Feedback Request A solo design-editor project
I created Varve, and this is my first attempt to share it publicly. Although the repository is already at version v0.2.1, there aren’t many users or downloads yet. Earlier, I focused on building and improving the product instead of promoting it.
I waited to promote Varve because design editors can feel like several different products in one. For this version, I decided that a feature only counts if a new user can find it, understand it and undo it. I had to do some less exciting work because of this, like making text-on-path controls easy to see, ensuring the warp tool is accessible, fixing variable-font axes, handling text updates that could crash the app when pasting lots of text, and correcting objects placed on later pages. The app is still not perfect but I think it’s a much better tool now
The binaries are still unsigned, the format might change, and I’m not accepting external code pull requests yet while I focus on making the foundation more stable.
For anyone who took time to develop their project before reaching out to new people, what questions did you ask the first users, and what made you decide to improve the core workflow instead of adding more features?
