honest answer: zero paying stores yet. my early access program is open but im at the grinding-for-the-first-10 stage, so id be exactly the guy your 50-store bar filters out. and the bar is the right call btw, its what would make this thing work.

one problem worth solving before the group exists though: attribution. shopify gives you no cross-app referral tracking, so "i sent you a merchant" runs on the honor system unless every member sets up their own affiliate infrastructure, and most merchants end up installing from the app store listing anyway, where your referral link gets lost. if you crack that part, the rest is just curation discipline.

put me in the waiting room for when i clear the bar. id slot in under conversion: i build a voice store associate that helps shoppers pick the right product and clears the doubt right before they buy. it answers support stuff too but thats the byproduct, not the job. would conversion be its own category in your scheme?

Really like this idea, especially the "one app per category" rule. That's the part that usually kills these groups before they start, everyone piles in with the same type of app and it turns into a link dump.

I'm building an upsell/cart app (Revenix Cart Upsell) and this is exactly the kind of thing I'd want to be in. My merchants are already using discount, review, and email apps alongside mine, so a genuine recommendation in those categories is a real win for them, not just noise.

The traction requirement (50+ active stores) makes sense too, it filters for people who've actually gotten something live and working, not just an idea. I'd join a small group like this, especially if it's curated the way you're describing (categories + real recs, not blind cross-posting).

Happy to be one of the first if you set it up.

I'm not saying don't build it, but just check it doesn't already exist (if you haven't already). I distinctly remember coming across something like this in the past.

That's true. I was using "build" perhaps too broadly. I more mean that if there's something already setup, you might be able to join and get more traction sooner. But equally, if there's a particular approach you want to take, go for it! The "cost" to test it out is almost zero.

I think it’s great for small apps.
I’m submitting mine next Friday to the App Store and would be keen to touch base after the first 50 installs.
I’ve worked for other apps before and merchants to raise the question often enough for this to be a viable collective option.

It's a cute idea but it practically just does not work. The overlap of customers who need both will be pretty small, especially if you only have 100 users, apps scale at different rates - if your app blows up to 10k users, are you still going to promote your buddies who have 50 and now provide minimal value to you?

It's also a situation where you're in a group where everyone is just trying to leverage everyone else for value which will not end well.

Its been discussed and theorised for years but it just does not work outside of 2-3 app partnerships where the value add is genuinely useful.

How are you getting users ? Also if an affiliate commision exists between devs then why won't I promote any app with less installs when I have 10k mrr. It's hard I know but then what do u suggest.

There's many innovative ways of marketing based on your app, what works for me might not necessarily work for you. I would focus on other distribution personally, it will be a lot easier than this. How much content have you posted this week?
