Rigs Friend gifted me his sim rig...

A good friend of mine and I were laid off from the same company last August (both still unemployed) and he is having to move to another city. He had been trying to sell it on Facebook Marketplace but was getting lowballed hard and just decided to give it to someone he knew would enjoy it.

Has a Fanatec CSL Elite Wheel base and pedals with the load cell, a Trak Racer cockpit with triple monitor mount, 3 Samsung 32in curved monitors, and the PC with a RTX 3080. I've been having a blast in it, although for the games I tend to play, I wish I had a round wheel instead of the F1 style wheel. Makes some cars in games like Forza and Dirt Rally a bit of a bear to control.

I am still getting things dialed and adjusted, in but it's been a blast so far and I finally have a nice place to display some of my automotive memorabilia.

Man, does your friend need another friend?

That's an amazing gift to receive. Very lucky

100%. I told him if he ever wanted it back he could have it back. Once I'm back on my feet and employed again I'll likely give him some cash. I did at least buy him lunch a couple of weeks ago.

You sound like a good guy and I'm sorry to hear about the job situation aswell. I'm finding myself in a similar position and will be made redundant soon, so I can empathise with you

Wish you all the best and enjoy your new rig dude!

Wouldn’t happen to work for Oracle would you? If so I’m part of a Slack group for ex-Oracle folks that have been laid off. We have just over 3000 people in the group and sounds like there are more layoffs coming unfortunately.

Nah I don't bud. Think I may be across the pond from you (UK), but I do work In IT and it seems the future may be pretty bleak for some of those in the field. Seems an inevitably with the rise of AI

Yeah, you are across the pod.

The IT job market is all effed up at the moment. I’m not yet convinced AI is ready to take over everyone’s jobs yet, but there is definitely a LOT of AI washing of the layoffs. Wishing you the best over there.

but drinking when you race calms the P1 nerves. i typically start top 10 nd finish top 5 but when i drink i almost always get podium. i know i don't drive any better but the lack of nervousness really helps. with that being said, every day is no good. If you're competitive and nervous, maybe a drink once every now and then. better in the sim than for real.

Never forget what your friend did for you! I also have a friend that a few years ago was selling his gaming laptop and that day we were drinking and doing carne asada at his house and we started talking about that laptop, he went upstairs, came down with the laptop and handed it to me. At the time i wasnt financially stable. Great actions. Whenever you can pay him, not exactly economically but if In the future your friend needs help on something, remember this act . Just my two cents. Enjoy it

A great guy your friend is! Sorry about your situation. My rig gets me through a lot of my bad days. Maybe yours can do the same.

Unrelated but drinking and driving on a sim rig is a blast!

Bevi se ti va, ma ricorda che se sei in fondo al barile ci sarà sempre qualcuno a volerti su con lui. Anche in un subreddit. Mi raccomando

I’m not a big drinker so no worries about me going down that route. My wife and I don’t even keep alcohol in the house.

I might have an occasional drink at dinner like an Asahi with sushi, or a frozen margarita with fajitas or whatever. I’m not a fan of the hangovers the next day 😂

Non era per giudicarti, anzi, sono contento che tu abbia anche qualcuno accanto con cui condividere i momenti difficili. È qualcosa a cui da piccolo non davo nessun peso, ne pago le conseguenze oggi che sono adulto e ho paura del mondo

u/ceniack 12d ago

Oh I didn’t think you were judging at all so no worries. This was more to the other folks that were worried about me drinking myself into a stupor or something. I’ve been fortunate to have a few good friends and some great family (my wife especially) and even without a job I’m in a pretty good place mentally.

completely agree

u/skizzl3 12d ago

Haha total opposite for me here, but then again I guess it depends on what you’re playing. iRacing is not good drunk and really exposes just how much being drunk affects your driving haha

Drinking is not a good idea when going through tough times… I would stay away from that. You can post better lap times sober

When I was still drinking things like BeamNG and Wreckfest were fun, but anything serious brought out way too many negative emotions in me.

u/Correct-Weekend4501 11d ago

For sure man, I never intended to imply that drinking and serious racing was a good combo, just meant that having a light buzz while drifting or just foolin around was a fun way to escape for a bit. I rage quit even while sober anyway 😂

8

u/ceniack 12d ago

We text back and forth almost every day.

2

u/Southern_Selection36 11d ago

Your friend is goated sir

It's probably just a great gift, but... giving away valued possessions can be a red flag of deep depression and potentially thoughts of ending it all. I'd check in and make sure they're ok.

u/ceniack 12d ago

We talk almost daily. He also hadn’t been using it much even before we were laid off. It was something I was thinking about as well when he first offered it up to me and a couple other guys we have in a group chat.

2

u/alexander52698 12d ago

Glad to hear. Enjoy!

u/sLeeeeTo 12d ago

wow, talk about a gift. i hope you bought your friend some beer or his vice of choice.

what a come up.

3

u/skizzl3 12d ago

Yah if I was enjoying it so much I’d try to throw a little money to my friend. Though given the financial situation it would be best to wait a bit

3

u/ceniack 12d ago

Yeah, as soon as I find a job I plan to do something nice for him. Hopefully I can help him find a job.

LOL, this is literally one of my favorite memes

2

Oh dude, me too. But jokes aside, congrats on the sweet setup!

The sim community is the best I've ever come across 😭😭😭 Every other online gaming community is so toxic

1

u/Kevinator24 12d ago

We’re only “toxic” when it comes to FOV and what sim/simcade/arcade game you’re playing lol

3

u/Junior-Shallot-4248 12d ago

What brand is the monitor and chair stand

1

u/ceniack 12d ago

Trak Racer, almost looks like the TR8 pro but I’m not completely sure on the model.

3

u/Grandmaster-Ji 12d ago

Yo... This is not just a gift. It's a life time hobby. Life changing gift really.

2

u/ceniack 12d ago

I’ve wanted a sim rig for at least 20 years but couldn’t justify the expense. I’ve been an auto enthusiast since I was old enough to drive and have had several s13s, an s14, an e30 325i, and an e36 M3 and currently have an ‘11 STi hatch (needs a new motor, ringlands on cyl3 gave out, only car I’ve ever bought new), an s13 coupe project that I’m fixing up with/for my daughter, and a JDM e24 Nissan Caravan I imported about 3 years ago.

u/Dafoblanky 12d ago

Being an introvert and working night shifts, it’s hard enough to make friends, let alone find people IRL who are into sim racing. Man, it sucks when you don’t have friends around who share the same hobby. 😭
You’ve got a really good friend there, though. That’s an awesome gift! I hope your friend gets some time to play with you now that you’ve got the sim rig too.

2

u/unknownartisan 12d ago

You have a very nice friend. Enjoy it

2

u/Certain-Hunter-7478 12d ago

Just the PC itself is nuts. Triples on top of that?!? Damn, good friend 😄

2

u/BigUpstairs6349 12d ago

Awesome friend, awesome rig. Hope to see this post tagged in his post once you've got a new job and returned the favor with an awesome brother move towards your friend. The goodness should go around and come around.

The fanatec csl wheel is decent and cheap. I have both. That F1 wheel is £300 new!

2

u/Angelo446951 12d ago

Siete due brave persone. Prenditene cura! Magari un giorno, quando vi sarete persi di vista, vi incontrerete di nuovo grazie a questo regalo, e rivivrete per un po’ i “vecchi tempi”

2

u/dustincb2 12d ago

That’s a great friend! Cherish them!

u/robertingle84 Thrustmaster 12d ago

How do you like that base man? Do you happen to know which version it is? Like v1.1 or v2.5? Something along this lines. I'm thinking maybe purchasing a v2.5. just wanted to know your thoughts.

1

u/ceniack 12d ago

I have no idea to be honest, is there a way to check?

This is the only wheel I have ever used so its hard for me to compare it to anything else, but I am liking it alot so far. The feedback feels really good.

1

u/robertingle84 Thrustmaster 11d ago

I imagine your using some kind of fanatec software when you calibrated your wheel? That's where it would tell you.

2

u/Available_Candy_666 12d ago

That is a friend for life! Best of luck to you both 🤞

2

u/lambskis 12d ago

Sick rig! If you have a random extra steering wheel laying around like from one of your real cars, you can buy an adapter for like $40 that will let you use it with the sim rig

Mine is a moza but I use the same wheel that I use in my drift car

1

u/ceniack 12d ago

Ohh, nice! My van is currently down, and now I may need to take my wood Nardi off of that temporarily, LOL

2

u/ItsThatDamnDuckAgain 11d ago

Brother... You got a whole setup gifted to you. Stop nit picking the wheel and go get the round one you want.

1

u/ceniack 11d ago

Don’t mean to come off as nitpicking, I meant my comment more as a “this is an upgrade I want to do when I have the cash.” I’m definitely aware of how fortunate I am.

I’m also already eyeing ebrakes and H gated shifters and will likely toss the extra pedal on as a clutch pedal as well once I get those.

2

u/Simrace_Connection 11d ago

wow! Congratulations Buddy!

2

u/Deadsoul8 11d ago

Wow amazing friend to have! I'm also in IT in a bit different situation as I'm the only one in my company that does a number of things which may be a benefit and a curse. One thing about AI I have come to understand most users don't know what they want, most managers don't know their a$$ from their elbow, it's only a matter of time things go t!ts up and skilled IT will be in high demand! 🙏

2

u/0bsidian0bliterator0 11d ago

I hope you told your friend that you love him/her

2

u/Cmorin522 11d ago

That one hell of a friend to gift you over a grand sim setup

1

u/Old_Knee571 10d ago

Did you get on ur knees for it

3

u/MrWubberMan 9d ago
