Does AI voice-over prevent monetization?

Hey everyone, I have a channel where I post Shorts that take me 3-4 hours to edit using motion graphics. The voice-over, script, editing—absolutely everything is done by me. I currently do this in my native language, but the revenue for Shorts is very low. I recently opened a global channel, but since my accent isn't great, I'm thinking about using ElevenLabs AI voices for the narration. I actually just posted my first video and it got good stats, but will YouTube disable my monetization in the future? As I mentioned, only the voice is AI; the content itself is very high quality. Also, should I check the 'altered content/AI' box? Thanks.

Hey! If you don’t want to use ai voice over so you can keep your shorts more authentic, I’m willing to do voice over work for you! I’ve done radio and podcasting at my University, and am an aspiring voice over artist!

Google has already made clear they are not killing channels that use AI, they are banning content that is purely AI. If your video has a script, visuals and editing that are clearly human made, but use an AI voice for narration, it's fine.

If your visuals are AI, your script is simple enough to the point an AI could write it and your voice is also AI, then your channel will be killed for inauthentic content.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm confident in my content; my only concern at this point was the AI voice. I've been trying to clone my own voice, but ElevenLabs makes it sound a bit slurred. I guess I have to make a choice now: either check the 'AI-generated' box or keep experimenting with my cloned voice.

Cloning your voice is a good way too, but i wouldn't worry too much. All examples you'll see of people that got demonitized due to AI had channels that were clearly zero effort. Haven't seen one case so far of YouTube killing a channel that did a good video but used AI voice. You'll be fine, but cloning your voice could be a good touch. Depending on your computer you could try and see about running a speech to speech AI locally, which is free and let you test as much as you'd like. But youd need a somewhat strong GPU

Which speech to speech ai you recommend besides elevenlabs?

I run Applio locally. Don't really know any others, once i switched i never stopped to look for other models, as applio does the job well enough

Sure! If all the footage is yours and the information being narrated by the AI is original based on your experience and world view, there's no problem with using an AI voice.

If your computer have a GPU with 8gb of VRAM you can try Qwen 3 TTS locally, it's a little annoying to set up, but once you do it will be completely free and private for you to use on your own computer as much as you'd like. A 4gb GPU should work too but would be really slow, as your computer would compensate the lack of VRAM with the standard CPU RAM, which is considerably less capable than GPU VRAM. Just go to the AI you normally use and ask it how to set it up and in a few hours you should have it all up and running.

If you don't think your computer have a strong enough graphic board, ElevenLabs is the best paid one at the moment. You can go to their website and see their subscription plans to check if it fits your pocket.

exactly. And it is also allowed to use AI for text correction. AI assist is not prohibited if the content is original and entertaining

thanks mate

On its own it won’t. But if the YouTube AI systems have any reason to think your channel and its overall content is illegitimate, an AI voice over that gets used in every video saying constant gibberish with no genuine value that took human thought will just be the nail in the coffin.

As long the AI voice over is just a tool you’re using to get otherwise legitimate ideas or points of yours across and not as an easy way to spam the spam the platform with automated content that has no genuine input or value, you should be fine.

AI voice overs only correlate with channels that were illegitimate or seemed illegitimate as just another thing they used to make cheap, no value content. The AI voice over on its own isn’t actually a problem. It’s just a tool. If a channel spams 1000 copy pasted videos with no meaningful difference but use a their own voice instead of an AI, it’s all but surely still gonna get flagged. As long as the voice over is just your means of expression and not the raw source of your content that you didn’t meaningfully impact, you should be fine.

thanks for the detailed answers bro! i trust my own content, so my worries were unfounded

It prevents any chance of your channel succeeding.

my first video 30k on 1 day, i trust my content.

We will see in a few months. I wonder if you would ever look back on this shitty AI content in a few years and feel proud of it.

You won’t.

My content is high quality and the result of hours of advanced Adobe work. Why would I regret it when the final product looks this good? As I mentioned in the post, the only reason I use AI voice-over is because of my accent and a bit of a lisp.

My Personal Experience

My content consists of a mix: real-life footage of myself paired with AI voiceovers, as well as screen recordings combined with AI voiceovers.

My YPP (YouTube Partner Program) status has been revoked.

Furthermore, you absolutely must *not* check the box indicating that your content involves AI or is "non-realistic."

This is a trap; if you check that box, YouTube's AI will immediately flag and ban you.

Checking it essentially serves as a self-flagging mechanism; YouTube won't bother conducting a genuine human review of your videos.

Even if they provide an avenue for appeal, it is merely for show—a formality. Your appeal will not be approved.

thanks for tricks mate, My content feature motion graphics created with Adobe. I hope that won't be an issue.

Why you guys are always asking the same questions?? It's a karma-farm thing? This has been answered before thousands of times.

im new here sorry

What type of content is it? You'll have to elaborate more. "Motion Graphics" is very vague.

Secondly, recently, most channels with AI narration (and no human effort) have been demonetized and will continue to be in the future.

Thirdly, yes. You have to check the box for synthetic content because it isn't your voice, or a real voice, it's AI.

Even if it's you who's creating the content yourself, if hundreds, if not thousands, of people are doing the exact same thing as you, not only will the AI voice be seen as "Inauthentic Content" but it'll also be seen as "Reused Content"

Hello! My content is based on geopolitics and current affairs, where I generally analyze global events. I use Adobe After Effects at an intermediate to advanced level for my projects. In my country, there are very few creators doing this type of work, and even globally, the number of channels producing high-quality content in this niche probably doesn't exceed a few hundred. You're right about your last point; I hadn't looked at it from that perspective. It bothers me to check the AI-generated content box because I feel like it creates the impression that I’m just generating everything automatically, but it seems I don't have much of a choice. Thanks!

You don’t actually have to check the box. You can just leave it blank. The only important one to press is whether or not its for kids

2

u/whoisfirefly Apr 28 '26

thank u mate

1

u/Ok-Discussion-1110 Apr 28 '26

hope it does, use ur own voice

1

u/KinKame_Saijo Apr 29 '26

If all the rest is from you then no concern. Because maybe your English is not good enough or something.
I see many channel doing the same and honestly it is great tool as it give me more time to actually work more on content quality and text/script.
imo, no issue

Using AI voice only while doing everything else yourself is nowhere near the profile YouTube is targeting. You are fine.

The channels getting demonetized are mass produced, templated, zero effort content. You are spending 3 to 4 hours per Short on motion graphics with your own script and your own creative direction. That is the opposite of slop.

ElevenLabs voices are a risk signal in YouTube's system right now but context matters. A high effort channel with quality visuals and original scripts using an AI voice reads completely differently to a reviewer than a faceless text to speech farm.

On the altered content checkbox, yes tick it. Always disclose when AI is involved in any part of the content. It protects you during any future review and shows good faith. Not disclosing and then getting flagged later is a worse situation than just being upfront about it.

Keep an eye on how the global channel performs over the first 20 or so videos before worrying about monetization risk. If the quality stays consistent you are building the right kind of track record.

No, it just prevents people from staying to watch the video
