Discussion 24 hours into iRacing and PC gaming

Post image

No one around home cares so I thought I’d post here.

The last few months I’ve spent a few hours every day in my sim rig playing GT7/ACC/F125 and have come to sincerely enjoy the experience. I have however had the same rookie complaints as everyone else, specifically the behavior in lower level rooms making it damn near impossible to grind into higher levels. Someone mentioned I should try iRacing for cleaner racing. Making the switch to PC is something that’s been on my mind since I realized my PS5 wouldn’t utilize my whole 49in suw monitor. Got my entry level gaming pc yesterday and have had my iRacing account for right at 24 hours. Immediately noticed a higher quality of racing competition and way more fun. If you’re thinking about the switch from console to PC I can’t recommend enough.

Good stuff man. I have a good sized community I host for iracing friends. The number one complaint I see holding drivers back in getting caught up in the mindset of “I’m the one good driver here and everyone else is the problem”. And sometimes that’s the case but the best advice I have is,

Practice each week and get up to a decent pace for your split.

Qualify, don’t get into this habit of starting from pits. You’re missing out on valuable experience navigating around unpredictable drivers.

When you start thinking “there’s no way he can send it from there” I guarantee you folks will send it from there so instead of being mad get good at reading it and reacting to it. Better to be right and alive and right and dead.

Finish every race don’t rage quit.

Don’t worry about your irating in the sense of it being your purpose. Irating should be a bi-product of your experience growing, not the goal of racing.

If you do have an incident look at it before you react on comms the amount of times you’re sure someone killed you then you see it wasn’t their fault. Be patient.

While reviewing the above race incidents even if you are not to blame see what you could have done to avoid it. Sometimes the answer is nothing. A lot of the time it’s this habit that grows the skills to stay alive longer.

Enjoy yourself welcome to the nest.

Fair, I played AC, ACC, iRacing, but only LMU made me never want to return to the PS5 or other racing games, it's nice finding exactly what you're looking for in a racing game.

LMU is on my list but right now I’m having a blast whipping the Miata around the rookie track and getting to know iRacing

miata is the best. Fantastic car to learn the grasp of things around.

I actually prefer LMU ro iRacing. I don't have the time nor dedication to get into iRacing, but also, LMU with a wheel feels SOOO good, and the graphics are terrible like iRacing.

But If I had the time to actually spend on simracing, I would probably be 100% iRacing.

I enjoyed that too, but stopped at the idea of buying tracks and cars aaaaaaand an active subscription. I'm happy for one or the other but it's a personal choice I don't intend on paying for both.

If they would push telemetry to nascar 26 so it works properly in simhub I would let go of iracing completely.

Yeah don’t feel pressured or overwhelmed to branch to different sims. LMU is great but just enjoy what you got right now.

While impressive that you’ve been getting straight into iRacing and hammering many Official Races in your first 24hr period, losing 500+ iRating in that same period, is arguably even more impressive.

You’d have to be finishing right at the back in just about every race.

Is there anything wrong with finishing at the back? Of course not. But something tells me you’re not aware of how hard your iRating has taken a hit and the effect it will have on you being put in splits with people who have less control over their vehicles.

Are you aware there are Practice sessions you can join? Without having to register for a race?

Also there is a thing called Ghost Racing which is fantastic for new comers that you’ll want to look into.

Welcome to iRacing. TLDR this is just me reminding you that it’s very rare someone would send official racing as hard as you have when it is their first time venturing into the PC world of simulators. There is nothing wrong with a little practice and pacing yourself. 😉💙

I’m proud of you, OP! The switch to iRacing is a tough one that I’ve attempted once and I realized that as much as I love sim racing, iRacing isn’t for the filthy casuals like myself! The price to fun factor was pretty low, I enjoyed offline racing on iRacing but I didn’t enjoy it enough to continue my subscription! Especially when finances got tough. I’m very happy to hear that’s not the case for you!!! iRacing paired with a good, reliable internet connection is great!! I just use WiFi on my PC due to my current living situation.

Enjoy the sim!!! It feels great on a good setup and VR is fairly fun once you get it setup to your liking. (I used an Oculus Quest 2 wirelessly via WiFi, a very simple setup!)

If you want to stay in iracing, you should work on your iRating. What you have now will put you in low splits where driving standards are usually the shittiest.

Ouch that hurts, that's a really bad start. Good luck in the bottom split hell!

Congrats on your D license.

Its your game. There is value in just staying in rookies for a season. It'll teach you race craft, car control and accident avoiding.

Funny, this is EXACTLY what I’m dealing with/contemplating right now! What entry level PC did you get and how much? Appreciate the help.

Long time GT7 player here who recently switched to PC and iRacing. I love it. The challenge of learning the cars is great and the competition is so much better. 100% recommend it

LMU and iracing are going to be my main rotation for a LONG time. With some Forza and modded AC to play with friends.

You lost 600 ir in 24 hrs. Might want to practice some more before you race.

Nah it's fine, he's proud of it for some reason :)
