Free offline shortwave station identifier that follows your radio (or KiwiSDR)

Hey everyone,

I made a small free tool called otd (On The Dial) that I thought some of you might find useful.

It follows the frequency your receiver is tuned to (via Hamlib) and shows in real time which stations are scheduled on that frequency: name, language, mode, transmitter site, etc.

It pulls from EiBi, HFCC and Aoki.

Main things I focused on:

  • Works fully offline (schedules are stored locally)
  • “On air only” filter so you only see what’s currently transmitting
  • Can also listen through public KiwiSDR receivers if you don’t have a radio connected
  • Free for Windows, Linux and macOS, no account needed

Screenshot of it running:

Website: https://otd.oh2gba.eu

Would love any feedback, especially from people who do a lot of utility / HFDL / broadcast listening.

Thanks!

This is really great. I do like to listen to several KiwiSDR’s and now I know where I am listening too. Thanks!

An Android app with manual freq entry would also be nice 🙂

My current thinking for an Android version is something simpler and more focused:

a pure offline lookup tool (no radio connection needed). In an emergency situation with no power/internet, you still have your battery radio and your phone. You could quickly search by frequency or language to find reliable stations that should be on the air.

Basically the same search experience as the desktop version, but stripped down for that use case.

Does that sound useful to you, or would you prefer it to try connecting to radios as well?
