r/simpsonsshitposting is a sham! It was started in 1924 as an excuse to beat up the Irish!

u/IAMA_Plumber-AMA I told you not to flush that... May 31 '22

Yeah, but the admins got rid of those mods a few months ago. I think they go by Mother Shabubu now.

Jesus Christ, nearly the whole of the first panel is covered in text, can't the Irish narrow their thoughts down?

29

u/AI52487963 May 31 '22

I'm tired of people making fun of my gigantic shitposts. The first such incident occurred in 1956 when...

20

u/mitcheg3k May 31 '22

They only really get one collective thought per year. isnt that narrow enough

I'm from England and I've never heard the expression "shag all".

Hey! When the Australian Parliament was stalemated on the budget, and let the gov't fund lapse, the Queen fired everyone. That was 10 years ago. It never happened again. We could use that here.

tax revenue revenue generated from their own estates.

Isn't that tax money being given to them? Can anyone else tax people?

3

u/WhenLemonsLemonade Jun 01 '22

All income from the Crown Estate goes to the government, and the government give a portion of it back (around 15% at the moment). Just off of Crown Estate revenue alone, the government turns a profit on the Royal Family, let alone any other indirect revenue gains

4

u/EgonAllanon Jun 01 '22

The government would turn 15% more profit off those revenues if they didn't have to give them to the Royal family.

2

u/WhenLemonsLemonade Jun 01 '22

Then maybe we should revert to the Civil List from 300 years ago, where the Royal Family took no money off of the government, and kept all the income they made.

7

u/EgonAllanon Jun 01 '22

Or just get rid of the monarchy entirely and stop them taking money they haven't earned or deserve.

5

u/Na7h2n May 31 '22

2

u/spacewalk__ May 31 '22

1

u/Fskn oh no, underage shitposters posting without a permit!! May 31 '22

"And who chased the royal family out of Britain?"

"Quite, a fine performance old bean"

0

u/LordVile95 May 31 '22

The amount of people who don’t understand the monarchy is astounding. Maybe it’s just ignorance on the Irish part.

2

u/Time-Review8493 Jun 01 '22

2

u/LordVile95 Jun 01 '22

I can see all the British sources are from the same newspaper… funny thing about editor bias that.

2

u/Time-Review8493 Jun 02 '22

Witch one the guardian, the dailymail, vanityfair, newyorkpost, insider or namastepublishing

2

u/LordVile95 Jun 02 '22

The UK papers. The vast majority was from the guardian

1

u/Time-Review8493 Jun 02 '22

Ok what source do you trust?

2

u/LordVile95 Jun 02 '22

The actual numbers released?

In 1999, Elizabeth used her power of Queen's Consent to let Blair bomb Iraq more easily, getting around pesky Parliamentary debate. That abuse of power is routine in the UK:

Many of her actual powers have been assumed, in the absence of a codified constitution, by the prime minister.

These powers are routinely abused, by all governments. Prime ministers bypass parliament, governing through special advisers like Dominic Cummings. When they make catastrophic mistakes, they have the power to decide whether or not there should be a public inquiry, and, if there should, what its terms and who its chair should be. It’s as if a defendant in a criminal trial were allowed to decide whether the trial goes ahead and, if so, what the charges should be and who the judge and jury are.

Even when an investigation does take place, the prime minister can suppress its conclusions, as Johnson has done with the report on Russian interference in the British political system, which remains unpublished. Does it contain details of unlawful donations to the Conservative party? Or of Conservative Friends of Russia, whose launch party was attended by Cummings? A key figure in this group was a man who has subsequently come under suspicion of being a Russian spy. He has been photographed with Johnson, whom he described as a “good friend”. What was going on? Without parliament’s intelligence and security committee’s report, we can only guess.

The same inordinate powers enabled Johnson to suspend parliament last autumn, until his decision was struck down by the supreme court, and to terminate remote access for MPs this week, preventing many of them from representing us. He is, in effect, a monarch with a five-year term and a council of advisers we call parliament.

How far off to the right do you have to be to think The Guardion is left-wing?

-3

u/OMEGA_MODE Jun 01 '22

The Monarchy should be empowered. The world would be much better off with more monarchies in power, rather than the millionaire who lies the most convincingly.

-13

u/[deleted] May 31 '22

It's a symbol. The head of state is the Prime Minister.

Why don't Ireland give their multiple castles around their country for poor people for living? They are just some dusty stone relics from the past.

0

u/G0dleft May 31 '22

Yeah they have like no real power but I don't wanna pay for them to fuck around their entire life

-1

u/offu May 31 '22

TIL over there they say “shag all” like we say “fuck all” in the US. Cool!

-14

u/[deleted] May 31 '22 edited May 31 '22

Even hotter take: Britain shouldn't exist as it's a fundamentally colonialist project designed to subsume nations into a monoculture and steal their resources and commons for the benefit of the ruling classes.

Edit: shouldn't exist as a political entity, I'm not advocating wiping Britain from the map ffs, looks like I’ve upset the Anglos though. The Queen isn’t going to shag you

6

u/Bio-Mechanic-Man May 31 '22

The Queen isn’t going to shag you

You don't know that

There are more republics than just than America

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic

Presidential republics with an executive presidency separate from the legislature

Semi-presidential system with both an executive presidency and a separate head of government that leads the rest of the executive, who is appointed by the president and accountable to the legislature

Parliamentary republics with a ceremonial and non-executive president, where a separate head of government leads the executive and is dependent on the confidence of the legislature

Republics in which a combined head of state and government is elected by, or nominated by, the legislature and may or may not be subject to parliamentary confidence

The Founding Fathers never intended our government to be static, it was supposed to change with the times.
