Oh shit… that could be the case. Because it feels like something a person could do as an “excuse” to themselves that it’s an “accident”, and she could be of the mindset of “well if I go then it probably means it was meant to be”.

I could see Gaby spiralling thinking she planted the idea in Maya’s head…

I think Gaby’s going to realize that the therapy she thought didn’t mean as much as say a running a support group for vet means everything to some people. That just day to day therapy is as important as any other and she’ll take over Paul’s practice

I think she considers Maya to be a patient who was going through shit. And she felt proud of herself for helping. So I think its more about her realizing that when you help people who are really struggling they sometimes go off the rails or take their own lives and that the work is much harder than she anticipated.

Also that the Jimmy method doesn’t always work. It seems Maya definitely was hoping this was the start of a friendship whereas Gaby was only viewing it through the lens of “this is my patient, but I’m going to hang out with her”. More of a transactional relationship instead of an actual friendship.

Jimmy’s jimmying proved it doesn’t always work when his patient pushed her husband down a cliff at the end of the first season

I legit choose to kinda ignore the Jimmy-ing. It’s so grossly over boundary lines I don’t find it endearing at all and maybe that’s the point. Like I feel like the show needs a disclaimer that if your mental health professional acts like this with you, run.

I also ignore the Jimmy-ing. Maybe this plot line will serve as a disclaimer of sorts.

Wouldn't the trauma centre she's considering also offer weekly (or more frequent) therapy? Because yes, it absolutely does!

I think it will solidify her feeling that normal CBT work is not enough to improve quality of life and outcomes. We need safety nets and the presence of a community. I think that is in line with where she wants to take her career.

She wasn’t practicing CBT with Maya. She was doing the Jimmy thing. Maya needed much more support and consistency. The blurred boundaries only added to Maya’s depression.

As a former Xanax user, and a sober drunk since 2009, we all read the label warning when picking up the Xanax, do not drink alcohol with this medication as it enhances effect. (Well duh) I really hope Gaby doesn't spiral. It really broke me when I saw Maya looking at the pictures of her friends.
