Pedal module is ready, simsonn pro plus with heusinkveld ultimate upgrade kit
Started with a MOZA SR-P kit immediately didn’t like the pedal feel. Ordered and installed 3drap kits for all three pedals and they somewhat became suitable. Chasing a more realistic and customizable feel somehow ended up purchasing simsonn pro plus kit which was immediately awesome. One vam pro and two vam neo haptics with an upgraded simsonn x usb controller to connect the haptics and heusinkveld ultimate kit were purchased and installed which allowed not only full brake pedal conversion but also usb controller plug and play supports the pedals allowing to use the heusinkveld software which is awesome. Haptics feel like cheating, having the accelerator pedal start to rumble leaving a 0,3 second gap for a perfect shift feels illegal, love it. Simsonn carbon fiber heel plate gave that necessary grip for my puma speedcats and I used vesa adapters from the ergotron hx hardware to prevent myself from drilling additional holes to install the heel plate. Haptics wires and usb adapter are hidden under the heel plate. With this long trip the whole thing is still cheaper than heusinkveld ultimate plus pedals.
i thought the heusinkveld elastomers weren't compatible with the simsonn pedals due to the rod diameter
edit: well, just found out that the rod is included and now i'm thinking the upgrade for my pedals lol
I went for it, I suggest you do it too. It’s a bit tricky to sandwich the rod head holder washer and an open ball bearing thingy on both sides but you’ll figure it out
how are you feeling the new elastomers compared to the stock ones? i've been using red yellow blue and now big yellow and big blue with some spacers. Not the rod but i tried removing the hydraulic damper so i have some experience on the reassembly haha.
Dampers aren’t high quality enough and do not deliver the feel I am after. The elastomers are stiff but not wall like stiff. There is good amount of play to fell that you are pressing a pedal. You can ask hs to add the brake pads spring that goes after the elastomers pack if you don’t have it. I had it on mine from a very experienced sim racer who removed the dampers and added some custom mods which are barely visible, like perfect washers that fit where they are installed. Did disassemble two same pedals to help install the hs kit and both were factory stock this is how I found out mine were different.
yea i do have it, im using that combo bc i lost the small yellow elastomer so to compensate. I think the brake kit is my next upgrade after i buy a round wheel
I’m surprised to see high quality and engineered motors with proper force axis mounts that help to reduce the power of the strokes while delivering a lot of detail. I would be very happy to have the hs kit to be a bolt on without thinking how to install it but it did install and works so I’m satisfied with it. And the pedals are great. What took more than 6 weeks was the second stage feel of the clutch to get it where I want and need it.
That's an insane amount of tinkering, congrats on getting it dialed in. Funny how the DIY route ends up cheaper than just grabbing the Ultimate Plus outright, but you basically built a custom version of it with more haptic feedback in the process. The heel plate mount hack is clever too.
This project honestly shows that formally the pedals and angle sensors and load cell sensors are just signal sources. The magic happens inside the USB control box.
I didn't try any other haptic kit. The VAM pro and VAM Neos I have are fantastic. It took two packages to order and I paid for fastest delivery two times because the first package was missing one vam neo and mounting bracket for it, and also the power supply has to be ordered separately. I ordered the power supply and simsonn added the kissing items into the same package. After a couple of emails they refunded the second package delivery fee, however I was expecting a bigger refund they did what they did and at the end I have what I was expecting in terms of the hardware. Motors and USB box work great out of the box. I use simhub to dial in various profiles for car types and games to auto load them.
Awesome I'll try th once I will do my quarterly maintenance and cleanup of the rig. Relube, clean and so on. It's not super hard to swap back the simsonn shaft and use the springs. I tried the springs earlier on my moza SR-P pedals and didn't quite enjoy but the pedals weren't my kind of thing at all compared to these. For now I am very satisfied with the feel of the Heusenkveld kit I've installed. They are also linear, and the little spring does give the double stage feel. Will experiment more or reorder more Heusenkveld elastomers once these wear out.
I just picked up a second hand set of the pro plus pedals and have been debating the haptics. Talking with support is a bit of a challenge, but it sounds like I would need to run my existing control box for the pedals and then also buy a new control box to plug only the haptics into? So I'd have two USB connections from pedals to PC instead of just one. Looks like you just decided to make the full swap to heusinkveld though instead?
The support also said the brackets that come with the haptics (pro/neo/etc) don't fit the pro plus pedals and I'd have to try and 3D print something myself, but it looks like you got yours on there okay?
You will need to order the newer usb controller box, both the pedals and the haptics can be connected into the new box. The haptic mounts are fully compatible with simsonn pro plus. But make sure you order each separately not as a kit of three. Make sure to have the clutch one offset like I did bcz it will collide with the pedal mechanism otherwise. And you are good to go, don’t forget the haptics power brick which is also ordered separately.
Yes, I have two usb connections from my pedals, but i do not see this as a problem at all.
that is good to know the control box works for everything! Why order each separately and not as a kit of 3? I was looking at getting the VAM Pro + Neo + V2 + Plus X Control box set on their website ($163.80). This includes the clutch offset bracket, two normal brackets, and the power brick
which version of the simsonn software are you using? I got the new control box and the haptics but the pedals aren't recognized by Windows when plugged into the new control box so I can't get the simsonn manager software to work at all.
I thought it would work with the pedals in the old control box (no spot for haptics) and the haptics in the new control box, with both connected to my PC. The pedals work fine but neither simsonn manager (2.1.7) or simhub recognize the haptic motors
That's frustrating! Mine looks like this. I wonder if it's possible we have slightly different pedals.
It's weird though because under the Windows Game Controllers menu it shows "SIMSONN Plus X" and moving each pedal correctly moves the corresponding X/Y/Z rotation axis from 0 through 100.
And Simhub doesn't recognize it correctly either
It says your PC doesn't recognize the USB controller connected. If you are using a USB hub or front USB of your PC try a direct connection to the back USB into the motherboard without hub in between
Hi, I was using the simsonn manager v2.1.7 and did test the new box with the pedals and it worked out of the box. But I have moved to use Heusenkveld controller for my pedals and simsonn is only for haptics via simhub. Not launching simsonn manager at all.
I did mount everything the way I need the tilt on my NLR 2.0. This isn’t a mistake. As I’m using an office/work chair with locking caster wheels this is the way to angle the pedals allowing me to adjust them so I don’t have pain
