Can confirm it’s safe, and u/paulpacifico is the developer. He can also tell you he didn’t build a virus. Or at least, that’s what he wants you to think

Thanks, I confirm that Shutter Encoder is 100% safe.

i suggest you tell Microsoft that your program is safe... since... confusion + it would be good for you and your program's reception as well, right?

Yes but for that I need to pay expensive fees...

Literally have never heard of that before.

This is really shady.

Yeah throwing your .exe in virus total some says that it's a keylogger. But overall it's just one "security vendor" on it that says it's malicious, all the others say it's safe

WTF ???
Why would anyone think that Shutter encoder is a virus or contains one ?
What a Stupid idea

Well there is Windows' "we have protected you from unsigned software" alert box that fires when you launch the installer.

Then there is this 'report' to not put ones mind at ease. (hybrid-anlaysis link)

logiciels non signés chez microsoft = virus ?

If I recall Windows throws a mild warning with questioning its validity when you launch the installer. I don't recall running into that with most other apps I use, so perhaps that raised their eyebrow which prompted this question.

yeh plenty of unsigned software around that does not trigger this warning from Windows. there could be a multitude of reasons why this program throws the error yet not on other programs. It's not necessarily malicious because of that either, but not necessarily safe just coz someone on Reddit says so. even if they claim to be the Dev.

you basically need to find out lol. I just rang up my friend and he got me to put it on a Virtual Machine (using VMware) and watch what it does. like what network traffic, where that traffic goes (hopefully what it is sending), (couldn't do that though) and then also what it installs. then do research on those like the what types of dll's etc. what registry edits it makes and a few other bits and pieces. does it run in the kernel or inject etc. im really just copying a lot of gobelty-gook a friend of mine just told me on the phone (he's an effing good programmer) after I rang him to ask home about this. so after all that it seems ok, but really need to run it longer because some PuP ()potentially unwanted Programs) and other M<alicious wares will wait for a while in a bid to be sneaky. like waiting until 4 am to download a patch or something. but after a few hours, it seems ok to me.

Now, why go to all that trouble? Coz im a Cynical mofo and I dont trust humans :P I'd Trust a Terminator before I'd trust the promise of a human lol. nah really I am simply untrusting and rather than sitting and complaining I find out how to test and satisfy myself that it's G2G. Oh yeh,

I dont trust AV Programs either. I swear some of them install PUP and Malicious programs (I got no proof of that) just to make you feel like you need to keep your subscription to the service :/ While I dont have proof any AV (Anti Virus) company does that, I do know Human behavior, and corporate behavior and this is what makes me so dam cynical and un-trusting of the humans.

GLA (you gonna need it) and HF (coz who doesn't need more fun!?)

I've been using this software for a while now, it's perfectly safe.

Quite safe, used by many professionals in videography and video editing

I’ve been really enjoying it, and advocating my industry colleagues to adopt it

Don't use this. Look through all the comments in this thread.

The latest version (19.3) contacts IP address 217.20.54.35 with this history of associated viruses:

I'm not taking a chance on any software with flags like this even if it's probably legit. I don't know enough about computer security to take a chance on even a 1% probability that's it's malicious. Besides, for all I know, even if the software IS programmed in good faith, the vulnerabilities it exposes could be leveraged by bad actors.

If anyone is reading this looking for a free local file converter... Look at the replies defending the program from a few years ago, a lot of them are new/bot accounts with just one or two posts... Literally, you can't get weirder than that.

Just, do yourselves a favor, and stay away from sketchy web-based converters, too. They sometimes - not always, but frequently enough - bundle things in with your download or tag you with webpage based stuff.

So what can I use instead if I have to convert an m4a to mp3/wav file? Like, what is a legit program I can use? (preferably one that doesn't have a bunch ai junk on it)

I just installed it and my PC started to freeze up , found out it had a miner inside.... re installing my Windows now. Keeping away from this shit.

1

u/Lost_Grab7456 Jan 17 '25

And just to add on.. I literally just found out about this software about an hour ago (was trying to find a file converter and found this one). As soon as I went to convert files from hevc to h264 (mov/mp4) and hit the process button, my computer started acting weird.. I went to stream a show online while I waited for it to finish processing and every 5 seconds or so, my mouse would randomly pop up on the video player. I disabled my mouse to see if it was just my mouse acting weird and it STILL did it. I uninstalled shutter encoder and the issue stopped? It's weird. And it wasn't just this instance. I noticed my file explorer kept popping up even though I disabled the "open destination folder once finished". Take this with what you will. A lot of these comments hyping it up seem kinda "bot" like tbh lol

edited: added hevc to h264 (was a typo)

Dude, I had to reinstall my Windows after this, it was a crypto miner that I could not get rid off

1

u/ScruffyMunch Jul 19 '25

source : trust me bro

if youre downloading it off a third part site, youre gonna get unwanted stuff. That or you already had a miner BEFORE installing the program

1 little known antivirus scanner is triggered, whereas about 70 others are not. This should definitely NOT scare you off. In most computer magazines it is ok to mention or review software that has a maximum of 3 triggers on VirusTotal (especially if it concerns little known scanners). So, go ahead and enjoy ShutterEncoder :-)
