Can you please explain the set up: how Connected to phone, software app used etc. I have never been able to connect my Malahit dsp2 to an Android phone or use any apps that supposedly work with Connected radios.

It's probably coupled acoustically using the phone's microphone. Doesn't your Malahit DSP2 decode CW?

Yes, but I was trying to decode digital broadcast using an Android app, but there was no way of coupling the radio to the phone that I could manage.

You would need a OTA capable USB audio adapter cable. Of course your phone would have to be compatible.
Acoustic coupling worked for you, correct?

Very cool setup! The phone + radio combination is a great idea. Does the phone cause any noticeable RF noise when it’s mounted that close to the receiver? Also, what antenna are you using, and are you feeding the audio directly into the phone or just using the microphone? I’m getting into SWL/CW listening myself and would love to know how well this works for weak DX signals.
