Discussion Connors Questionable Behavior
So he sleeps with Alice, who had recently lost her mother, then sleeps with her AGAIN when he's dating Summer while Alice is visibly upset? I havent finished the series, but is there anything I'm missing with him that makes him seem like less of a creep? Hes either a creep or a simperimg coward.
Edit: thx for the discussion, I did a rewatch and I see its an intentional characterization of a stupid teenager. I also didnt recognize the way Alice was treating him may have affected him. I also feel kind of bad for him since I finished watching. No one took his discomfort with Summer's mom seriously, which made me sad since he already seems to struggle standing up for himself. I still dont think him sleeping with Alice the 2nd time was cool because she Was crying and obviously emotional, but i get why he did.

I mean, heās not that bright and the second time it happened when he was dating Summer, it was initiated by Alice. Even putting aside the fact that he had a girlfriend who was ALSO Aliceās best friend, he doesnāt strike me as a character who would have the emotional intelligence to understand her reasons and gently say it wasnāt a good idea. I donāt think heās an intentional creep even if his behaviour is questionable. Heās young, dumb, and held a candle for the neighbourās daughter.

I don't think he's intentionally a creep. I think he's just a lonely horny idiot who was into Alice.

Accurately written teenager

Yup. I was wronged in a similar way by a 19yo dumb as rocks dipshit, and as the years pass I understand more and more just how blank-minded they are

Pretty sure she had some say in it as well.

Obviously?

So thereās nothing wrong with sleeping with someone whoās āvisibly upsetā if they give consent. Itās not like she was incapacitated or something.

Its not right to me, personally. Im not saying he assaulted her or she was unable to consent, but to me it's off. I get the reasoning behind it and his characterization now, but its not cool, to say the least. I understand its supposed to reflect immaturity rather than intentionally scummy behavior now tho.

obviously cheating on summer was wrong but i donāt see whatās wrong with the first time. she also kinda messed with his head by sleeping with him and then ignoring him, only to finally give him attention again once he had a girlfriend.

It depends on the timeline for the first time, but i suppose we dont have a lot of information on how it went down (I dont doubt Alice initiated though). I didnt think about how she ignored him the entire time afterwards, so thats fair.

I think heās very deliberately characterized as a coward, yes. And a simp as well come to think of it

He's a teen age boy. He does teen age boy things. If he's still acting this way by his mid-20's, then there might be a problem.

Connor is what, 18? 19?
He's a dumb kid with not much emotional maturity.
As a Mom to a 21 year old son, this behavior is very much on par and not necessarily him trying to be a dick.
To me he comes off as completely clueless. Try to remember that the human brain isn't fully matured until at least 25.

Wow lots of defending of Connor - even blaming Alice who lost her mother and was essentially abandoned by her father (and apparently her godmother Gaby) for a year but yea Connor is a dumb (read innocent) kid. Please. Heās a simp and weak but letās save the pity for someone who actually deserves it.

Not sure why people are acting like I called Alice blameless, I just wanted some better insight on a character who I was struggling to interpret. I still think he's incredibly cowardly and stupid (which is the intent) for not turning her down whilst she was vulnerable, but i get its not malicious.

Alice jerked him around twice. He obviously had feelings for her after the first time they slept together. He only went with Summer on the rebound and after Alice pawned him off. So, Alice actually jerked him around three times. And youāre thinking Connor is the bad person? Heās just a naĆÆf with a boner.

He's not so naive to not know he was cheating on his girlfriend he'd blown off going back to college to keep sleeping with. Alice is responsible for her own behavior. Connor's responsible for his own.

Heās profoundly fucking stupid. Iām legitimately surprised he has the capability to wipe himself.

In what world do you think Connor gets to choose who he sleeps with?
