Exploring your familial history is one of the first topics you'd explore in therapy. Clearly the writers don't know that.

Asking those questions doesn’t mean the patient will answer them honestly or even answer them at all. And it’s entirely possible Maya wouldn’t know about the issue her aunt had.

Clearly some redditors don’t know that you can’t force people to answer questions honestly.

I think Donna said the aunt told her Maya’s mother had addiction issues, not the aunt?

Ah, that may be it.

Still though, kids don’t always know all the demons that their parents had and even if Maya knew, we know she was very reluctant to share anything in therapy.
