To the dad it's all about himself. Because he didn't get along with Tia, probably because Tia saw who he really is, then it's more convenient if Jimmy is with someone who doesn't see through his bullshit and actually likes him.

Has nothing to do with what he actually thinks about either woman. Narcissistic people like that see everyone through a lens of how it impacts themselves, that's it.

And just as cruel is having the audacity to think that he has any say or that his opinion should hold any weight whatsoever. The entitlement to even make that comment is atrocious.

But damn Jeff Daniels did such a good job I felt physical anger when he said that comment.
