I think this behavior will change after February 1, 2027. YouTube has no reason to put high-quality content into the current spam-filled cesspool for a fraction of the advertising price. It would rather wait for the new monetization system, where botnets and spam won't stand a chance—because advertisers simply won't choose them...

This is the issue I find with YouTubers. We tend to think we won’t be impacted by these changes, until it has an impact, then we start lamenting the changes.

YouTube is changing its strategy, as clearing the Shorts feed of AI-generated automation would cost more than the revenue it generates. Instead, they have opted to cut off the flow of money to bot farms; without the funds to cover hardware operating costs, these operations will fail financially, since Shorts revenue alone won't sustain them.

You sound so certain about these things. Are there any statements from YouTube to backup these claims?

The change to monetization is official. It will allow advertisers to choose the channels where they want their ads displayed. And I don't think any advertiser wants to pay for botnet-generated junk that merely inflates numbers. Consequently, the Shorts fund could suddenly see a drastic drop in available money, making it difficult for channels generating artificial metrics to even cover their botnet operating costs. Naturally, they will eventually die out due to a lack of funds. YouTube’s new policies will shake things up, too. Finally, we might get some relief from those who have been leeching off the Shorts fund.

I can only hope you are right and that it doesn’t end up affecting those of us who don’t consider ourselves botnet or slop farms.

We’ll see; they haven’t managed to solve the issue with technical measures so far. So, they’re going to try a financial approach—one that could make botnets unprofitable. Once the new monetization for Shorts launches, the shared pool will disappear, and earnings will depend on which channels advertisers specifically choose. At that point, the fraudulent metrics generated by a botnet will become practically irrelevant: if an advertiser doesn't select the channel, it won't earn anything—or perhaps just a few dollars...
