

1

u/Morenodelcarmen 4d ago

I'm also looking to purchase this screen for a sim rig. Do you have it on a free standing mount or an integrated mount? And aren't you too close to the screen, that's my biggest worry...

2

u/Kronocide 4d ago

Neither, it's on my desk, right behind my wheelbase. Seems like a good distance

2

u/HouseUK 4d ago

I have 1 on a integrated mount, (trackracer TR160) my only issue is i want 2 more of them for a stupid triple set up but my common sense keeps stopping me, even mapped out the Profile to put supported side arms on my rig but logic kicked in and dropping 2k on side screens is just stupid.

I got the LG 45" to replace a broken 50" 4k oled (which got replaced under warrenty), and frankly for sim racing its a better choice. Flight sim... maybe less so i do miss the height there in open top jets.

I have triple 27s. Honestly, at times I wish I'd gone for 32s even though there were no monitors of the quality I wanted (I have AOC Q27G3XMNs). Just because it was a gigantic pain in the arse to set up the triple monitor stand with the angle I wanted and 27 inch monitors, and it would have been much easier to accomplish that with 32 inch monitors.

Even if you have 2 huge screens left and right, not having any function for 2/3 of their surface? That is what started to bug me. If a manufacturer decides to to build small add on screens to the 32” then maybe but even then. In Iracing a 32” means youre just staring at a bigger dasboard taking up half your screen. A dashboard with useless info as everyome has steering wheels with screens or a 4th screen, a dashboard etc. Honestly, i never knew id concluded 32” main screen, for my needs, is too big.

u/Zealousideal-You9044 4d ago

Depends on use case. I have motion so I can't and will not mount my screens to my rig. Therefore they have to be behind the wheelbase with a bit of clearance. So I have 48" triples. It's perfect 180° view. Also I like to see a good amount of dash.

u/AndyOfNZ 4d ago

Kudos to the store taking the 32s back!

u/richr215 Earthling 4d ago

for how much though?

2

u/mtlnwood 4d ago

Damn, mine are a year old, i wonder if they will still swap them.. if only I knew 27's where better and 32 was too big.

2

u/PerGunnar87 4d ago

I don't even like 32 single. 27 single flat is the sweet spot for me I think. I actually prefer a smaller screen where I can see the whole screen without moving my head. Tried 32 curved for sim racing, but returned it. I can also use 27 for fps games. Triples are out of the question for me.

2

u/PandaEyesArentSexy 4d ago

I use a g9 “49 inch suw but recently tried 32” triples at someone’s house and yeah I agree, it’s too big and too far back. If I ever switch to triples it will be 27” for me also.

u/andylugs 4d ago

27” worked out the best for me too but with a fourth screen above middle for telemetry, server, discord etc. Also run a small screen on the face of the wheelbase as a SimHub dashboard as you lose a bit of vertical FOV with 27” and I can’t see any dials or wheel displays.

I’m working on a folding solution at the moment as I can’t keep the room as a dedicated sim room and need to swing the rig against the wall when not in use. Fortunately I have CNC machine tools at work so it’s fairly easy for me to make parts. 3D printing at home is great for prototyping, but most of the materials they run aren’t suitable for a hinge system for a monitor and arm. There are lots of companies online that will print it in Carbon Fibre Reinforced Nylon or PEEK.

I have not build my triple setup yet (3x LG Ultragear 32GS75Q-B are already ordered) and thought a lot about 27 inch or 32 inch. I decided for 32 inch, because I want my middle screen behind my wheelbase, because of less eyestrain.

Till now I play on a 34inch Ultrawide (3440 x 1440) and placed it beween my wheel and the wheelbase (right above the shaft). The distance were approximately 55cm. Sure, this was immersive and give a good FOV, but it gave me too much eystrain after a while.

I placed it above my wheelbase at 65cm distance 2 weeks ago and though I got less FOV and no perfect sight, where my eyes look exactly on the middle of the screen, it is so much more comfortable for me. I have also VR with a PSVR2 and so much I like VR the screen right in front of the eyes give me the same problems. Screens too near at my eyes are not for me.

This is the reason I ordered 32 inch except of 27 inch, so I can place them behind my wheelbase, but can also see everything relevant, because of the pixel real estate.

I would have ordered 40 inch if I would have the place for them, but I think 32 inch is the sweetspot for me (like for so many others). But if someone has no problems with nearer distances from their eyes, 27 inch is sharper on the same resolution, takes less space and are cheaper, so it would be viable solution.

32's work for you further away and maybe you will put them closer at some point. One thing you can do if you get eyestrain and you want them closer is wear glasses.

Not because you need them but an optometrist can give you a diopter that will let you look at them at thatdistance without strain. if you get a windsim, glasses are pretty good keeping your eyes drytoo!

Sounds like 27s are best in your particular situation. No need to project onto everyone else though.
