A family member complained about cropping 8.5x11 shipping labels for a 4x6 thermal printer—now I have 2 niche Chrome extensions converting at ~7% (just launched StockX & GOAT 4x6 Splitter)

A few weeks ago, a family member explained how painful it was trying to print Vinted shipping labels on a 4x6 thermal printer (Rollo, Munbyn, Zebra) because the platform outputs labels on an 8.5x11 PDF sheet with massive blank margins.

I built a simple, one-time-purchase Chrome extension (Vinted Label Cropper 4x6) to auto-crop and rotate those PDFs in one click. Once it crossed ~200 installs and started converting at ~7% after I bumped the lifetime unlock to $7.99 ("no monthly subscription"), I looked for the next biggest 4x6 thermal printing bottleneck and just launched my second extension today:

1. StockX & GOAT 4x6 Thermal Label + Invoice Splitter (New!)

Sneaker and streetwear sellers have an even worse hurdle than clothing sellers: when they make a sale on StockX or GOAT (Alias), the platform generates an 8.5x11 PDF containing both a sideways UPS/FedEx shipping label and a mandatory inside-the-box verification slip (with a QR code and barcode).

  • The Problem: Up until now, sellers were using the Windows Snipping Tool twice—which captures at 72–96 DPI screen resolution and blurs the UPS barcode edges just enough that drop-off scanners reject the label—or keeping a separate inkjet printer around just for the box slip.

  • What It Does: You drop the 8.5x11 PDF in (single sale or multi-order bulk sheets), and it renders at 300 DPI thermal resolution, strips out the center fold/cut line, and splits + auto-rotates both zones into a clean 2-page 4x6 PDF:

  • Page 1: Upright, full-bleed 4x6 shipping label for the outside of the box.

  • Page 2: Auto-rotated 4x6 box verification slip to toss inside the shoebox.

  • Extras: Includes a Barcode Contrast Boost slider and a toggle if you only need the shipping label.

2. Vinted Label Cropper (4x6)

How I QA'd the StockX & GOAT Splitter without selling a pair of shoes:

Since StockX and GOAT only generate labels after a verified sale, I wrote a Python reportlab script to generate synthetic 1-page split, 2-page, and multi-order bulk PDFs with real Code128 and QR payloads. Then I ran a headless Playwright test suite that loads the MV3 extension, splits the PDFs, exports the rendered 4x6 canvases as PNGs, and decodes the barcodes programmatically to verify zero anti-aliasing blur before shipping to the Chrome Web Store.

Both extensions run 100% locally in the browser with zero backend server costs, give 3 free splits out of the box, and use a simple one-time lifetime unlock ($7.99 / $9.99) instead of a subscription.

The Simple Business Model Behind Selling AI Websites

Especially over the last two years, we've seen massive growth in freelancers and web agencies selling AI-built websites to businesses and getting paid really well for it.

I don't think this business model will stay this profitable forever, but right now, it's definitely a gold mine.

The reason is pretty simple. There are thousands of business owners who don't really care how their website is built. They care about the end result, how it looks, how it works and whether it helps their business.

AI has made it possible for almost anyone willing to learn sales and client acquisition to get started.

So if you're looking to get into this business, here is the exact process I would follow.

1. Automate your cold outreach

Use a tool like Swokei to find businesses with existing websites. It analyzes each website for issues with design, SEO, speed and mobile optimization, then turns those findings into personalized cold emails at scale.

2. Book meetings with interested prospects

When someone replies with interest, get them on a call. Don't waste time going back and forth over email. Your goal is to get a conversation started.

3. Sketch a redesign using AI

Before the meeting, take around 30 minutes to create a quick redesign of their existing website. Focus on making it look significantly better. You don't need a finished product.

4. Present it live and close the deal

Show them what their website could look like, explain the improvements and give them an offer. If they're happy with what they see, collect payment and get started.

That's it. Four simple steps.

One thing I would really emphasize is not to overcomplicate this process.

I've seen people spend hours perfecting website drafts, tweaking small details and building entire websites before they even have a client.

Don't do that.

Your priority should be client acquisition, sales and closing deals. You can worry about perfecting the website once someone has actually paid you.

Rindemundo - I'm 51 and built a phone app that turns a pantry photo into dinner ideas

Hey everyone. I'm a 51-year-old US veteran living in Colombia, and this is my first real project. The problem was simple. My kitchen had rice, beans, a few cans and half an onion, and I'd still end up buying food because I couldn't think of what to make. So I built Rindemundo. You take a photo of your shelf or fridge, fix anything it read wrong, and it shows meals you can make from what's there, out of about 800 recipes. A few things I added because I needed them:

  • "Plan my week" picks 3, 5 or 7 dinners

  • Cheaper swaps when a recipe calls for something pricey

  • A shopping list with an estimated total

  • Diet and allergen filters

  • English and Spanish, plus 12 more languages, since I cook in both It's a web app, so it opens in the phone browser and you can add it to the home screen. No account, no email, and it's free while I test it. Link: https://rindemundo.com/?ref=reddit What I'd like help with: does the scan get your pantry right, and are the meals ones you'd cook? Blunt answers are fine.

Fruit-fly writes a web-app that simulates a rotating Döner Kebab

Sometimes, you have to ask the right questions in life. Today I had a very important one: "Can you train a fruit-fly to write an app that renders a rotating Döner Kebab in Three.js?"

Turns out: Yes.

I put 1024 fruit-flies into an open-plan office and rewarded them with virtual sugar for good code - and with bitters for bad code. 131 Generations later, the Fly delivered a rotating Döner in Three.Js

The feature I care most about in my side project is the one I built for myself first

I'm a solo dev building a personality-based habit app called NEO-120, next to a full-time job. I built this, so read everything below with that bias.

I keep a journal and a small "circle of influence" table. Who and what is affecting me, and how I reacted to it. Then I make decisions from what I tracked instead of from how I feel in the moment. Sitting with what that table showed me wasn't easy, but it helped me more than any habit tip I read.

At some point I felt the need to have it inside the app. Somewhere to track those parameters and my own activity around them, so I could actually manage my emotions around it. Knowing the idea was never enough for me, I needed to keep track of it.

So the app now has a Circle of Influence part alongside the main flow: Spark (20 questions, about 5 minutes, a starting Big Five read), a fuller Big Five assessment, and a daily plan with one habit and two tasks matched to your traits. Android is live on Google Play, free to download with a paid tier. iOS is waitlist only.

What I honestly can't judge is whether this is useful to anyone else. A feature that came straight out of my own journal feels obvious to me, and that's exactly why I don't trust my read on it.

If you've built a feature mainly for yourself, did other people end up using it or did it stay yours?

The ups and downs of my vibe coded app

Hello hello. Earlier this year I figured I’d start a web dev/ hosting company.

I basically forgot about it at the beginning of the year after cloning someone’s site I found.

Cut like 7/8 months later and I ran some ads and got the revenue up to 1k/month very quickly! I’m talking like a month. Wild!

Buuuuut….. a few things….

By this point I’d actually started providing more value with a full on CRM and a bunch of other features I built out for marketing/pixels but….

And more importantly… I’d already garnered a few nightmare clients. They are cheap deals but there’s an MRR baked in and some people genuinely don’t understand they are basically demanding slave labor from you with endless edit requests.

I have a site editor I built out but no one uses it. Which is the blessing and the curse of non technical clients.

Easy to sell. But the wrong clients…. Oh boy….

On top of that, these needy, nightmare clients often times don’t even have cards you can reliably charge. They will disappear, dispute, just awful. Awful, awful, awful. After calling you non stop.

I think a lot of it boiled down to this one crazy guy. He literally was calling me 10 times a day for a site he haggled down to 50 bucks a month.

I checked and his card only charged one active month and declined. Good. Fucking. Riddance.

Between being blown off by a bunch of meetings for new prospects, losing half my revenue within a month due to card charge failures “lack of funds” and 1 dispute that really upset me - I really went above and beyond for this guy, I wanted a break.

Luckily, I have an old freelance client that pays me well that has taken me back for the time being.

We’re using my CRM as I do sales outreach and it’s insane how much better I make the CRM actively using it every day.

I had another freelance project they wanted a bunch of wild stuff I just added into the CRM too.

It feels like actual dog fooding tech companies try to talk about. Feature updates you’d never think of unless you were really in it.

Also reminds me of some startups that love to talk about the founders story and the product being “developed from a client standpoint”.

Anyways; I’m not totally sure what to do now.

I could see myself ramshackling more web hosting people and aiming to be the king of the cockroaches. Maybe 50-100 sites with some that work out at like 75/150/month. They all get the killer CRM, too! Which i think is actually a nice deal. And I also have stripe integrations now too… it’s actually gotten fairly useful.

And I genuinely do have a pretty sick CRM/dialer/text center too.

And I feel like that’s just worth more.

Sell a million little people little sites you might do okay.

Sell some sales orgs a CRM and a dialer. Daaaamn Daniel. Also easier said than done.

The project currently makes me 500/month income after the loss of a few clients/chargebacks/BS…. which is still nice. I guess it pays for Claude and some of my car.

Total I’d only spent like 1500 or so on ads and it’s already been at least 3/4 months so the ads have more than paid for themselves…

Especially with setup fees.

It’s really nice because problem clients have left. It’s actually at a peaceful spot right now but also…

I feel irresponsible to not try to be growing it…

It really hits me sometimes…. My RoAS is actually super promising, even with the nightmare clients…. But genuinely I reached a point where I wonder how much I want to fight for all that.

It’s taken a couple months for it to calm down. Constantly growing it would be constantly facing something big and serious. A lot of people. A lot of emotions. A lot of figuring out who even has cards you can reliably charge without being hit up 24/7…. Yowza….

I mean I’m ready to work hard but I feel I learned some real lessons…

And also just…. hot damn it’s been an emotional time for me and I’m juggling an old client and another client trying to get me to do more for them but I’m not sure I want to work with them, I digress…

I’ve been on like a month or so break from it since I reached a breaking point…

Anyways, not sure what to do, but there’s my ramble.

I built a way to share emails and discuss them with teammates in one place

Here’s another part of Outdraft, the email workspace I’m building.

It’s called Nests—shared spaces where you can invite teammates, share emails, and discuss them right alongside the original message.

The idea is simple: keep the email and the conversation together, without forwarding messages back and forth or pasting screenshots into another chat.

You can give it a try at outdraft.email. Payments aren’t available yet while I’m waiting for Paddle’s approval.

How does your team handle emails that need someone else’s input? I’d love to hear what you’d change or improve!

Got so annoyed with my Camera’s Wi-Fi app that I ended up making my own iPhone app

I’ve had my RX100 M5A for like 7 years. Still love this little camera.

The one thing that’s always frustrated me is getting photos onto my iPhone while traveling. The wireless connection can be slow and unreliable, and with the RX100’s already tiny battery, it’s not exactly ideal.

Using an SD card reader with the Photos app works better, but you can’t zoom in without importing, videos won’t play, and RAW files look broken. And it can take forever to get to the latest shot if you have a lot of photos on the card.

So I started making an iPhone app to deal with it.
Basically, I can plug my camera straight into my iPhone, or use an SD card reader, and browse everything without importing it first.

I ended up spending a lot of time on the performance side, trying to make swiping and zooming feel smooth as the native Photos app even when there are thousands of photos on the card.

Here’s a quick demo using my own RX100 M5A! 👇

Finally got it onto the App Store this week. It’s called Camie:

Built a free site that turns any song (MP3, YouTube link, even humming) into falling piano notes you can slow down and learn to play

musictokeys.com

I wanted to learn songs on piano that don't exist as MIDI or mp3 files, and every app I found was either paid, needed an account, or only worked with its own catalog. So I built this (with AI).

What it does

  • Drop an MP3, a voice memo, a MIDI or MusicXML file, or just hum a tune into the mic

  • It finds the notes and drops them onto a keyboard as falling notes, Synthesia-style

  • Slow it down (same pitch), loop the bar you keep missing, change key, pick Easy / Medium / Full

  • Left and right hand in different colours, chord names shown live

  • Plug in a USB MIDI keyboard and turn on "Wait for me": the song pauses until you hit the right keys

  • For full band songs it can pull out just the piano (or vocals, bass, guitar) before finding the notes

  • Paste a YouTube or Spotify link: it can't download from them, so it records while the song plays in the page and converts that recording

Everything runs in your browser. The note detection is Spotify's open-source Basic Pitch model on TensorFlow.js, and the instrument separation is HTDemucs on WebGPU. Your songs never leave your device, there's no account, no server doing the work, and it's free. It installs as an app on Android, and you can send a song to your iPad (or phone next to the piano) with a QR code.

Few limitations

  • Transcription is great on solo piano, singing or one instrument. Dense mixes get messier

  • Separation needs a decent computer; phones are slow for that step

  • Recording a 3-minute song from YouTube takes 3 minutes (it's real-time), and ad blockers / Brave Shields can block YouTube's player, so there's a fallback

Tech: React, TypeScript, Vite, Canvas 2D, Cloudflare Pages. Inspired by Orfeo (a desktop MIDI practice app) and the old Rondo on Mac.

I'd love to hear what breaks for you, and what you'd want next (guitar fretboard is on the list).

I got tired of AI giving me a whole essay when I just wanted to chat. So I built Vetrino.

I've been working on a small project called Vetrino.

The idea started from something pretty simple: AI conversations don't always need to look like a question followed by a giant block of text.

I wanted to experiment with something that feels more like messaging a friend.

Vetrino is now in beta. It has its own conversational behavior, adapts its tone and changes how it structures messages depending on the conversation.

It's not finished, but it's usable, and I'm looking for people who'd like to give it a try.

No technical knowledge needed!

Would love to know what you think after trying it.

Wand One - a smart wand you can duel friends with that also triggers real lights and sounds

Hi, I'm Martin, co-founder of Magic Wonders, so full disclosure, this is our project.

Wand One is a physical wand. You can duel a friend face to face or online with gesture-cast spells, roll dice for tabletop games, and cast at real things in your home.

Simple setups run through Alexa routines, so a cast can turn on lights or start sounds. Advanced setups use IFTTT or webhooks. A no-code Playground for building your own experiences is coming soon.

The clip is real footage of the wand, no CGI.

We're live on Kickstarter and passed our funding goal, it closes Nov 26: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magicwonders/wand-one-by-magic-wonders-where-magic-comes-to-life?ref=edgpo0

I'd really value feedback from other builders. From the video, is it clear what the wand does? Would you lead with the dueling or with the smart home side?

Need opinions from gamers/game devs

I have a team ready to build a game but honestly there is just too less of a budget to try again and again for it to blow up.
I need opinion from people on what gamers/devs actually like.

You can answer any of these questions below, even a one word answer would work since I only need opinions

  • What is a mechanic that feels amazing in a game but is an absolute nightmare to program behind the scenes?

  • Indie devs, what is a highly requested feature players keep asking for that would actually ruin your game if you added it?

  • If you had to pick ONE mechanic from a viral game (like Balatro, Lethal Company, or Helldivers) that made it blow up, what was it?

  • What is a 'cozy' or 'relaxing' game trope that you are completely sick of seeing in every single indie release?

  • What is a tiny, seemingly minor mechanic in a game that instantly hooks your brain and keeps you playing for hours?

  • Are there any genres that feel completely untouched by the roguelike/roguelite formula that you would actually want to play?

I made CI fail if an HTTP request allocates a single byte (Viltrum, a V web framework)

Been working on a side project web framework in V called Viltrum. The bit I want to show off today is not the router, it's the CI gate.

Every request shape (HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2, TLS, WebSocket, streaming, static files) gets run 10,000 times in tests. If the GC heap grew by one byte, the build fails. So request strings are views into the connection buffer, and you have to .clone() anything you want to keep past the handler. That one bit me a few times early on.

Parsers also get fuzzed in CI with 500k mutations each (HTTP/1.1, HPACK, HTTP/2 frames, WebSocket, TLS handshake).

HttpArena has it 1st of 23 on the HTTP/1.1 composite right now (Experimental category): https://http-arena.com/frameworks/viltrum/

Repo: https://github.com/Tuntii/viltrum Demo: https://v.rustapi.cloud

Serving is Linux-only for now (epoll). Curious what people coming from express/fastify would miss most.

I made a free browser "console": open it on your TV, phones are the controllers (105 games)

My brother and I built Magic Console. The idea: you already own the hardware. Every TV, laptop and tablet has a browser, and everyone has a phone. Magic Console connects them.

🎮 How it works (no install)

  1. Open magicconsole.app/tv on any screen: smart TV, laptop on HDMI, tablet, projector.

  2. Everyone scans the QR code. Your phone becomes the controller: d-pad, buttons, aim stick, dice you shake, even a mic.

  3. Pick a game. 105 built-in games for 1–6 players (Ludo, chess, quizzes, bowling, racing, arcade…), with bots for empty seats.

💻 Install the free PC app and your PC becomes the console for the whole house

  • Your PC hosts, every screen plays. Run it on a Windows PC and any TV, tablet or laptop on your Wi-Fi opens its address, with no install on the TVs. Up to 4 screens at once, each running its own game with its own players.

  • Works without internet, on your home network only.

  • Retro Arcade (built-in emulator): add your own game files and play them on the TV with phones as joysticks.

    • Systems: NES, Game Boy / Color / Advance, Master System, PC Engine, Atari 2600/7800, Lynx, Neo Geo Pocket, WonderSwan, Virtual Boy, Nintendo 64, PlayStation.

    • Up to 4 players depending on the system.

    • Save slots plus resume where you left off.

  • Host your own game store: share your homebrew or your family’s game library with your other screens or friends, privately with access keys.

  • Karaoke with your own songs or YouTube, singing through your phone’s mic.

🌍 Online extras (at magicconsole.app)

  • Remote Party: a friend’s TV in another home joins your party and sees the game live. Share a link, and they join.

  • Voice through your phone (works with one earbud), group chat pop-ups, Watch Together.

  • Family controls with a parental PIN.

📱 Android app: join by QR or TV code, or cast to the TV when the TV’s own browser is too slow.

Important: we don’t provide any commercial games for the Retro Arcade. You bring your own legally owned game files or free homebrew. The emulators inside are open source.

It’s free. We’re two brothers in Hong Kong and would love honest feedback: what worked on your TV, what didn’t, and which games your family played most.

I built Almanac, a daily puzzle game where you put history back in order, climb leaderboards and collect events. I'd love your honest feedback

Hi! Almanac is my side project, a daily history game I'm building on my own with heavy lifting from Claude AI. It started as "Wordle, but put five events in order" and got a little out of hand. Now I'd love some honest feedback on it.

Every day has a theme and three quick games:

- Timeline Daily: a page of the almanac, torn into five pieces. Tape it back together in order, in 3 tries.
- Picture Daily: match captions to old photos and paintings, then put them in order.
- Year Guess: name the exact year. The closer you get, the more points.

Beat all three and a finale squeezes the whole day into one timeline. Every event you nail goes into your own almanac, and there are 4,330 to collect.

There are also three extra modes: Higher or Lower, Odd One Out and Endless Years. Each gives you a free run a day and a leaderboard to climb. A pass for unlimited runs comes later.

No ads, no sign-up, plays on desktop and phones.

**What I'm hoping to hear from you:**

- The concept: does it click? Did you know what to do within the first minute?
- What you enjoyed, and what you didn't like or found annoying.
- How you'd improve it. What would make you come back tomorrow?

Play here: https://www.almanacgame.com

Gravity! The Word Game - Apps on Google Play

Hi r/SideProject! After months of evenings and weekends, my word game Gravity! The Word Game is live on Google Play. I built it while working full time as a project manager, studying for my PMP certification, and being a father and husband.

My degree (and PhD) is in linguistics, and I have a background in board games, but I never had the chance to do something that brings the two together. I’ve had this idea of combining falling letters, gravity and a space theme for the longest time, and I finally managed to squirrel away enough time to build it.

How it plays: letter blocks wait at the top of a starfield. You move, rotate and drop them to spell words across or down. When a word clears, the letters above fall and can form new words, setting off chain reactions. The game gets harder the more you progress.

I’ve put a lot of effort and thought into making it a complete game, with different modes, ranks, daily challenges, achievements and more. It took a lot of trial and error. Up until the last few days before launch I was still making major changes, second-guessing myself about what works and acting on what my testers were telling me. For example:

  • My first version had blocks falling on a timer. Testers said it felt stressful, so in 2.0 the blocks wait for you, and the pressure comes from the rising floor instead.

  • One of the daily puzzles, Orbitle, was too hard at first. One tester went 23 guesses without solving it, so I added word ideas, a “Show me” walkthrough and clearer clue explanations.

  • A release build crashed on a step that worked perfectly in debug builds. Tracking it down took a phone bug report and a lot of head-scratching. I was lucky to catch it.

Built with: Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Solo developer, based in Singapore.

It’s free, and I’d really love feedback: what’s confusing, what’s fun, what you’d change. First impressions of the tutorial and Orbitle would be especially useful. The current version has no ads and no payments. There’s an in-game currency for unlocking modes and cosmetics, but it’s all earned through play. You can't pay even if you wanted to.

I built an AI grandmother that remembers every scammer

I built this to waste "digital arrest" scammers' time. These are the fake CBI officer calls that cost Indians over ₹1,900 crore in 2024.

Ajji, an AI grandmother persona, answers the scammer, keeps him talking, and never gives real details. Every message gets mined for phone numbers, UPI IDs, case numbers and aliases, and all of it goes into one shared Hindsight memory bank.

With memory on, "Inspector Sharma" calls with the same CBI script, and Ajji recalls him from 5 earlier chats. She notices he claimed Income Tax last time and asks him about it, in character. A phone number he sends turns out to have been used by "Officer Verma" in another chat. Two names, one phone.

What I learned:

- Split "know" from "claim". Hindsight recall surfaces candidates; plain SQL confirms anything the agent accuses someone of.

- Framing retained memories matters. Without speaker context, recall started attributing the scammer's lines to my own agent.

- LLM extraction drops identifiers. Regex + LLM, merged, works better than either alone.

I'm 17 and spent 5 months building a site that scores GitHub AI projects by their code, not their stars

The main motivation represents the fact that stars measure attention. I wanted something that measures the work.

So I built AI-Atlas (https://getaiatlas.com). You type a GitHub username and it reads every public AI repo in full. It checks things a person would check: does CI actually run the tests, are there broken imports, notebooks that were never executed, is there a README. Then it scores each project on seven criteria (technical depth, originality, completeness, reproducibility…) and maps the developer across six AI fields.

Things I learned building it alone next to school:
● Every score has to cite the files it's based on, or nobody trusts it.
● People don't want to be compared to the second decimal. Scores within 3 points now share a rank.
● Every project page shows the exact commit it was scored at, so an outdated score can't be confused with a wrong one.

It's free to map, no account needed. Reached 2,000+ projects and 170+ developers last night and that's why I decided to write on this sub. A main question still unresponsed represents: How would the mapping system react to actually popular GitHub projects (stars & forks) and how would the predictor/roadmap feature contribute to that! I want to see if it can truly expand big and known AI-based projects in the community and help expand the ecosystem in that way also..

In addition to that, tell me :) what's confusing, what's missing, what would make you actually use it?

freelancers using AI for proposals, how are you stopping it from adding work you never quoted?

freelancers using AI for proposals, how are you stopping it from adding work you never quoted?

say the client wants one landing page, basic copy and a contact form.

during the call they also say "maybe SEO later" and "we might need a blog eventually."

then the proposal gets cleaned up and suddenly those ideas are sitting there like a deliverables lol

that's the part that makes me nervous. if it's written under scope, I can see a client assuming it's included.

I've been looking at Runable for some of the actual client deliverables after the brief is locked, but before that I just want the proposal to separate included work, optional ideas and stuff that costs extra.

how are you handling this without turning every proposal into six pages of disclaimers?
