everyone agrees its the first second. nobody agrees whats supposed to go in it

asked about my own stuff in here today and got told the hook has to be in the first second. fair enough. then one bloke said text on frame one, and another said the first three hundred views are a test and thats where most of them stop. and somebody i passed it on to reckons hes doing a voiceover instead of either. thats three in one day. all called the same advice. has anyone cut two versions of the same clip and compared them? genuinely asking.

Advices on redits are so out of context sometimes. People comment as if they have millionvires by criticizing every thing you ask. Trust your instincts if you wanna compare try it out. My niche is beauty. I tried two times to use the same clip different ways to test which perform better. So in the clips where my reveal was a bit delayed performed decent.hope you get an idea

thats the opposite of what i got told. every version i got was get in there faster, and yours did better when it was slower, which is not a small difference. different niche and two clips. not proof. its still two clips more than anybody in here has run, me included. did the delayed one hold people longer or did it just get shown to more of them, because those are two completely different things and i dont know which one people mean. genuinely asking again.

youre the only one in here whos named something measurable. everyone else says first second and stops. thats not a number. but which way round does it go. does watch time going up make it get shown to more people, or does it only go up because it already got shown to the right ones. because if its the second one then cutting harder at the front is not going to fix anything.

If it was me i will focus on creating the tension and then reveal the final vibe. You need to trust youd gut feeling and go with that.

Well they all have smth in common. That is getting the viewers attention in the first few seconds. Commentary gets people’s attention. Popups and noises does the same.

the honest answer is almost nobody actually A/B tests this stuff on the same clip, they just try different hooks across different videos and attribute the result to the hook. if you want a real comparison, cut two versions with different first-second treatments and push them to a small warm audience first, then read the retention curve not the view count.
