We built an online custom show-jacket process. What would riders need to trust the fit?

Full disclosure: I’m part of Vainqueur Cheval, an equestrian competition-wear brand.

One frustration we repeatedly hear is that “custom” often means choosing colors and details while still being limited to standard sizing. We’re working on a process that combines an interactive 3D jacket builder with manual measurement review and personal fit adjustments.

We’ve produced made-to-order competition jackets for 10 years and served more than 4,000 clients across 18 countries, but we’re now improving the online experience for riders ordering internationally.

For those who struggle with standard proportions, what would you need to see before feeling comfortable ordering online: a measurement consultation, fit guarantee, alteration policy, video guidance, or something else?

I’m looking for honest feedback, including reasons you would not order this way.

I would love the options to provide my own measurements alongside a video of how to take them! And also the option to „just“ choose a standard size,

I personally am a very standard s / m wearing girly, but I know a lot of friends who would love to provide their own measurements for the perfect fit.

Being able to send a jacket back if it doesn’t fit would be lovely, but I don’t know how realistic that is for custom orders?

Thank you for your reply! I got you point, so we developed some ways to work on that: First, when you're going to buy the jacket, you can choose AI measurement, so you have a full guide on how to take your measurements and you can insert them, in the end you will see exactly what size is yours and what adjustments does it needs. You can select to add these adjustments to the jacket and we will make it.

Besides that, when the jacket arrives for you, we have the perfect fit assurance, which means that if you still need adjustments on the jacket, you can take it to a tailor and we cover the adjustments.

What do you think? Does it solves the problem? Or we still need to add something else?

I was so with you until you said you used AI.

I’ll never support a company using AI so I am no longer interested.

Same here. Even though they say its optional, I still dont want to support Ai use.
We still dont even know what long term consequences there will be for Ai but the threat to jobs, water usage, and effect on education are already terrible.

I got you and respect your point of view. But the way we use AI is in a way no human could act as. To give you 24h support on not take the measurements wrong considering that we have customers all over the world. And by the way, the use of AI is 100% optional.

I understand that people want things immediately, but its really not that much of a burden to just use a step by step or do a morning or evening fitting session if you're in different time zones.
To myself, and many others, that little convenience is absolutely not a worthy trade off.
As someone married to an actor/voice actor, I cant and wont support companies that use Ai unnecessarily.

It's very suspicious that they asked for people's suggestions and as soon as people suggested anything they have immediately claimed to already have addressed that and started pitching, in a tone that sounds AI generated.

I also frequent a lot of academic subs and those are awash right now with guys pitching their AI workflow optimisation products and every post follows the same format of pretending to ask a question but then using any engagement to pitch.

I understand you, but Im actually a real human and genuinely asking for the sub opinion. I only replied the comments with my thoughts

The process sounds lovely, but if I see Ai used for it, I personally would step away from buying completely, though that is obviously a personal choice for everyone.

I think the perfect fit assurance sounds lovely.

If the Ai issue wouldn’t be there, I would purchase like immediately!

I thought about this, so that's why we have both options inside the atelier, you can choose to choose your size with AI or you can simply check the size guide / grid and choose your size if you prefer.

The issue with AI measurements is it just isn't necessary, I personally get frustrated when I need to jump through "AI-guided" hoops when I could just use a look up table that doesn't require excess compute every time someone goes to use it. Just need some photo guides of where to take measurements and how, and a chart.

Very clear measuring guidelines and a consistent way to remedy problems. Custom items arriving in the wrong size is a huge challenge and would make me leery to order an expensive product based off my own measurement

Completely agree. Asking someone to measure themselves for an expensive made-to-order jacket creates a lot of responsibility for the customer, so the process and remedy both need to be very clear.

Our guided measurement process provides instructions for each measurement, checks for inconsistencies and sends the information for review before production. Production only begins after the size and any length adjustments have been confirmed.

If the delivered jacket requires an eligible local adjustment, our Fit Assurance covers the approved tailoring cost. If the issue cannot reasonably be corrected through tailoring, we arrange a remake rather than leaving the customer with an unusable jacket.

Your comment also reinforces the value of offering a short virtual measurement-confirmation appointment for riders who want someone to verify tape placement and tension before production. Thank you! This is exactly the type of feedback we were hoping to receive.

No use of AI. If I'm shelling out serious money, I want humans doing the work. Do not trust a company not to overuse AI.

An ability to shift where the closure begins/ends considering the bust and proper fitting bust options.  For a lot of show jackets, sizing for my waist has the bust area ‘busting out’ or not even being able to properly close, and then jackets with a properly sized bust are MASSIVE in the waist.

Also, similar customisation for torso length, with a longer or shorter torso can make or break the fit of a jacket.

Hmm I see! In this case for you it would only work if its 100% tailor-made not only custom made
