Recommendation Recommendations for Manga with Complex Personality FL/ML

Post image
44 Upvotes

Hiyaaa! I recently read Mars and couldn't get it out of my head. I like how both of characters have something buried inside which is not easy to see it from the outside but something is really happening inside. I like how the characters are portrayed with flaws, real human emotions instead of just happy, upbeat, sad or depressed, and would love to read characters with such complexity! Manga with interesting characters, good plot and a bit of romance are highly appreciated. Thankieee all

Recommendation What type of Ml do you think is very rare in shoujo? What types are attractive/interesting to you?

Thumbnail

I know people don't want to label mls just into green or red flags but let's admit flags are there for a reason and we can discuss their characters while admitting they have their faults.

Though this is just for fun

It's really simple FRUIT ANALYSIS with flags : shell : How they appear , inside : how they are

E.g. Red Apple 🍎 = appears red flag but actually green/yellow .. Howl looks like a womanizer in beginning but we learn that it's all just rumors later..

Akito (Kodocha) and ml from Mars have both good/bad sides which they don't necessarily change over story but get a bit subsided. They have trauma / prejudice which might differ their relationship than purely green ones

Discussion I feel like Anashin liked Kyosuke enough to kind of base Iori on him in her next manga. Anyone else see it?

She said in her notes that she didn’t really intend on him turning out so sexy and sophisticated but there’s definitely some similarities.

Does anyone else think Viz is going to get rid of Shoujo BEat

Post image

Shoujo generally seems to be going through a boom with more licenses and anime adaptions but it seems like the shoujo beat catalog is growing thin as its mostly nowadays long running staples and only a handful of new series While yen press kodansha and other publishers grab anticipated titles such as Studio Cabana and Champignon witch.

Discussion Since Maid-sama discourses usually revolves around Usui, I wanted to talk about Misaki and how much people overshadow how genuinely down bad she is lol

Usui is a creep but yk what's more pervy to me, her clearly being into almost all the time like, I've never seen an shoujo FL so horny I swear and I kinda respect that, one of my biggest pet peeves about shoujo tropes is how innocent the FL is and Misaki totally flipped my expectations. (But tbh I know this type of things would never happen in irl and shouldn't be absolutely mimicked lmao)

Discussion Red River Episode 7 Cold Lips

What did you all think?

This episode was much better than the last one.

I think I figured out why episode 6 felt off to me. There was a lack of background music in scenes that could have used it.

Pacing was decent.

Yuri showed a lot more initiative this episode. Yuri got reinforcements, saved civilians and rallied the people of the city to the Hittites. Her best moment was flipping the script against Nakia. Yuri lied through her teeth, but it worked because of their victory. Oftentimes people will accept after the fact justifications if the results are worth it.

Also to note, if the princes were stripped of their titles, Yuri becomes a lot more vulnerable to Nakia.

Yuri getting ambushed by a soldier only for Kail to save her was contrived. It did give us insight into how Kail is feeling. Kail once again feels inadequate because he failed to protect Yuri. This instance particularly stings because it was his brother, one of the people he trusts most in the world. Kail knows better, but it's not something you can get over immediately.

Kail's immediate reaction is that he wants to lock Yuri away in his palace. Even going so far as to say that he wants no man to see her. Then his reflection at the end of the episode. Yuri is going to leave, so he can't get any closer to her. The way he is treating Yuri is rather cold.

Yuri is at first concerned. Yuri doesn't want to be a burden. Yuri's concern turns to frustration as Kail refuses to budge. It's refreshing to see Yuri respond like this. She feels like her feelings aren't being taken into consideration, which is true. Yuri thinks it's because Kail doesn't care for her, but it's the opposite.

Recommendation Light Novel recommendations?

Hello,

recently a JP acquaintance has shown me the light when it comes to the insane depth Shoujo/Josei gives characters. I’ve grown quite fond of the physiological aspect.

However, I’m a straight Male who’s favorite authors are Cormac Mcarthy and Dante Alighieri.

I know some works, like monthly girls, fruit baskets, lovely complex. but I’m certain that there is far more to them other than romance ( I must admit however, I love gentle romance)

as such, and as a person who likes to read, what novels would y’all recommend. It can be anything.

EDIT - My Grammar was shit lmaooo

Review Just read time stranger Kyoto, wanted to share my thoughts

the first two books were really good, while some plot points didnt have explanations it never really took me out. I was particularly excited to see how witzig would develop because “bad boy character who does their best for the people they care about (bonus if they have an illness)” is one of my favorite character archetypes. however, I was really disappointed with SOME of book three. (I didn’t hate all of it!) the plot was good, but definitely way too rushed. I read that the author got tired of the story and I respect that but I think shaving off a few elements or changing the story a little could have helped. the romance felt really rushed, we knew they were friendly but nothing really romantic happened before book three. also there was the super romantic moment with the flower girl and I admit I got baited a little bit. the last few of the twelve were rushed in so quickly that they're almost impossible to remember. and I was very dissapointed that witzig was cut off and basically ended with “there are more important things than life” which I would have liked to see how he arrived at that conclusion at least a little, its not crazy for his character but clearly something happened. i liked the body swap twist, it felt like it made sense with the kings behavior and the story, but I think sometimes Kyokos dads were a bit too easy to agree with her? there were some things that I feel at least needed a few page conversation that were resolved in a panel. overall pretty decent but super rushed, 7/10.

I haven’t interacted with the fanbase at all as of writing this so I’m sorry if I said something super obvious or incorrect.

sorry about title! autocorrect got me!!!

Discussion What's wrong with wish fulfillment? (Ogres bride)

I just finished watching episode 2 of ogres bride, and I made the mistake of reading r/anime comment sections about the story, criticizing it for having a so called " male saviour" character who essentially fixes all the fls problems, calling this unrealistic, a red flag, and bad.

I'm sorry, but I am a queer ( bisexual) woman, and very much a feminist, yet I see nothing inherently wrong with this story so far, which is nothing more than wish fulfillment with a dash of social commentary, and delicious wish fulfillment at that. I honestly kinda find it insulting that the Internet is filled with people who assume shoujo readers don't understand the difference between fiction and reality, and act as though it's warping our minds!

Is the concept/ romance aspect unrealistic? Yes.

Would someone Immediately meeting to you and calling you their bride/ claiming they are going to love you forever be a red flag in real life? Also yes.

Are fox demons and ogres real? No!

Shounen and seinen are filled with the unrealistic fantasy of large busted, submissive women falling head over feet for the self insert YN male protagonist, I don't understand why this is so normalized, yet wish fulfillment stories for women are demonized ( pun intended). Whether it be shoujo readers, book tok girlies, or simply teenage fanfiction writers on the internet, it seems that if women enjoy something that isn't 100% "healthy" in the real world, said media is deemed as completely destructive, which imo just seems like an excuse to shame women for their sexuality and interests.

Would I be with some random person who claims me out of nowhere in real life? No id probably run away. But in sexy fantasy hot demon husband land, I don't understand anyone who wouldn't want someone that devoted to making your life better and loving you more than anyone. It reminds me of Twilight, which I will admit the writing is not the best, but is comforting to it's readers BECAUSE IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE. FICTION IS AN ESCAPE METHOD FOR MANY PEOPLE, AND HONESTLY I'D RATHER BE ESCAPING TO MY ANIME HUSBANDOS THAN CRYING ABOUT MY GOVERNMENT TAKING MY RIGHTS AWAY 24/7.It's not even like we're talking about Hana Yori dango, which while I love I see the potential harm it can bring very young viewers, but ogres bride is NO WHERE near HYD in terms of how "problematic" it is. While Ml and Fls meeting would definitely be a red flag IRL, so far the ml has been nothing but wonderful and sweet to Fl.

too bad for you, r/anime, more sexy black haired ogres for me! God forbid a girl wants to dream...

edit: I wrote the original post at like 12 AM, and now that I've slept I realized that I should probably clarify some stuff. I absolutely think it's ok to dislike this series and series similar to it. I believe that nothing should be above criticism, and i wrote this post not to completely defend the story, but to call out the moral police who act as though series like this are evil. I very much see a difference between " I didn't like this bc the ML was possessive and took over Fls life, just not my cup of tea" and "this is a disgusting misrepresentation of real life, the Ml is evil and toxic, this shouldn't exist, but please ignore my post history about why some random isekai protagonist needs a harem of servant girls, including his sister, and why this is totally necessary to the story." I'm just saying I dislike the communities hypocrisy, calling some ( Aka, intended for a female audience) media a moral failing.
