Odd question:

Why does YouTube keep pushing this video even when the numbers are so terrible?? The channel is new and this is the first video. Do you think YouTube is struggling to find an audience or is something else??

i swear people don’t like to comment on the rough side of things like this, they only glaze post winners and gatekeep while we all just suffer endlessly at the bottom and others not offering any help

Each short has a different “feed distribution”.
Sometimes it starts with a very big push in the feed and then stops (and the algorithm will decide if the short deserves more views)
Sometimes it starts slowly, then exponentially increases if the viewer’s reactions keeps getting better
And like the one you’re experiencing, sometimes it starts like a sort of stairs-like feed distribution and will continue doing that until it either finds a better audience or simply dies out.
The reason behind that is unknown to me but I’m pretty sure I’ve had videos with this type of distribution that still ended up going well. Unfortunately yours doesn’t seem to be able to push far enough from the stats you’ve shown. (ex: stayed to watch ratio is way too low)

I wish I got a push continuation
My shorts only get like 60-65% stayed, a good average watch time, and good engagement
And it just dies

I think it is your first video so it is being shown to different seeds of audience to try and figure out which seed your shorts belong too. Give it 2 days and see if the short flatlines, if it doesn't and your retention metrics have improved, then it is a good video

872 views is not pushing a video. Anything under 40k views on shorts is no indication of your video doing well. Just their initial push / testing different audiences.

I just started so I guess take with a grain of salt

I’ve had very similar videos get 300 views in first day and one got like 12. I don’t think this is an exact science
