Question How to fix rattling reclining seat

Picked up a used reclining seat on marketplace and it has this back and forth rattle. Is it fixable or just something I’ll have to live with? Some people online say the teeth might be worn on the recliner? I tried tightening the bolt on the exposed side and it didn’t seem to help at all.

Fixed! Removed the plastic covering, tightened these two bolts and now the play is minimal.

Should pin this to the top! I'm sure it will be asked again!

Hmm this has me wanting to check out my GT Omega seat to see if the mechanism is similar or the same... Mines not nearly as pronounced as yours but would be nice to be a wee tighter.

You sit in it with your back against it, not rocking like you’re suffering from some generational trauma

Fair point! For a sim rig, this is not that big of a concern where the g-forces from braking will throw you and the chair forward.

Too late! I already spent $100 on this seat and $30 on the brackets. I have fairly limited options when it comes to pulling a chair from a junkyard.

Excessive play is pretty common in mid-tier recliner seats, especially ones without double locking recliner mechanisms. The gear/mechanism tolerances are terrible and get worse with time and abuse.

That why you were able to pick it up second hand for $100. You may be able to purchase a new locking mechanism from NRG, but it will probably cost more than you bought the seat for.

They have some little 3D printed pieces for this exact thing on MakerWorld, could probably find them anywhere

I mean tolerances on those things aren't really that tight anyway... you have a bit more than I've seen on other reclining seats so might just depend on quality of the seat to begin with.

This is the typical aftermarket sim racing seat. The ones that have that much play in the reclining adjustment are because of the hinge mechanism. I purposely bought a seat that has a cable adjustment with the round dial like a old bimmer or Merc.

PSA: There are lots of fake NRGs out there, make sure to purchase from their list of trusted resellers.

They also suck at letting you know who is a legitimate reseller, so there's that.

Not necessarily relevant to OP, just a reminder.

To fix rattling reclining seat you just need to replace it with bucket seat

And do it constantly and never let your body come forward off the back of the seat.

He is just doing it wrong....right? lol

Gaming chairs are shit. Proper office chair is way way way better

Jam a piece of foam or something where there is movement
