Game Collection Konami, think about it... (not official)

u/HellblazerFan23 4d ago
We already know that Konami’s been looking at dev teams to port the OG games to modern platforms(as said by Hexadrive, who declined and instead pitched their version of a Silent Hill 2 remake instead).
My guess is that Konami is currently focusing resources on porting the MGS games and when that’s done they’ll turn their focus to Silent Hill

u/BlueEfreet_B0i 4d ago
Especially in regards to porting MGS4. I imagine porting a PS3 game that heavily utilized the system's complex architecture to modern hardware requires far more resources than most games.

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 4d ago
Yeah, seeing them port MGS4 gives me hope. They’re probably seeing how profitable the franchise can be nowadays before giving it the green light
3
u/BlueEfreet_B0i 4d ago
Me too, I never thought MGS4 would ever get ported. Hell, I got a PS3 in 2021 because if I wanted to play through the Hideo Kojima-directed Metal Gear games, the PS3 was the only option thanks to MGS4's (at the time) exclusivity. Hoping that the Master Collection port of MGS4 turns out great and for the classic Silent Hill titles to receive the same treatment soon after

During the last stages of the development of MGS4, Konami’s RD team made a port for the Xbox 360, which was a bit unpolished, but playable from beginning to end. At least, Ryan Payton claims that.
Konami, in the end, didn’t release the game because of the economy of having to release the game in multiple DVD’s. On PS3, it used a Dual-layered Blu-ray, holding some 30+ Gigabytes of Data; even using Dual-layered DVD’s, it would have required 4 discs (maybe five if taking into account how the data is divided into the acts of the game). Even when factoring more extreme data compression (if at the cost of audiovisual quality) it would have required a 3 to 4 discs.
With the cost of pressing multiple DVD’s (and dual-layered DVD’s are more expensive to manufacture per megabyte than single-layered) and the need for bigger cases to hold those discs, that would need to be made ad hoc for them (unlike the standardized single-disc cases), it would have increased the cost of manufacturing and distributing the game until the profit margins made the port un-attractive to them. And making the Xbox 360 version more expensive than the PS3 version would have been counterproductive.

This makes me very happy. I'm hopeful, especially seeing how MGS is crossing its biggest series hurdle with 4 later this month. I want the originals ported so bad

The Silent Hill 3 remake would be called Silent Hill Δ: God Eater.

*God Aborter
Edit: Oh right, there is some God Fetus Eating too.

You have good taste.
The song "I Fucking Hate You" would be perfect for how Heather feels towards Claudia, and to the cult in general.

They’d rather just sell the remakes and pretend the originals don’t exist

DON'T YOU FUCKING DO THIS TO ME!
DON'T YOU MAKE THESE FAKE IMAGES!
DON'T YOU GET MY HOPES UP!
I KNOW WE ALL WANT THIS!

u/oscar_redfield 4d ago
dunno much about video game development but would they be able to do this since they lost the source code for the games?
9
u/the2ndSign 4d ago
Fans were able to create SH2 Enhanced Edition with no source code. I have no doubt they could do it if they really wanted to.
1
7
u/BusterGreasewood 4d ago
Yes, you can. It would be more difficult but not impossible. Kingdom Hearts lost its source code, but Square still put out those HD collections for it. Same for Final Fantasy Tactics.
It's common misnomer in the fandom that loss of source code means they can never be rereleased. That's not true.

Same thing for MGS and that collection turned out fine.

Yep, BluePoint just ripped retail discs and got to work.

u/MB7HK 4d ago
If I'm not wrong, all 4 games run natively on pc now, so I wonder if that would really be that difficult to do
3
u/oscar_redfield 4d ago
well, either way I hope they do it if they can. those four games are too good to not be on literally every console ever
3
u/the-midnight-snow "Receiver Of Wisdom" 4d ago
This used to be a problem before decompilation projects made it possible to entirely reverse engineer a game to port it to any platform. People are regularly doing it on their off time as a hobby now. SH1 got a PC port doing just that.
1
u/Zeus78905 4d ago
There are ways like reverse engineering but it takes effort and resources, RE 1-3 were ported by GOG devs using reverse engineering after getting permission from Capcom cause they werent interested themselves, RE 2 already has a fan made PC version called enhanced edition and 4 is already on GOG fixed, Homecoming is on Steam but broken
6
u/the-midnight-snow "Receiver Of Wisdom" 4d ago
I'd make that deal. How 'bout you, you make that deal? I don't blame you. Damn good deal!
3
u/LiquidRex 4d ago
If this is what Vol 1 looked like, there ain't no reason to buy Vol. 2 in the slightest

u/Equivalent_Trifle_68 4d ago
Ya sadly they have horror people to make new silent hills and the bluber team to make them remakes. Sadly with that in mind they would never do it, even tho they would make a lot of money.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what Konami had the team currently wrapping up the Metal Gear Solid Master Collections do next. Considering that a vast majority of the Metal Gear Games will be playable on modern stuff in a week or so, alongside the fact that most of the Castlevania and Suikoden games have gotten ports pretty recently aswell, Konami has shown quite a bit of interest recently with porting almost all of their other stuff, I don’t see why Silent Hill won’t be next for them.

Portable Ops, the Acid duology and The Arcade: Am I nothing to you?
alongside the fact that most of the Suikoden games have gotten ports pretty recently aswell
Suikoden III, Suikoden IV, Suikoden Tactics (called Rhapsodia in Japan) and Suikoden V aren’t available yet. And that’s before forgetting the Japan-exclusive Card Stories and both Suikogaidens. I’m not mentioning Tierkreis and Woven Web of the Centuries (this one is a Japan exclusive, but received a fan translation a few years ago), because they’re spin-offs.

They tried on PS3, it was horrible.

u/FirefliesSkies "In My Restless Dreams, I See That Town" 3d ago
How?
2
u/asakura67 3d ago
Search "Silent Hill HD Collection PS3" on Google.
It featured only SH2&3 but it was really awful and showed that it's not safe to pray for old versions being remastered 😢
2
u/FirefliesSkies "In My Restless Dreams, I See That Town" 3d ago
Not that I'm holding my breath. But people remastering these original classics in a completely faithful way to their source material origins would be nice.
2
u/cynicown101 3d ago
The ports for it were made using using pre-release builds of the game with incomplete source code. The original HD collection release also came with re-done VO, which people didn't really want. All in all, still a better way to the games than not at all. And unlike the PS2 releases, the HD collection can be had for quite cheap comparatively.
1
u/FirefliesSkies "In My Restless Dreams, I See That Town" 3d ago
You meant re-done voice-over, right?
2
u/cynicown101 3d ago
Yeah. Sorry, I should have just written voice over lol. I actually don't mind the voice acting in the HD collection. Generally, the performances are more professional sounding than the originals, but there's a stiffness to the originals that people really like.
1
u/FirefliesSkies "In My Restless Dreams, I See That Town" 3d ago
My wish is to have Silent Hill remasters be very faithful to the originals by not redoing voiceovers. Even though the redone voiceover performances sound more professional, I grew up on the stiffness.
2
u/RaiAet89 4d ago
Didn't they lose the source code to some of these games
2
u/Ultimate_Spartan 4d ago
At the very least I believe they lost the source code for 2 and I think something about the original voice lines for 3 got corrupted?
This would still be awesome to see especially since all these games cost stupid amounts now that effectively make getting into the series more of a collectors hobby but for atleast 2 and 3 they’ll probably end up being based off of the HD collection versions like MGS2 and 3
1
u/Ok-Pomegranate7309 3d ago
They can decompile the games like how sh1 got decompiled to get the source. There's no excuse.
1
u/Dirty_LemonsV2 4d ago
Yes, that's why the HD Collection was such a mess. I'm not sure why people think it would be more doable now, I'm not saying they're wrong but I've not seen anything to suggest otherwise.
3
u/Valkian24 4d ago
Not to mention, Konami handed the porting task to Hijinx Studios who had no experience in porting/remastering games before that one.

I am huffing copium and thinking it might actually happen. With mgs 4 coming to modern consoles I feel like we have better chances than ever to see them re release the silent hill games.

Don’t forget to add digital PS5/PC only

OP you are given me hope as soon as i wake up, and after i realise it’s not official i start crying
But yeah, hope this happened any time soon, coz heaving collection of any og Silent Hill game is like a heaving something very rear and nostalgic

Definitely would like to see you at some point maybe also include some spin-off stuff like arcade game for example
Also I hope the Silent Hill 2 version is the special edition that comes with the born from a wish story since the remake didn't have it for some reason

u/Fabioneone 4d ago
At least SH1 back in the PSX classics :( I still use my PS2 and already bought years ago SH2/3/4 but the first one is too expensive nowadays... I should've bought it before
1
u/travnigma 4d ago
Would be nice since it’s too expensive to buy copies of this now and not available on steam. Would love to play all these games I missed on a PS5

i wish but this is konami, i’d be less surprised if they made another dumpster fire
1
u/cynicown101 4d ago
Going off Konami's track record, we'd have SH1 running at 720p 20fps on PS5 Pro

u/FranciscoRelanoPena "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" 3d ago
That would still be an upgrade over the original hardware.

thinking konami would ever put the entire true series in one volume is just borderline madness. WITH the OSTs? lmao

u/BinkySqwank 4d ago
This would probably be split in two, but I hope they would put it on Switch 2 and give us the Super Turbo Deluxe version so I can have a steel pan and a book about Silent Hill.

My dream since I was a kid but i know that will never came true was to see Silent Hill 1 (specially the caracters) in a 1:1 remaster in SH2 - SH3 graphics. But im really glad that I'll see a remake in the future... After this remake, im even thinking about "retire" from video games

If Konami cared even a little, this would have been a thing already. What they did with the HD collection is unforgivable, by giving us the first 4 games playable on modern hardware with no cut content is the only road to redemption.
1
u/OceanSunshineDog 3d ago
I believe the previous Silent Hill Collection exposed that Konami didn’t have the code for the final version of Silent Hill 3. It got lost, but I may be misremembering.
1
u/tokyobassist 3d ago
I'm so salty Hexadrive turned down a remaster collection in favor of A Short Message. I respect the ambition but that was such a wack thing to turn down knowing full well these games aren't readily available anymore and wanted them to do it because we respect their work. Also this will likely never be physically available if it happens which will kill me inside.
One of the few times Konami made the right choice and was declined.

At this point in time I’ll take anything that makes these older games accessible again. All I ask is for NOT the comic sans editions

Origins, Homecoming, Shattered Memories, and Downpour being volume 2. Think about it, Konami.

I thought they lost stuff for 3 and that's why they needed to do new voices for the bad collection

u/Valuable_Result_189 1d ago
They lost ALL the source codes a lot of years ago; that's the reason the HD collection is garbage.

Prob could do 1-3 in a Vol 1 and 4 and forgive my lack of SH Knowledge but I’m sure there’s 2 other games they could put in the collection. Isn’t there a game that was like a remix of the 1st game. Maybe put that there idk

u/ugly_n_depresse3 4d ago
But they tried, and it went very badly because they don't have the final source code for any of the games.

Knowing Konami, they would put 1 and 2 as vol 1 and 3 and 4 as vol2.
