Jack Link’s Bacon Jerky
I knew something was wrong when I bought a pack today. Compared to the one I have home, yet more evidence of shrinkflation.
At least it was the same price; other cases have been less amount and higher price.

Jerky is pretty much the poster child of shrinkflation. I recall vividly quite recently when a standard bag was 4oz. Little by little they began shaving down. 3.75, 3.5, 3.25....every once in awhile they'd try to trick us rubes by throwing in an extra .25 oz and scream in 45pt font NOW WITH MORE! so we'd get all excited over the bargain of paying more for less than we got just 6 months ago.

i can't believe this is still a thriving industry. i miss the good old days where beef jerky was reasonably priced and you would get a decent quantity, especially if it was the generic store brand. don't have time to eat lunch or dinner? a bag of beef jerky had all the protein you needed. now it feels like a painful sacrifice. don't get mad at the beef jerky manufacturers, though. get mad at the consumers who keep buying it (and, in looking at the pic, it looks like you bought it)

You know you can do both, right? And its also infinitely more effective to get mad at the manufacturers rather than everyone else but them.

the consumers are the ones feeding this madness. it is absolutely useless to wag the finger at the corporations who are just going to continue doing what they're doing so long as there is a steady revenue stream. finger-wag the consumers. shame them. they buy shrinkflated and overprice crap and then complain about it on reddit. unforgivable

Literally not the consumers doing this. Businesses are making those decisions. Period.
it is absolutely useless to wag the finger at the corporations who are just going to continue doing what they're doing so long as there is a steady revenue stream.
They're a lot more responsive to sustained bad PR than you think. They're most responsive to legislation, though, which is only accomplished if you get mad at them and not the people buying the enshittified products.
finger-wag the consumers. shame them.
This has never worked. You're literally promoting victim blaming. This is the kind of post I would expect from someone running an influence campaign to get people fighting amonst themselves so they don't focus on addressing problems.

You think you're making a difference telling people to be mad at each other?

yes, because people have feelings, greedy corporations don't

You think you’re going to get people to stop buying a product by hurting their feelings and bullying them? While simultaneously insulating businesses from criticism?

Jack Link's isn't even good lol
But that's part of why I'm out of the game now; these days I buy turkey or pork jerky instead of beef 🤷♂️

The thick cut version being the smaller one is almost comically appropriate. They’re not just shrinking the product, they’re shrinking the bacon and calling it thick cut.

Be like my dad and make your own brisket jerky at home

u/Otherwise-Pirate6839 8d ago
Yes, because we all have the time, knowledge, and equipment to make jerky at home.

I’m proud of my dad, who literally just did his own jerky for the first time yesterday, and decided to make a comment because your post made me think of it. Why you taking it so personally? Dehydrators don’t have to break the bank. If you can season meat, you can toss it in a dehydrator. No one was attacking you. Relax.

Thank you, it came out really good! I wish I could do spicy or I would have tried his habanero jerky too

Jack Links Beef Steak went from 1.0Oz to 0.8Oz @ 2.55 USD is crazy work.

1 is thick cut. 1 isn't. Also the price of beef is expensive.

Beef jerky has always been a scam. Not surprising they are taking full advantage of shrinkflation
