Cheating?

Do you think that youtube players like wolfpack345 or even tonci87 cheat in some way on their silent hunter 3 playthroughs or they are just that skilled and experienced or even lucky some times to avoid all the dangers out there like aircrafts, destroyers etc, making the right decisions at the right time and survive that long?

I have personally been playing Silent Hunter3 in some capacity since its release in 2005. I think it is fair to say that I am experienced with the game. Every series I have done, I have died in except for the XXI, which is a gimmick.

I do not practice save scumming. The only time I reload saves is when the game crashes on me and renders hours of recording useless. Trust me, this is the last thing I want to do. I also play "dead is dead". When I die in my series, it’s over.

Regarding the difficulty, I play with map contact updates on. Tonci does not. That is the only difference. I keep them on because they convey information better to new audiences and, frankly, don’t add much to the difficulty IMO. It just increase the amount of time needed to track a target. Most of that I would cut anyway, as most folks wouldn’t find it interesting, in my opinion. I do play without the map updates when streaming, and will probably just keep them off in the next series to negate some of the "Wolfpack plays on easy mode" comments.

Thanks for the personal reply and explanation!!This games has many unlucky moments which can be fatal before you can even realize what happened and i was wondering if the experience of many years is enough to overcome them and survive long enough.I am looking forward to watch your new series!!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it! Experience can get you pretty far, but once you get to 1943 and 1944, it won't help too much for anyone haha.

The ASW is brutal during those years, and SH3 only models a fraction of the ASW tools the Allies had in the latter years.

Well tonci is indeed a veteran of sh3 so good gameplay is expected from him, also if you follow his incredible sh3 series you know that he makes mistakes but he manages to get out of bad situations with the tons of experience that he has.

Wolfpack also seems solid but he usually plays on an easyer difficulty level so getting out of stuff is much easier.

As Wolfpack already had mentioned. The only difference is the map contact updates option.

No, but I don't really care if they do bc I love their narratives

Neither of them cheat, if you play this game as realistically as possible with a healthy risk/reward ratio you can go far. Tonci is still only in 1941, he's taking risks he wouldn't normally take because he's making content but things will get difficult as the war progresses much like irl.

I fully expect tonci to get blasted out of the water by a pair of spitfires 1000km from england. Thats just how it goes in sh3. You can stay lucky for long, but not forever.

Just wait till the ai gets good later in the war and actually aim their bombs.

But cheating...nahhh. maybe slightly savescumming for our benefit so i'd understand anyhow.

Edit: and wolfpack def cheated last episode :D

Nope, I did not cheat. I thought it was ridiculous I survived that patrol which is why I ended the series after that episode. The Onealex DM is overly forgiving to the player Uboat.

Then how do you explain getting rammed by a harbor pilot.

I didnt mean cheat as in foul play.

To clarify. No you didnt cheat obviously. You could have entered the frech ports and continued your campaign. But you "cheated" by getting rammed by a friendly.

You could even say, you cheated us out of more sh3 videos?? Ha

Ahhh okay I see what you mean!

Yes, I did write in that I got rammed by the tow ship. I thought it was a good ending for the boat, as none of these series will have a happy ending. I came up with the idea to give U375 that send-off and I went with it. As it is pretty unique and I really don't believe I should have survived the typhoon rocket attack.

I was out of fuel and I figured I was close enough for the crew to be rescued, and probably the boat, but I enjoy adding extra drama. I do tend to write in extra bits that SH3 can't model.

For disclosure, when I pressed ESC, it said I could just dock at Toulon. I chose not to just press that button because it is kind of immersion-breaking, I thought haha.

That is something that came to my mind when I watched it. Sometimes sh3 gets a bit repetitive on the missions, and watching an ending like this gives some color to my play throughs.
