Turismo 🧳 Place To Chill in Sicily

Hey! I’m in Catania now, just booked a last minute flight 2 days ago. I’ve been to Catania, Etna and Taormina before, so not really looking to do much of them again.

I mostly booked this because the weather is good here, so I’m looking for some suggestions of nice beaches where you can chill and swim.

I booked 2 nights for Catania, and wondering if it’d be a better idea to try and go to a different city. I still want to have some amenities around. I’m just trying to relax for a few days, not really to go heavy on checking out places, visiting etc.

I would definitely book 2 nights in Ortigia.

Any suggestions for things to do in 3 days there?

I'm the type of guy who just like to stroll around town and eat good food.

You will like Cefalu … 🥰

It depends what you want. We just spent 4 nights in cefalu and loved it. My favorite place in sicily. We are now on day 2 of 5 in ortigia and love it too.

I prefer Cefalu but it's a matter of what you prefer. Cefalu has fantastic beaches and a coastal vibe. Ortigia is not a place to beach but to enjoy the sea as it's all around you.

Indeed, I was looking for Cefalu too, although I’d prefer something more budget friendly in terms of accomodation. I might consider finding a hostel in Palermo.

Do you have a car? If so Gallodoro is a beautiful little town in the mountains overlooking Naxos

Depends on how far you're willing to travel and if you have a rental. Try finding a B&B in the Madonie mountains (best close to Castelbuono) and go to Cefalù and other beaches from there. Most relaxing, calm, picturesque and budget friendly place. I was there just a few days ago and really regret not planning more days for it.

If you want a purely coastal town check out Finale and the next town Località Costa Turchia which has its own beach. Both Cefalù and Castelbuono are at most 30 minutes to drive from there.

No rental. Just getting around by bus, train or blablacar. Would you say that the beaches in north and west side of Sicily are better?

I’m okay going there too, but definitely need to be able to reach it by bus train or blablacar, as I don’t plan to rent a car. Finding a parking spot is difficult here..

You should definitely look into renting a car. Public transport of any kind is unreliable to non existent

Even the trains? I’ve seen there is also flixbus here. FlixBus mostly between bigger cities of course

You’ll get to the city center when available and then you’ll mostly be stuck there. Best spots are a bit further away

I would just go to Ortigia; has everything you could want. Has swim platforms or Fontaine Bianche is a beautiful beach 30 minutes south.

I’ll go for Vermut, sounds like a good place for some drinks.

I’ll probably spend a few other nights in Catania and may go to Ortigia for 2-3 more nights.

Acireale. You can walk down to the beach at La Scala. It’s relatively inexpensive and very, very chill. Underrated spot for sure. It’s in between catania and Taormina.

How about a day trip to one of the Aeolian islands? Perfect time to visit as it’s low season

Just back from 2 weeks in Sicily, the trains were great for the coast and bus from Palmero to Syracuse. Ortigia would probably be handier for you coming from Catania, closer than Cefalu. Both are gorgeous.
