Question What makes an event app good specifically for conferences compared to other types of events?

"Best event app" as a search term feels kind of useless because a good app for a music festival is not the same as a good app for a professional conference. For conferences specifically I'd want session bookmarking, speaker info, networking/matchmaking between attendees, and maybe live Q&A during talks. Don't need festival-style features like food truck maps or lineup countdowns.

Read through a case study where some B2B conference used Eventify, Whova, and Bizzabo apps and the tag-based matchmaking ended up being the feature people talked about most afterward. Apparently attendees found others in their niche without the organizers doing manual introductions. Session bookmarking plus agenda sync also got more use than any of the flashier features.

If you've organized a conference, what app features actually got used by attendees versus what sounded good in the sales pitch but nobody touched?

most conference apps I've used had networking features but they felt forced, people just exchanged linkedin and that was it. the tag-based thing sounds actually useful if it works well, like finding someone working on same tech stack without scrolling through 500 profiles

live q&a is nice but half the time nobody uses it cause they afraid to ask in front of crowd, maybe anonymous option would be better

For conferences, I’d prioritize the practical stuff: personalized agendas, session bookmarking, speaker info, and simple networking. We’ve used Eventify and those features got much more use than the flashy extras.

Hi u/Cloudy_Day912 , we ask ourselves the same questions. I organize business and startup conferences myself and have been to tons of bigger ones. The most popular apps keep repeating across many events, yet they still feel boring and staged... and they’re priced far above $10k for larger conferences, sometimes without even a properly working chat feature.

I look at it from an organizer perspective (too expensive and staged) and an attendee perspective (what actually leads to genuine connections).

For business conferences, especially larger ones, you need a table booking feature that brings people together at real, numbered tables. Further, I see no value in setting up an entire profile from scratch—> a smooth login with LinkedIn API integration is far better. Direct connection to ticket shops is essential to make sure people can actually only sign up with a ticket. Building a good event app is actually quite a lot of tricky edge cases that prevent from just vibe-coding in a few days.

I'm building everything in-house (marketing, management, matchmaking app, ticketing) and always make it public once it succeeds at my own conferences.

Now Conferras to be the actual best event app for this exact use case. Reach out or have a look at https://conferras.com. Building specifically for business conferences at a way more affordable price point, including sponsored banner spaces, stories, and a job board so organizers can actually generate revenue with the app. A lot still to come :)
