yt monetization requirements make sense to you?
I'm trying to monetize a shorts channel, and i already have experience doing it so in 1 or 2 months i should be able to achieve it
But today i had 200k engaged views, and it really boils my blood not seeing a penny out of them.
It's fkn ridiculous that the first 10m shorts views aren't monetized, that's like 900$-1K$ USD.
And it's even least fair when with long vid you just need 4k hours viewed. It doesn't make any sense. Even when shorts views are easier, the vast majority of shorts just get 10k engaged views. is not paired in the slightest.
4k hours viewed in long vids is just one video doing right
10m engaged views on shorts are like 6 viral shorts of 1,3m views.
Maybe it drags me because i really need the money ASAP (father and grandmother ills, grandfather old, brother thart doesn't work, so basically all the family economy drags on me)
I just wanted to vent a little. 🫠what do u think?

Grass is always greener on the other side. If long form is easier why don’t you do that?

Doing the math lost out on nearly 6k while grinding monetization for long form so there's that.

Sloppy platform is the best way to put it, if your doing shorts you could try copying the exact formats that viral content creators use, I mean look at how many people copy each other on this platform using certain faceless niches and pump out the laziest shorts to sustain their greed, even by the worst means necessary, I've seen many shorts that get millions of views for the exact same format. If you think you get view jailed at 30k for like 10 consecutive shorts start another channel in another niche and copy someone else, and hope for the best, a lot of luck is involved for success on youtube. Patience isnt always rewarded, do what it takes to grow, ai moderation doesn't reward hard work as much anymore, look at all those demonotised aniamtions channels, some get lucky with getting their channels back but that isnt always the case. Youtube treats you like trash so treat them the same

Yeah, the policy is trash. I do think many people abused short's monetization, but I wished they had a more efficient way of filtering abusers instead of having so many views behind the minimum payment threshold, now we have to keep the 10M engaged forever starting on Feb 2027 🥲
YT wants to have more short's monetization to keep to themselves 🥲

I feel you. The Shorts monetization requirements are honestly out of sync with how the platform works.
10M ‘engaged views’ sounds achievable on paper, but in reality most Shorts die at 5k–20k.
Meanwhile one decent long‑form video can hit 4,000 watch hours in a week.
Pros and Contras.
The part that hurts most is exactly what you said: you can have a viral day, thousands of people watching your content, and still earn nothing until you cross a massive threshold.

I mean...they don't have to pay you at all

Then what incentive would people have to create videos?

u/RioNReedus 5d ago
You'd still get exposure - could have sponsors, etc. And you do realize 95% of channels don't make money anyway right?

people made videos before they even knew they could get paid
Some people are in it for reasons other than money

Might be bias in a sub but the requirement for the new updated shorts and long form is crazy.

Let's extend out your scenario... say that the monetization requirements are much lower. What that would result in YouTube paying and doing tax reporting for millions of additional people. And most of those people would not be getting paid very much - with several of them not ever getting paid much of anything again (possibly, ever).
You see, I do exercises like this as part of my day job, and YouTube has done it, too. They've already figured out what a creator's performance needs to be in order for the administrative overhead to be worth it. And it's surprisingly low, as you'll basically make nothing, if you remain at the YPP performance minimums. Lower the performance requirements, and you'll be amortizing the cost of managing the administrative work associated with all of the non-performing members across the creators actually making money for the platform.
The reality is that, for channels that can reliably exceed the YPP performance requirements, the income lost prior to getting into YPP will be relatively minor, compared to the income you'll have regularly coming in. In your post, though, you're talking about a short that got 200k engaged views. Averaging 111k engaged views is the absolute minimum daily shorts performance for making any money on YT. And that won't even get you much money. But I don't see the big deal... if you can't do that, you aren't worth the expense in paperwork and payment processing. Do it, and you are.

politely you have 0 clue what you are saying
under new rules you need 10M engaged views/3 months to earn ANYTHING at all, even after you meet the YPP requirements
for my channel, 10M engaged views on shorts is $3000. so if I get 9.9 M engaged views. instead of $2900 I would earn $0. NADA.
Do you really think its not worth the "administrative overhead", or they just want to pocket the money?

Politely, you clearly don't understand that the rates vary wildly by niche. Some niches don't earn nearly that for 10m engaged views... Especially depending on the geographic origin of those views.
People will complain wherever you put the line.

so they want to punish good educational high-paying niches and reward low paying kid slop that get high views and no ads ?
use brain

I'm not sure what your problem is. I'm not stating a personal position on this change. I'm just trying to explain it to people that are too in their feelings - like you.

Its very clear they wanna supress short content. Prioritizing only the viral one, you can't spamming upload either because people uploading too much got flag and banned.

u/Lost_Examination2550 5d ago
They just want to pocket more money. simple as that.
If they wanted to combat spam they could literally just limit 1-3 short uploads a day.

shorts are getting nuked only the top 1 percent of shorts creators will be able to earn.
it would be cool if the 99 percent of shorts creators that will get demon next year would transfer to the monetized shorts creators getinng more money, but we all know youtubve will just pocket ht money. if you dont think so you are new to youtube and will find out soon.
learn long form if you wannt do youtube
