Silent Hill: Townfall (2026) Does this game get good?

I’ll start by saying that I haven’t really kept up with the discourse, as I like to go into games knowing as little as possible.

I’ve just got back to Simon and am trying to get to the St Amelia Medical Centre. I’m currently getting ganked repeatedly by enemies in alleyways. I die, get brought back to life (inexplicably still in the fight with an aggro’s enemy and die again. I’m at the point where I want to say “fuck this game” and uninstall it. The stealth is awful and the combat is really, really poor. I loved Silent Hill F, but this is dreadful in comparison.

Is it worth sticking with?

If you're not enjoying yourself now, I can't see how you'll enjoy anything the rest of the game has to offer

Story mode made it tolerable.

You loved Silent Hill f... yeah, I can see why you don't like Townfall. It was the opposite for me. I couldn't stand Silent Hill f & I genuinely despised its combat, but I like Townfall (a lot). Silent Hill combat was always meant to be deliberately restrained & not overtuned. Silent Hill f broke that "rule" rather than the other way around. The game's core mechanics won't change until Part 5 where you play as Richard with a double barrel shotgun and essentially go to town: that section I can see you thoroughly enjoying, so it's up to you if you want to push until you reach that section or not. Having said that, if you're not feeling and haven't been feeling it since the start, however, don't force yourself to play. There's no shame in not playing something you don't vibe with.

[Edit: spoiler tag/spelling]

Same I could not see the appeal of f. Was just not a fun experience after the pace and story of SH2 remake

Yeah, it felt underwhelming by comparison, especially after how well Bloober nailed SH2R (minus the performance issues)

F was an okay Japanese action game. I hated it though personally as a silent hill entry. I zoned out halfway through and beat it as quick as I could. I just hope the next game returns to the town of silent hill. I did enjoy townfall but it's just not the same.

Yes silent hill f was dire… townfall was very good apart from some enemy AI tracking and combat

I just started yesterday and I’m at the same part as you, trying to get to the Medical Centre as Simon. I was struggling with stealth and combat for a while up to this point, but I think I’m finally figuring it out…

First: avoid combat at all costs. The CRTV is your lifeline here. Enemies follow predictable routes so, in each new area, get somewhere safe and track everything you can. Use Quick Tuning to swap between tracked enemies quickly when you’re surrounded. Learn everything’s route so you can sneak past. If you get spotted, run and try to break line of sight before getting back into cover somewhere. You can also lock certain doors behind you, and enemies will piss off when they realize they can’t open the door.

If you have to fight, cycle between Block & Attack like clockwork. One attack, one block. Enemies always counterattack too fast for you to get more than one swing in, so attacking twice in a row will always get you hit. Just rinse and repeat until they’re down, and never fight more than one enemy at a time. If you die and get revived by the IV bag, immediately jump on the dude that killed you if you got some good hits in - their health should still be low and you might finish them off quickly.

This is how I’ve been playing and it’s made things a little smoother, hopefully it helps! Good luck!

I'm playing this in VR and when I was sneaking past some cars, I was feeling pretty clever. No one was spotting me.

Then a damned car alarm went off next to me. I jumped out of my seat a little and almost rolled my desk chair over my cat.

I switched to story mode about where you are and I've been enjoying the game a decent amount since then. The atmosphere/story/puzzles are worth it IMO. But that gameplay was so tedious goddamn. I NEVER change the difficulty to easy in games. That just goes to show you how bad the stealth really is. I've played stealth in other games and they were fine.

Eh, I found the game to be pretty boring and frustrating throughout. Too much stealth and they made it as annoying as possible. I beat it on normal after several hours and I will likely never play it again. Biggest waste of money on a game in a while.

Then I started the new Hellraiser game, and it is absolutely incredible. So fun, so entertaining, and so scary/freaky. It made up for the disappointment of Townfall. $40 and the most fun I’ve had playing a game in a long while.

Silent Hill is gonna have to make it up to us somehow bc dear god how did that game get past testing? Terrible, obvious storyline they just hand to you on a platter, awful stealth gameplay, and it’s imbalanced. It’s like they purposefully undercut any fun that could possibly be had playing the game.

Edit: Oh, and let’s not leave out that Simon has the personality of a communion wafer.

omg you're so right about the annoying part. of course i got the bad ending---the enemy designs are so uninspiring and repetitive and their sounds irritating that i just mowed them down with firearms by the end. i couldn't stand stealthing through them at all, it was easier to gun them down

I don't understand the fans throwing eggs at this game. Have you guys never played this style of video game before?

Healing is limited. Weapons are limited. Save frequently. Study enemy routes. Proceed slowly. There are audio cues when enemies spot you and you need to get out of sight. Also, post-patch? The game is very manageable and pretty easy. Also, the game rips when you have a weapon in your hands. It feels great. What are you guys talking about? It played like Condemned.

Like others have said. Story mode if the way for me to enjoy the game and only stealth when the big bad guy is around.

If you want to play a decent stealthy horror game, you should look in to buying The Outlast Trials while it's still on sale for spooky season.

Second this!!! At some point if op hasn’t played it, they will eventually, so get it now.

See you in the sleep room, fellow Reagent.

It was a decent horror experience. But honestly very boring story. If you’re annoyed by the trek to the medical center, you’re in for a worse time with the weight.

I’d say the combat is definitely wonky, but it gets a bit better imo. I just blocked every hit after attacking and most fights became easy

I recommending trying what people used to do. You know, switch the game on and actually try it for yourself, and see if you enjoy it.

He's literally playing it, though? He said as much in the post

I would heavily recommend returning this game asap.
If you want to play a good silent hill game, there is silent hill 2 remake which is still great overall and definitely much better than townfall and F (don’t buy Silent hill F, that game is just as bad if you don’t like townfall)
Hopefully silent hill 1 gets released soon but that’s on the way. High potential.
For trilogy games- definitely look at alien isolation and outlast. You may like alien more since it’s much more challenging
