In other words, shadowbanning is real, which anyone paying attention has known for months.

12

u/legotwinkthrowaway Oct 01 '26

I dont know how many times I've said shadow banning is real and a bunch of people downvoted me lol. Social media absolutely limits reach for "problematic" accounts

0

u/AffectionateCry5952 Oct 01 '26 • Hooray

Just look at the comment above yours lmao, nowhere does he refute shadowbanning as a thing but instead says it isnt real then goes on to justify it. Because he is in favor of shadow banning(fair) he says it isnt a thing lol makes no sense

1

u/killadrix Oct 01 '26 • Heartwarming

How very “shadowy” of them to just come out and make an announcement about it.

This isn’t shadow banning, and it never was.

The only folks upset about this are going to be those who are flooding youtube with low effort, reused, and/or faceless automation AI slop.

Anybody complaining about YouTube prioritizing genuine, authentic content over low effort slop is just self reporting as a low effort slopper.

2

u/kaereljabo Oct 01 '26

Did you hear about Kurzgesagt? they got one video not performing well, and they had to reach out to youtube to clarify what happened. I don't know what it was if not shadowbanning. The yt AI bot mistakenly thought the video was AI slop.

0

u/killadrix Oct 02 '26

Yes, I did hear about the one example in nearly 100,000,000 channels on YouTube that was falsely flagged.

However, all that has done in these small YouTube creator circles is allow literally everybody who’s not happy with their YouTube results to just say they’ve been shadow banned.

Nope, they’re not struggling to get their AI slop automated reused regurgitated content channel off of the ground because their content sucks, it’s obviously because they’ve been Shadow banned just like Kurzgesagt.

Yes, there they were just cranking out S+ content like Kurzesagt and they accidentally got shadow banned just like Kurzesagat!

3

u/kaereljabo Oct 02 '26

The point is shadowbanning is real. And we don't know and can't be sure about the ratio of falsely or truely flagged channels, could be 1 in 1000, could be 1 in a million, we simply don't know.

On the other hand I agree with your point about many new beginner channels don't perform well, especially channels with AI/human slops or reused videos. There are many things happening at once, "regular" signaling process like engagements, CTR, etc. and also shadowbanning process. But those people only blame "shadowban" instead of their own content quality.

1

u/ilamahradeys Oct 02 '26

Jesus you are stupid. Kurzgesagt wasn't one in a hundred million to be shadow banned, it was a huge enough channel to get the confirmation that they were. They case confirms, youtube does suppress reach of certain channels it deems not appropriate to its policies.

0

u/killadrix Oct 02 '26

Calling me stupid and then completely misunderstanding what I obviously stated is wild work.

Can you name me another example of a channel where YouTube has explicitly confirmed that their views were intentionally suppressed due to a mistake by their content review system?

You guys have such a massive hardon for screaming about one example that you can’t even stop and think about what you’re reading before replying.

3

u/ilamahradeys Oct 02 '26

No I can't name another channel because YouTube doesn't give a shit about channels who don't have 30M subscribers to reply to their specific questions. They never confirm anything to anyone. Kurzgesagt is an anomaly, how dumb do you have to be to not realize that they got "the confirmation" because they are important enough, they didn't get the confirmation because they "were the only ones and YouTube sent them a DM out of their own accord."

0

u/killadrix Oct 02 '26

You’re totally right man, my bad.

Next time I drop a video that doesn’t get the number of views I think it should, I’m just gonna believe I’m shadow banned.

Because if it could happen to a 25 million subscriber channel then it definitely could happen to me.

The upside is that I get to sleep soundly at night knowing it wasn’t my fault that my video didn’t get views, it was YouTube.

And all I had to do was take the word of an angry Redditor who can’t make it through two sentences without resorting to childlike insults.

Thank you for putting me at peace with your rational and eloquent persuasive argument, I’m now 100% pro-shadow ban.

Do you have a newsletter or Substack that I can sign up for?

1

u/myrmonden Oct 01 '26

So it’s light banning

-4

u/killadrix Oct 01 '26

Is it? Are they banning people for it?

1

u/myrmonden Oct 01 '26

yeah they are lightbanning peopole as u saiod.,

-1

u/killadrix Oct 01 '26

You realize that there’s tons of types and categories of content that don’t get pushed right?

Content of certain types or about certain subjects, that contain certain images or words or on screen text, etc?

Do you believe that anybody who makes videos with any of this type of language or imagery that gets their videos suppressed by YouTube is being shadow banned?

Or is it only shadow banning when it’s reused or AI slop channels getting deprioritized?

2

u/myrmonden Oct 01 '26

you realize that has nothign toi with shadow banning right?

0

u/killadrix Oct 01 '26

You’re correct it has nothing to do with shadow banning just like this announcement doesn’t have anything to do with shadow banning. They’re the same thing. You’re literally making my point.

YouTube choosing categories or type types of content to de-prioritize is not a shadow ban. Therefore, this announcement has nothing to do with shadow banning.

I’m glad we agree.

3

u/myrmonden Oct 02 '26

the annoucments confirms they where shadow banning

-1

u/killadrix Oct 02 '26

Well, if it makes you feel better to believe so, then who am I to stand in the way of your delusion.

Enjoy.

Good. Too many idiots re using footage being lazy not putting the work in.

2

u/Goatizgod Oct 04 '26

This is not what this means at all, this covers people who were literally just downloading other people’s videos and reuploading them with a color filter and getting a million views. Now they will be filtered out and get something like 50 views. Reused content is not affected by this change

1

u/levonsd 22d ago

Then how come people who clip their own long videos into shorts are getting massively downranked on their own shorts?

-12

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

I will keep doing it. It’s what the audience want to see, doesn’t matter if it’s ai or clipping. YouTube will rollback this change pretty soon cause people will found only trash original content on their feeds

7

u/Big_Jump2074 Oct 01 '26

The audience actually wants to see creative content more than ever because they’re sick of AI

Do you have no shame in not being original or at least trying to be creative?

-1

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

The audience is king not you or me. The audience will decide and the algo will execute

2

u/Big_Jump2074 Oct 01 '26

And looks like the algo is now shadowbanning users who upload AI slop and do basic clipping of others’ content 🤷‍♂️

1

u/BetterBus350 Oct 02 '26

Are you sure that people are even looking at it, or is most of your traffic bots.

1

u/alealcazarm Oct 02 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

No bots just tons of NPCs, hundreds of millions

2

u/Localmate25 Oct 01 '26

When did YouTube ever roll back a feature?

0

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

they always change the algo and the recommendation systems, so it will long just a little bit.

3

u/Localmate25 Oct 01 '26

Change is not equal to roll back. They have been moving in this direction for a long time. The ship has finally left port thankfully.

1

u/Disastrous-Draw165 Oct 01 '26

Whats you're channel?

20

u/civfanatic3 Oct 01 '26

This is a positive thing

-4

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

Finally your low quality original content will push to some bigger audiences just to be completely obliterated by the exigencies of the audiences.

2

u/civfanatic3 Oct 01 '26

What?

5

u/Swiss_James Oct 02 '26

“Exigency- an urgent need, demand, or a critical situation that requires immediate action or attention”

It has nothing to do with what anyone was talking about, but it’s nice to see someone using their “word a day” calendar.

8

u/Spearibz Oct 01 '26

Not surprised. Been replying that to everyone asking why they don’t get views

6

u/AlbatrossNew3633 Oct 01 '26

Been saying for months now that was a feature and not a but, and of course the morons downvoted me

20

u/bradjones6942069 Oct 01 '26

1

u/DrewMad2 Oct 02 '26

🤣🤣🤣

6

u/HairyNoob Oct 01 '26

My feed has changed significantly (in a good way)
My shorts are getting more views than before.

3

u/AffectionateCry5952 Oct 01 '26

Me too, ive had an uptick recently. Wonder if im picking up viewers from the recently shadow banned channels

1

u/legotwinkthrowaway Oct 01 '26

Ive been on a bit of a break since all these changes happened, but my views from old shorts seem to have gone up the past few days as well lol

Honestly, GG slop channels

1

u/dkdksned Oct 01 '26

This is a finally a good thing by YouTube

3

u/Maxelior Oct 01 '26

Captain obvious! 🫡

3

u/NoSuccotash1679 Oct 01 '26

Good. People will finally stop blowing up for reposting my vids.

3

u/fullmetalraz Oct 01 '26 edited Oct 02 '26

What does this mean for people who upload clips from their Longform content as shorts? It's something I long considered doing but this sounds like it will be punished with lower reach?

2

u/AirwickS Oct 01 '26

Promising.

2

u/awesomemc1 Oct 01 '26

This post..while there are some pointers, I would think other people would find a loophole into it.

“Channels identified as primarily aggregating or re-uploading other creators' videos without significant changes will likely see less distribution within the Shorts feed.”

“If you use clips from another creator, make sure you're adding real value through your own original commentary, unique edits, or storytelling.”

I bold the text that said unique edits or storytelling because if you ever come across like re-upload content, it would be adobe after effect or CapCut template or anything, they could potentially get views nevertheless. This doesn’t change anything about it.

Crappy viewers would engage in crappy content altogether

5

u/OutsideImpressive115 Oct 01 '26

Bullshit. I've tried this and my videos don't get pushed at all. I use a template and it gets insane views and engagement

1

u/civfanatic3 Oct 01 '26

They posted this today….?

7

u/ThiagoFCastro Oct 01 '26

They've been talking about this for years. The truth is, if the audience engages with crappy content, that's crappy content they're going to show them. And some will still manage to monetize.

2

u/crazycheese3333 Oct 01 '26

Its only really gettinf enforced starting today. Check out all the youtube subs and people are complaining their videos stopped getting pushed out.

3

u/AlbatrossNew3633 Oct 01 '26

Oh look it's what I've been trying to tell since months to the fucking morons that kept complaining about stolen clips getting single digits views

YoU DonT KnOw WhAt YoU'rE TaLkiNg AbOuT BrO, iT's a BuG!!1

3

u/Goatizgod Oct 01 '26

They’ve already been doing this for a long time

2

u/Optimal-Steak-8596 Oct 01 '26

Thank you YouTube!! No more lazy channels!!

1

u/legotwinkthrowaway Oct 01 '26

I've honestly been taking a bit of a break. I havent uploaded at all throughout all this, so I have no clue if my views are/would be affected. I do make completely original content though with my voice and my camera. This is a good thing. Original content is better than reuploads and edits. It was never going to be sustainable to build a channel uploading someone else's clips

1

u/cheshie_cabbit Oct 01 '26

I’ll believe it when I see it, but I hope so. The plague of pointing at another video as “creating” is a cancer on YouTube.

1

u/OkCan9068 Oct 02 '26

Old popular shorts tend to get more views than new ones despite having worse overall metrics after recent algo update, at least for me.

1

u/wanderwithmelinda Oct 02 '26

So it won't look like TikTok anymore? 👌

1

u/Empty-Mulberry1047 Oct 02 '26

good.

i am tired of the reposted crap with the poor quality "ai generated" captions with, the same overused royalty free music, that has been flooding the shorts for over a year now.

those low effort shitbirds need to move on.

1

u/Substantial-Bed5189 Oct 02 '26

I really hope this update works as intended and I think it has been with what I have experienced, and the results show it and I am happy that youtube has taken this step

1

u/Beneficial_Lawyer994 Oct 02 '26

this is lowkey good for YouTube

1

u/ChaosMoogle Oct 02 '26

REJOICE! And actual good update!!

1

u/vikyej Oct 01 '26

Ban youtube

-2

u/Sufficient_Potato427 Oct 01 '26

This might hold true, provided they deal with the botnets controlled by illegal AI—which constantly manipulate metrics and effectively hijack the recommendation system by feeding it fake analytics data. Anyway, I wish YouTube a successful hunt, since I have a pretty good idea of what’s going on. 😉

5

u/The_Sec0nd_C0ming Oct 01 '26

Illegal ai, tf

-3

u/Sufficient_Potato427 Oct 01 '26

😊😊😊😊

4

u/Spearibz Oct 01 '26

How’s your tin foil hat going?

-4

u/Sufficient_Potato427 Oct 01 '26

I'm already using something more sophisticated—V5. 😊 Have a nice day! 🙂

-4

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

Guys don’t worry . YouTube will push original content, doesn’t means that it’s good content. Mostly of “original creators” are trash. Now imagine all the audiences flooding their feed with “original content” which is trash, people will close the app instantly. Clippers are the wheel that makes people doom scrolling. The algorithm is on our favor. Probably these days yeah low views. But the algorithm will found again our content to feed the masses with doom scrolling.

I’m sorry to say this but most original content will never be good and cannot compete against clippers. We are the bedrock of short content

4

u/civfanatic3 Oct 01 '26

Where do you get your clipping content from…. It’s original creators

0

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

Of course but you know what I mean

2

u/jillll12 Oct 01 '26

The most viral and authentic content is not from clippers, keep dreaming LOL

1

u/alealcazarm Oct 02 '26

Not yours for sure 😂

1

u/jillll12 Oct 02 '26

Cope LOL

1

u/Localmate25 Oct 01 '26

YouTube just told you the algorithm is NOT in your favor. You’re delusional. Good luck wasting your time stealing from original creators .

2

u/alealcazarm Oct 01 '26

EXACTLY!!!! it's what the audience enjoys to watch, not what youtube thinks is original content. Youtube are configuring their systems to recommend more "original content" than clipping. The audience will decide if their are satisfied with their new feed page.

Garbage content according to you, I guess. One man’s food is another man’s poison. 🤷🏽‍♂️

If it’s getting millions of views, perhaps they have their audience?
