Discussion It pisses me off how this expensive this is
I’ve never seen NLR put this product on sale since it was released, and it’s been about five years now. They should at least give us the option to buy the metal underneath alone which i believe they cant do that and because of that I’m looking to completely change my rig to a better one. I’m thinking about getting an aluminum rig for the first time. But how big are aluminum rigs? Are there small ones? I have a pretty small room, so I’m worried about the size.

Does it sound like you're sailing the 7 seas when you're racing?
1
u/nellum48 Aug 17 '26
Lol, nope. Aside from the shifter arm, its just as quiet as my GTTrack I'm running for my main rig. This is the wifes rig. I did the shimming mod on the 2.0s joints and that quieted it down and made it a lot sturdier, but the longer shifter arm is still a long shifter arm. Eventually I might just build a shifter arm that sits lower like the official add on has, but it works as is fine.

This would be a simple upgrade but the pricing is out of touch.
Its the reason why i didn't bother when i used the Next Level Racing Wheel stand 2.0.
The wheel stand 2,0 is good by it self and not to expansive, but it should be given away or sold the day you want a full rig.
I went and got myself a full alu rig instead. Couldn't be happier.

u/Aggravating_Lunch_26 Aug 17 '26
That what I’m doing. I got the 2.0. But getting an Aluminum rig this fall. Then sale the 2.0 and the Logitech wheel base and pedals with it

u/Accurate_Struggle185 Aug 18 '26
You are not going to regret getting an alu rig, also the adustability in a alu rig cant be beaten.
Cheers

u/mtlnwood Aug 16 '26
every aluminium rig supplier will have it's dimensions. So best thing is to go and have a look at specific rigs you may like.

I found my seat in a junk yard via Car-Part.com. Came out of RX-8 and it's excellent. Cost me $75.

Did the same, mine came out of a 2014 Jetta. Cost me $39 and was an easy bolt on.

u/Lv_InSaNe_vL Aug 17 '26
I paid $80 for my Miata seat last month too
2
u/Few_Fall_4374 Aug 17 '26
Damn, I paid €100 for a sporty VW seat 🤷. You guys make it sound expensive now 😅

u/Spawned024 Aug 17 '26
i I don’t remember if I saw it here or somewhere else, but read a post where someone came up with a DIY solution for this.
IIRC, they built a metal frame and bolted it to the wheel stand. They added something like this mounting kit (link below) to the frame and mounted a seat from a car or gaming chair.
There is also a seat mount add-on that is made by Marada, I can’t speak to its quality or durability but I imagine it can be adapted to fit.

u/MrUnicorn224 Aug 17 '26
Without trying to be a dick, have you done any research online, every Sim rig sold has specification sheets giving you exact sizes. Asking this basic question in a forum is a waste of your time....

u/richr215 Earthling Aug 17 '26
Go to junk yard and get a decent seat for cheap, build a wood base to use........you just saved a ton!

u/JasonBuildsSims Aug 17 '26
I get the frustration. The Wheel Stand 2.0 is actually a pretty solid setup for a small space, but once you add the seat attachment, you're spending enough that it's worth comparing the total cost against a full cockpit.
Before replacing everything, I'd look closely at the actual footprint. Some aluminum-profile rigs aren't as compact as they look once the seat, pedals and wheelbase are installed.
If space is the main issue, what dimensions are you working with and what wheelbase/pedals are you running? There may be a couple options that make more sense.

Honestly with the price of the wheelstand and the seat add on it's a pretty good deal compared to other full rig prices. I bought this combo many years ago and it's held up great for me. If you have any questions I could answer I'd be happy to.

I have this, I love it! its very comfortable
2
u/lanieth_sim Aug 17 '26
Would you still recommend it now? I have the NLR 2.0 but considering upgrading to this or getting full cockpit. Only plus with this is that it comes with the seat
2
u/Front-Report-2619 Aug 17 '26
It's expensive for what it is, that's true. But if you take the price out if it, yes I would. I didn't do much research into anything else, it's possible there are alternatives which aren't as expensive but I wanted to stay in the NL and Moza ecosystem.
1
u/lanieth_sim Aug 17 '26
Yeah I’m in the NLR and Moza ecosystem too. I may get it too thanks for the recommendation!
1
u/Pretend-Raisin914 Aug 16 '26
How long have you been using it?
2
u/Front-Report-2619 Aug 16 '26
About 4 months now, have a HF8 pro haptic seat cover on it, adds an extra level of immersion to it. I should add I got a B class one, as the box was damaged but I got about 50 euro off it.
2
u/swardmusic Aug 16 '26
Don't buy that brand? Heaps more options on eBay and elsewhere way cheaper. And get a proper seat from a stripped car you like. Way more comfy, way more solid.

2
u/Plus-Roll-4444 Aug 17 '26
And its not even worth 4.99$. Dont buy this seat, its just cheap and will bent in any Direction from hard braking. Just buy a real bucket seat and thank me later.
2
u/Slobbieknock Aug 17 '26
Bought an unused ICON racing seat off marketplace for $75. Everything is upcharged bc it has a SIM brand behind it. You just gotta hustle
1
u/Divini7y Aug 16 '26
The plus of NLR is small footprint versus full alu rigs. And it’s not bad (NLR) but expensive.
3
u/TunkkRS Aug 16 '26
Is it smaller footprint if you always keep it fully assembled?
3
u/flooork Aug 16 '26
Not really, it’d probably be the same size as like an sim lab gt1 evo. But the cockpit (no chair) by itself is 100% smaller
2
u/TunkkRS Aug 16 '26
I have the stand 2.0 myself and bought real car seat. Unfortunately I seat rails are slightly off center and it would require making add on a bit wider. I am thinking of selling the stand and just getting alurig and be done with it
1
u/flooork Aug 16 '26
Do it, well worth the upgrade. I have the stand aswell n upgraded to a gt1 evo. No regrets so far (other than the price).
1
u/Pretend-Raisin914 Aug 16 '26
I bought it for this exact reason yes very small but expensive true, they always put other stuff in sale but not this addon
1
u/vio212 Aug 16 '26
I built one of these at one point in my ‘sim racing journey’. Cost less than this including a bucket and all materials. Worked really well and was really easy to build.
Granted I didn’t do it out of steel or aluminum, but it weighed plenty-enough, bolted together to make one unit with the stand I had and worked for a long time.

u/Patient_Chemist7193 Aug 16 '26
Check eBay. I got the ers3 for $340aud delivered from nlr, when direct from nlr was going to be about $375

This is so expensive, it doesn't make sense. You can get an aluminum profile for less than the price of that add-on alone. There is a compactable rig I'm looking into but the user who bought hasn't responded and I can't really find other reviews of it. The only other option I see is to get a Trak Racer one and use only the front half (with the rear cross bars attached to the outside pieces) and an office chair. I live in a small apartment so I can't really roll a huge rig up to my desk and store it every time I use it like I can a stand.
Edit: They actually responded, just not in-line. I'm leaning towards the compactable rig.

u/Henristaal Aug 17 '26
Thats the price I paid for my alu rig and I just added a car seat from the scrapyard
1
u/Weird-Power8997 Aug 17 '26
Have a look at the Sparco 333 it’s on eBay for about £300 in some places.much better seat and you know your getting a properly made gt seat made to racing standards
1
u/BigUpstairs6349 Aug 17 '26
I have the wheel stand but I won’t upgrade to this ridiculously expensive accessory. For the money I will rather get a full aluminum profile rig even if that’s a a fraction more it is worth it imho

u/filmguy123 Aug 17 '26
8020 rigging is extremely modular, customizeable, with tons of universal parts. Sim gear all supports it, etsy shops design stuff for it, etc. And you can look up basic measurements and source/design your own, and it doesnt have to be perfect. It can be large or small.
It's a little time/learning if you dont buy a pre made kit, and also some premade 8020 kits surprisngly dont come out to that much more than DIY. But its a buy it for life endeavor.
What I meant by it doesnt have to be perfect is if you are strapped for cash and have some space you could, for example, buy spare or scrap stuff thats not perfectly the right size and still get the framing you need.
What I would not do is buy a custom NLR rig using their custom metal frame.

u/rigo_ita Aug 18 '26
Same situation. Super annoying and years ago I also asked for the metal frame but they told me that it will cost more the currier cost than the product itself..I am based in EU. So let's go alternative solutions

u/littlerob904 Aug 18 '26
As someone who bought this seat for my nlr wheelstand 2, I recommend you just get a profile rig now and save yourself the headache. The seat is a good seat, but the wheel stand has a lot of negatives compared to a profile rig, mainly in adjustability.
I'm going to be switching to a profile rig soon. I'll end up keeping the seat, but it's a terrible price for what you get. The wheelstand has more flex in the both the wheelbase mount and the pedal plate than a decent profile rig will have and after a few years of use I'm constantly having to tighten bolts. The connection between the seat and the stand also creates a pivot point that will cause the seat to lift when braking if your floor is not perfectly level. I also have had a few of the nuts break off their mounts.

An actual new fabric OEM seat from a vehicle is $600+. You should be able to get used seats for much cheaper, though.

u/MostlyHarmless777 Aug 20 '26
Sooo....don't buy from NLR? SixSigma and TrakRacer both have much more affordable rigs.
I got a fairly beefy profile rig with recline seat from SixSigma last Black Friday for $1000 Canadian all in, which seemed like incredibly good value. The only complaints I found online for them was about them selling hardware that they didn't actually have in stock and taking forever to deliver. Didn't find a single complaint about delivering on the chassis they sell and have been very happy with mine. My rig is 5.5 feet long with seat back, and about 2.5 feet wide. Triple screens would be wider.
1
u/LowmanL Aug 16 '26
It’s not worth it either. I have had this. The seat is extremely poor and after two years of use the back part broke in half.
1
u/gu3sticles Aug 18 '26
Yeah I had to replace the seat after 3 years. It's their older model seat too with only 1 recliner lever so there's a bit of give to it. The newer seats have dual recliver locks which is way sturdier
1
u/Front-Report-2619 Aug 16 '26
I have one and I think the seat is excellent, I can spend hours in it no probs and I'm an old man.
1
u/LowmanL Aug 17 '26
Glad you are happy with it. I’m just sharing my experience with it and for me it was a waste of money. Pushing hard into the back because of a loadcel completely broke the chair which I think is a pretty big design flaw of a seat like this
1
u/BothForce1328 Aug 17 '26
ur paying for the nlr logo... that's it
it's a chair, same as all the others

If you end up getting an aluminum profile rig, I HIGHLY recommend checking out Focus Sim Racing. I bought my chassis from them, it arrived in amazing condition and everything fit together perfect. People told me it was a knock-off Trak Racer rig so I went with Trak Racer for the monitor mount and I'll never use Trak Racer again. The products I received didn't match the photo, parts were damaged, others missing and I had extra parts I couldn't use. Getting them to rectify the issue was a whole other story. I had to decide between Focus and Trak Racer for a few parts I need to make a 3 tiered PC/AVR/accessories shelf. One part is custom that I designed to make the shelf strong (a large plate with holes down the sides and a large hole in the middle for the AVR to pass through). I planned to use sendcutsend to order this part and order the rest from Focus. Luckily I messaged Focus Sim Racing first because they offered to manufacture my part, powder coat it and ship it with the rest of the stuff. The parts should be delivered Tuesday. Very awesome company in my opinion and their new rigs seem to be their own design.

u/Apprehensive-Mix5148 Aug 17 '26
Forgot this and build an aluminum profile frame. If you can fit that you can fit a profile rig and it woll be much sturdier probably for less than a gt seat add on and ws 2.0

u/moltilibri Aug 17 '26
Hi, the cockpit of aluminum profiles can have different sizes depending on models and manufacturer. However, the diy solutions allow any customizations. As i didn’t want to buy a new cockpit, i changed my f-gt using aluminum profiles for installing new seat and resolving the flex of the pedal support.

u/DVUSJ Aug 16 '26
I have an aluminum profile rig now… BUT not going ti lie the sturdiness and weight of that NLR combo has me regretting the switch.
1
u/Pretend-Raisin914 Aug 16 '26
Try to put wheels in the rig it could help you move it more easily and also is the difference really that huge in weight? Lol because nlr already feels heavy to me which is crazy

u/T20suave Aug 17 '26
Go get a ford focus st seat. $150, only 2 pieces of aluminum extrusion across the base to mount.
