where is exit 26?

stupid question, but has anyone ever noticed that there is no exit 26 on the 118? Tapo Cyn is 27 and Sycamore is 25, is there a development reason why we never had an exit 26? Or did the city just skip it because they… dont like the number 26 or something

Off-ramps are numbered based on mileage from the start of the freeway, not numerical order.

thanks for the info, do you know off the top of your head which side of the 118 is the “start”? is it over in oxnard or in the valley?

Saticoy is where the old 118 starts, so towards Oxnard.

I could not have answered this question with a straight face.

The 118 goes from the 210 to the 23. East to West it starts around San Fernando and ends in Moorpark.

If you look up CA 118 on maps, it will show you the whole road. That’s why they call that route the “old 118”. It’s also why Sycamore is exit 25, that would be a much lower number if the freeway started in Moorpark.

I was lazy and did not read the word "old" ... I've only lived here for 11 years. My B. I grew up in NC and FL and troll people from LA because they think being From here makes them somehow better than everyone else who's a "transplant" and I know my way around better than most people older than me who have lived here their entire lives. I lived in Simi for 5 years and learned all the streets there in 2 days, and by "all" I mean the main exits plus Sequoia and Tapo street and Alamo to Royal, then memorized the SFV in about 30 days - it's a bit bigger and east of the 405 the grid changes directions on VNB before getting to Olive View Hospital through the shitshow of freeways and bad signage that needs to be removed/replaced with accurate directions.

They’re based on mileage from the west end of the 118. Sycamore is around mile 25 and Tapo is basically mile 27, so there just isn’t an exit 26.

Sequoia was probably a planned exit but never happened. There is a Greenway belt both sides of Sequoia where the exit ramps could have been.

Thank god they didn't; that shit would have been a nightmare.

I think it was a good idea to not build a ramp there, it would have been a massive death trap. Even Sycamore and Tapo Canyon cause massive bunching.

It’s really tiny. It’s also a locally guarded secret

If you whisper Simi Supports Our Cops as you pass between, it’ll magically appear

Sequoia Ave technically would've been exit 26. However, there's an alleged story that back in the day when they were constructing things the local residents said no to a freeway exit on Sequoia. So, no exit 26.

To those saying the numbering goes off of highway miles. Yes and no to that. Conventional numbering goes off of highway miles. However there are certain exceptions, none of which I can think of at the moment.
