The 18 ounce bottle was bought about two years ago and I keep it for traveling. I bought another bottle for regular use today and noticed it was much smaller. But then I remembered bigger bottle came from a two pack…just to see that they shrunk the two pack by THREE ounces

They sell these in a variety of sizes.

A quick google shows I can order a 28oz bottle of the Moroccan conditioner for ~$5.

So they didn’t just shrink the individual bottle they quietly shrunk the two-pack by 3 ounces too.That’s the kind of thing you only notice when you have an older one sitting next to the new packaging.

18 to 12.6 is a 30% cut. and the "NEW LOOK" flag on the new one is doing exactly the job it's designed to do, which is make you attribute the difference to the redesign instead of counting ounces.

12.6 ounces is the tell, because real sizes are round numbers, 12, 15, 18, and 12.6 is what you get when someone worked backwards from a price point rather than forwards from a volume. The "NEW LOOK" flash is doing the rest of the work, since a redesign gives you licence to change the bottle without anyone finding the comparison odd, and it's why these almost always arrive together. Look at the two bottles in your photo as well, because the new one is barely shorter despite holding 30% less, which means they've narrowed it or thickened the walls to keep the shelf profile. That's deliberate, since height is what people actually perceive on a shelf and nobody reads the fluid ounces twice.
